Success-the favourable outcome of something attempted
So I have been thinking what would constitute for a succesful game for Drew Stanton Sunday? Just soley a win because lets face it thats asking alot just out of him I think. Can he do it sure why not strange things happen in the NFL. Can we really call for Drews job sunday night if he throws for 200 yards 2 TDs and 2 Interceptions ? Sure we CAN but I don't think thats really fair. Do we expect Drew to be able to win this game? I would hope so every player in the NFL should be expected to be able to win games. I know alot of fans of the Lions are on diffrent sides of Stanton theres always the MSU haters that can never like him. Theres the group that expected him to be the saviour with the tootlage of Mike Martz and will never hold him accountable for anything ever. Then theres the just play him crowd who seem the most level headed he's a second round pick just play his ass already. Theres those that just want him gone and those that want him to get a new deal based on nothing. Hell there is still a crowd that want him to be are starting QB.
So putting personal feeling, Expectations of the past, and Loyalty behind here are the facts. Drew Stanton is the 3rd string QB for the Detroit Lions. His starting reciver is Calvin ( Megatron) Johnson. He threw is first regular season TD only a few weeks ago. He was a Mi**en pick of the second round which many were shocked at. His starting running back will be Maurice Morris and the Defense will likely be missing KVB. He's had almost 2 weeks to prepare. So what would you consider a good game for Drew Stanton vs Chicago?
Heres my opinion - We don't have a good enough team right now to simply "manage" a game. Morris needs to run but I doubt he will be to effective. Stanton just has to play his game take the run when he can throw the short ball. He has to put the offense in oppertunitys to score and limit his turnovers. The true way Stanton can win this game is on Defense. The D has to play to there full potential and Drew has to take what scores he can get and help keep the defense fresh. Success for Drew Stanton will be just getting the ball to the playmakers (Calvin) and not turning it over in the process. Not yards or even TDs if he can put the ball in the right players hands it will be up to them take the offense to endzone.
Good Luck Drew ! I'm pulling for you..remember were all in this together.
