Donte' Stallworth Signs with Ravens

Donte' Stallworth reportedly worked out for the Lions last week, but nothing seemed to develop, at least publicly, from his visit to Allen Park.  There were surprisingly no rumors or even whispers about how the workout went and if the Lions had any interest in him.  It's no surprise that nothing leaked out from the Lions' camp considering anything involving free agents is going to be secretive, but I was surprised that we didn't get even a little info out of Stallworth and company.

My best guess as to why no information did leak out is because there just wasn't a mutual interest between the Lions and Stallworth.  I say that mainly because just a day after working out with the Ravens, Stallworth has already signed a one-year deal with the team.  I don't know if the Lions weren't interested in Stallworth after the workout or if it was the other way around, but considering Stallworth's contract with Baltimore is only worth $900,000 (and $300,000 in incentives), my guess is the latter.

Unless Stallworth was just really off during his workout, I can't see how the Lions would flat out pass on him considering they need to upgrade the wide receiver position and the market isn't exactly going to be filled with a ton of options.  That is why I believe that Stallworth probably told the Lions -- if there was an offer on the table -- that he will think about it.  In turn, Stallworth proceeded to work out with Baltimore and got an offer to join what is definitely a better-looking situation.

For the Lions, regardless of whether or not they wanted to sign Stallworth, the fact remains that the wide receiver position needs an upgrade this offseason.  Considering the free agent market isn't exactly going to be filled with a huge array of options, the Lions may have to open up their checkbook if the right free agent comes along or they may have to just address the need in the draft.

- another sub par reciever with baggage

Do the Lions need help at receiver?? Absolutely! But not in the form of Donte Stallworth. Donte may be out to prove the league wrong, but his best days are behind him. The Lions need to concentrate on giving their young quarterback more protection, which will improve all of their receivers. Bryant Johnson’s year would have been much improved had Stafford not missed him on several “wide-open” routes this year. Throws sailed too long or no where near Bryant when he had snuck in behind the opposing secondary. I hope the Lions draft another reciever, with one of their 5 round picks. A possession guy like Shipley from Texas. The first pick need to be DLine, 2nd & 3rd OL or a great cornerback. Running back has to be in the 4th round as who knows what will transpire with Kevin Smith. Then you look at recievers.

We're gonna need a receiver here in this draft

I wouldn’t be surprised if we go a WR at the top of the 2nd. If not then, the 3rd or 4th seems possible.

The Bringers of Hope: Stafford - Delmas - C. Johnson - Pettigrew - Levy - Hill - Schwartz
Zack Follett: he will hurt your mind.
