Sources: New York Jets plan to release running back Thomas Jones
Adam Schefter is reporting that Jones will be released by the Jets. The group of free agent running backs is going to be very deep, which is good news for the Lions.

Of all of the names on free agency..
taking into consideration age, durability, and cost to sign, I think Thomas Jones would be my favorite pickup for the lions.
He would be a great starter with Aaron Brown for change of pace, at least until Kevin Smith is healthy and we can evaluate where he is at.
I think Thomas Jones still has a lot of tread left on the tires…
+1
I would love a RB by committee with Jones and at some point a healthy Smith.

15 touchdowns last year?
If the Jets are going to pass on him (you kind of knew this was coming when you saw Greene get so many playoff carries) then why not have my other favorite team pick him up? I think he proved last season that he still can make plays (he broke the Jets’ single game rush record this past season formerly set by Curtis Martin). Of all the RBS out there on the free market, Jones is the only one whose numbers weren’t in decline this past season. This pickup would be one of the more intelligent moves Lion management has made, if it gets done.
Sounds good
