Lions Claim Linebacker Ashlee Palmer

The Lions added linebacker Ashlee Palmer to the team, claiming him off waivers after he was released by the Bills.  According to John Niyo, the Buccaneers also tried to claim him, but since the Lions narrowly have priority over them, Palmer is headed to Detroit.

Palmer was signed by the Bills as an undrafted rookie free agent last year and ended up becoming a pretty good special teams player.  He appeared in 14 games for Buffalo last season and was one of seven players that the Bills got rid of earlier this week.

Beefs up the special teams and gives more flexability in the later rounds of the draft. Works for me

….Dizon played well enough last year to stay on the team.

I would argue....

….Sims was are worst LB last year….Even before the injuries set in.

by BennieBladesFan on Feb 18, 2010 2:21 PM EST up reply actions

Tell me what Sims did?

I watched every game the last couple weeks on DVR and I saw nothign special what os ever out of a guy the was the number 9 pick in the draft.

This will be his last year in the D...

Unless he realizes that he doesnt have to make every play anymore, play his position, everyone else will play theirs as well and everyone will play better cause of it. He made some outstanding reads and plays after he got back from injury shooting gaps and blowing run plays up, then the next play he would read sweep and he had backside way overpursues and the RB cuts back runs for thirty yard. What he should of done is just pursue the line of scrimmage and have trust the guys are gonna make the tackle or make him cutback to where our help should be.

by Gyorick on Feb 18, 2010 7:11 PM EST up reply actions

I agree....

…..that he did make some great plays no doubt…..You hit the nail on teh head about reads…..Just to inconsistent for a top 10 pick

i ment dizon was are worst

sims did fine he just missed way to much time.. for time played he was one of are better ones

dizon on the other hand cant get his head out his ass on D and is only a ST…

Ashlee Palmer can play on D and even started a few games this year… the down side to him is he isnt that big

he did get in footes face though

Foot was messing up a call for LBs and dizon questioned him. We had to call timeout but dizon was right if I remember correctly. Still I’m over him I would like to see follett get his chance and think he will contribute more this year on d not just special teams

If he's half og Follett

I’d be gettin the hell out of bounds

I think its good for depth

I like this pick its always good to have depth in all places.I still think the Lions will resign Foote and trade Sims. But i think with our draft we wil lget Suh first and then with 34th pick either Graham or Cody and yes in the draft we will get a SS i think the Lions should get the SS from Ohio State cvant remember his name but hes been solid and always around the ball.

I surprized the Rams

let him get by on waivers……. they needed help at LB too..but hell I’ll take it… of course ….it’s all talk till the final 53 are determined.

It shows the Lions are serious about getting better at a already strong LB position… this affects Dizon (cut or get better!), Sims (trade?), Foote (FA signing?)… Like Jim Schwartz says… “there’s no scholarships here ….you have to earn your position.. veteran or not”..

I look forward to see who makes the final roster.. Camp should be even more interesting than last year. There will be even more fierce competition for the final roster!!!!

GO LIONS in 2010! the transformation starts now.. they have much to do.

If the rams needed help at LB and let him go, all it shows is that he isn’t even worth a look. Why let a worthy player at a position you need hit the waiver wire? It’s just another signing for Detroit that will amount to nothing more than position depth and practice squad fodder.

Always need new talent

The Bringers of Hope: Stafford - Delmas - C. Johnson - Pettigrew - Levy - Hill - Schwartz
Zack Follett: he will hurt your mind.

LB position getting stronger

Its good to see the LIons making these moves this early in the offseason.

-I would like to see PainTrain follett on more than just special teams

I think he has mad potential plus he seems like a good guy.

by perfectlions on Feb 19, 2010 10:30 AM EST via mobile reply actions

Maybe eventually....

……He may be a little to agressive to play on a regular basis….You dont want him to lose his aggressivness, because its great for speicla teams, and play him on a regular basis a lil more and have him lose that agrresiveness on special teams.

Poor guy

This close to escaping cold Buffalo for warm Tampa, only for NFL rules to screw him over and direct him to cold, and (in football terms) desolate Detroit.
