A possible number 2
We all want a new number 2 receiver as the "eraser" for Megatron. People haven't exactly agreed on how yet. The FO is proceeding though, as Donte Stallworth is coming to Detroit for a workout.
the Lions are the "unnamed'' team that will give former Browns receiver Donte Stallworth a workout.

Maybe he will sign, maybe he won't. Sometimes all it takes is a new place to start fresh, although Stallworth has had plenty of new places. Comments?

ehh….maybe as a #3. I don’t see him doing much. Don’t expect a 70-80 catch 1000+ yd season out of him. Better then Bryant Johnson? Maybe, probably. Remember he’s had a year off football. Just don’t get over hyped is all.
Not sure...
….if he is better the Bryant….he hasnt played football in over a year and the season before that he did nothing.

I think Stallworth offers more upside than Bryant, somewhat
BJ has consistently had 1-4 TD’s per season, and 35-46 rec’s per season (never more, never less), and has a career ypr of 12.5. He had one year (2006) where he had 740 yards, but otherwise his yards/season have always been between 417 and 546.
Stallworth had 8 TD’s as a rookie and 7 TD’s in 2005. His best two seasons in catches and yardate (58-767 and 60-945) are both better than BJ’s single best season. His career ypr is 14.8 (better than BJ’s 12.5).
You’re right that Stallworth’s performance really dropped in 2008. He missed four games at the beginning of the season. I don’t remember, but I’m guessing he was battling injuries since that season was so far below the rest of his career.
So now we have TWO former first-round receivers whose performance never quite lived up to their talent
I’d actually feel good about signing Stallworth—maybe he and Bryant Johnson can challenge each other for playing time and make each other better.
But I’m still hoping to draft a WR at #34, or a RB, if they are the BPA.
Brandon LaFell [formerly] of LSU may fall to Detroit out of the first round.
I really hate using the #34 pick to take a WR……..but if he is the BPA………we will probably take him.
LaFell WR or Dwyer RB or Graham DE or K. Wilson CB or Odrick DT [if we take Berry at #2] ?Which of these guys would you take?
Among those, and this is just my opinion, I’d rank them
Jahvid Best (ok, I’m adding this one, but I think he’s a super-fast, “eraser” threat who will be on the board in the 2nd)
J.Odrick (I think he goes in the first though)
B.LaFell
K.Wilson
B.Graham
What I’d really be happy with is if Damian Williams is still there at #34, but I don’t know if he will be.
I guess I wouldnt be against Stallworth.....
…..1 year 2 mil deal is all id give though….he has to prove himself.

I would love..
to have wilson drop too us in the 2nd if not than i would like to see us take graham or iupati. idc how much the wr or rb are hyped we cannot use our #34 on one of them. I think we could take one in the third, but not the second. if we get stallworth id rather see us take a rb their and a wr later… possibly barnes as a 5th.
"idc how much the wr or rb are hyped we cannot use our #34 on one of them."
I’ve said before, we want to make sure we get the right person there, not necessarily lock into a particular position. The mistakes I’ve seen made in the NFL are ‘Hey, we have to draft a running back here,’ Or ‘We have to draft an offensive line or a quarterback.’ I think a better philosophy is to let your hand play out. Try to get the right player, not necessarily the right position.
I think the important thing is finding the right person…I don’t think you tie yourself into positions
-Jim Schwartz (emphasis added)
It would be very un-Schwartzian to go into the draft with the mindset that “We can’t draft a ________ at #34, we’re only allowed to draft ______, ______, and ______ positions.”
The right player—the best player available when the Lions are on the clock at #34 might be a guard, it might be a running back, it might be a cornerback, it might be a receiver.
Whoever it is, they’re going to draft the guy they think is the most talented, as long as they believe he fits our team. They’re not going to lock into a particular position (e.g. “we have to draft a CB or DE here, not a RB or WR”).
+ Infinity
I hate hearing that certain positions can only be picked at certain times. It sickens me.

I'd give him a shot
I’ve seen it before in my own life…sometimes you have to bitch slap yourself (legal probs) in order to grow up & start taking responsibility for your life..I hope this cat comes to the D and rocks Ford Field..I beleive in second chances
Never give up..we will be atop the NFL one day:)
Pro's & Con's
Pro: 1. Very talented receiver. Usually makes a difference in a couple of key games. That could mean and extra win or two… which means he would be a good pick up.
2. With the uncapped year coming up… there will be a shortage of unrestricted free agents. This makes him one of the best free agents available.
Con’s: 1. Nickname is “the human hamstring” due to his recurring hamstring issues. (he does have good hands though).
2. Possibly not in football shape since he’s been out for 1 year.
I do hope we get him though.
