My Worst Nightmare is Likely to be a Lion Reality.....
This is a sort if pessimistic viewpoint I suppose, but generally when I really want the Lion's to go one direction they tend to go in the opposite direction. As such, I am going to put together my least favorite mock scenario. This will probably be exactly what the Lions do in the draft, because I hate it with a passion. FML.
Round 1 - Gerald McCoy - DT
Round 2 - Golden Tate - WR
Round 3 - Toby Gerhart - RB
Round 4 - Lindsey Witten - DE
Round 5 - Jerome Murphy - CB (this would be my 2nd favorite pick)
Round 5 - Sergio Render - OG (this would be my 3rd favorite pick)
Round 6 - Barry Church - S (this would be my favorite pick)
Remember.....this is NOT my idea of a good draft. I just tried to think of what Millen would do, and this is what I came up with.

Not Millen enough
Millen would throw darts at names on a wall. He’d also draft Zoltan Mesko just for a training camp leg and then cut him.
Dude, as hard as you can try, you still can’t even fake being 1/2 as fucking dumb as Millen. Epic fail on so many levels. Stop eating crayons and paste, quit licking windows and put your bike helmet back on lil buddy

lol
It would be very difficult to truly emanate Matt Millen’s draft “prowess” wouldn’t it…..but I think the above draft would come close to retarded at least.

2 things
Millen always drafted a WR in round 1 (with the exception of joey) and hated good offensive lineman

wooosa.....
I know its bad cause we want to hear information about possible picks and all we get from the FO is the standard boring generic blurb.
I personally dont think this draft will be all that bad.
True, doesnt have EVERYONE i would like but even these guys are improvements (some) over some of the guys we have now.
I really things will work out for the best. I believe we are well on our way to being like the Saints.
We cant suck FOREVER.

The fact that you just said that...
just put us back another 10 years — It’s a rule. Every time somebody mentions the Lions on the right track means we will instantly lose for another 10. We actually won’t see a winning season for another 3,425 years (reverse psychology lesson here).

So retchingly bad........
that it’s a work of art in its complete ugliness. Throw in Zoltan Mesko in place of Murphy and it might be perfectly ugly.
That’s what I get for multitasking. Jazzy beat me to the Mesko reference. =P

Ive seen worse
besides McCoy is at least a great prospect. Millen drafted until Calvin short drunk receivers in the first round. If tate is available in the third round maybe they can look at him but too many needs for him in the 2nd. I dont like Gerhart but a lot of people do but if he is available in the 5th or later they should look at him but dont take him because they think he is an every down back. Trust me this draft is not a nightmare but its not the best scenario either.

I do not like Gerald McCoy.....not even a little
He is a project prospect in the NFL, and I do not care what Mayock and The Hair have to say about it. I watched this guy play several games with my own eyes, and by God I did not see anything that was impressive enough to have him in the top 5. He was terrible against texas and Oklahoma State (the wanna be MSU of the Big 12). They double teamed him all day long, and did he adapt, improvise, and overcome? Hell no! Did his supposed ability, sheer strength. amazing technique, or even his speed allow him to dominate in the face of adversity? Hell no! Is he suddenly going to be a better player at the pro level? Will he make an immediate impact? I say no, and that is why I do not want him with pick #2.
Ndamukong Suh is a completely different story. He blasts through double teams at the collegiate level. If he is struggling with blockers, he adapts, improvises, and overcomes them with his sheer strength, ability, speed, and technique. Gerald McCoy and Ndamukong Suh are not even close to COMPARABLE! Sure, Suh had some injuries…..however, he has not been injured since his sophomore season and he has been ultimately dominant ever since! I swear to all that is holy, it seems like there is always a conspiracy when it comes to the Lions picking near the top of the draft (not saying there IS one, just saying it seems that way). Suddenly, “experts” are all clamoring over players that, in my opinion, have no business in the top 5 of the draft. Eric Berry is the real deal….he is a true blue chip prospect! When people compare him to players like Ed Reed, and say he is the best safety to enter the draft since Ed Reed, they are not just making it up. The kid is a game changer, and someone who will make an immediate and (barring injury) long term impact on our defense! That is the type of player we need to target, not players that are hyped up to fit positional needs.
We also DO NOT…..I repeat DO NOT……need a WR in the 2nd round! For God’s sake man, we would have WON a lot more games last year IF our defense had not been allowing teams to score at will, with almost every opposing QB getting a >100 passer rating against us! We need defensive linemen and secondary help FIRST AND FOREMOST! Not only do we need those positional players more than any other area on the team, but also they are likely to be the best players available at our draft positions!
If Suh goes #1, then Eric Berry should be the BPA. If Kyle Wilson is still around at pick 34, then he should be the BPA. A running back like Gerhart in the 3rd round? Are you kidding me? If we take a S and a CB in rounds 1 and 2, then a guard like Mike Johnson could be sitting there when we pick in the 3rd round…..and he would likely be the BPA (Larry Asante could be there, and be the BPA, if we get Suh in round 1).
So much depends on what happens in the first round…..if we get Suh, and then Kyle Wilson and Larry Asante, then I would be betting on a guy like Blount in the 4th round. Then I would bet on at least one guard in the 5th (Render or John Jerry), maybe both….unless we can get a good DE in the 5th too. That leave the WR pick for the 6th round…..where Antonio “Crazy Eyes” Brown should be ready and waiting.
We do not have to draft a RB or WR high to get decent options. If our defense can step up, even last year’s offense could keep us in a lot of games.
Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!

I'm actually hoping for a WR (or a RB) at #34
This is jut the way I look at it, but I think trying to decide between a CB and a RB/WR at #34 comes down to deciding whether it is better to
A. Unleash our biggest strength
or
B. Fix our biggest weakness
I’d rather do A. I’m sick & tired of teams shutting us down by simply triple-teaming Calvin Johnson because we have no other threats. We have arguably the most physically talented receiver in the NFL, we finally have a QB who can get him the ball, and then we have a bunch of guys who are no threat at all. If Damian Williams or Golden Tate or Jahvid Best is there at #34, even if Brandon Ghee and Kyle Wilson are there too, I kind of hope we go offense.
by n4ry4 on Feb 9, 2010 1:46 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
agreed....to a degree
Here is how the BPA would rank for me at #34:
1) Brandon Graham
2) Kyle Wilson
3) Jonathan Dwyer
4) Golden Tate
5) Arnelious Benn
THere is a very good chance the first two guys on that list are gone by the time we pick, so we could very likely see a offensive player taken in the 2nd round.
I think there is a really high chance that the Rams pick Wilson with their 33rd pick, they need a CB as much as we do

No Golden Tate for the simple reason Lou Holtz kissed his ass ALL FUCKING YEAR long. MAn I hate that spit-mouthed old asshole. I almost cried I was laughing so hard when MArk May did that monologue about how much Lou Holtz sucks NDs dick.
So No to GT, it will remind too much of Lou Holtz

WR isn’t far off CB as a need. Both positions are deep this year so we can get some talent either way. Plus, the way Schwartz and co. have been talking, offensive weapons seems to be on the agenda.

KDawg speaks truth!
I have seen the same things on TV and tape that KDawg has. I agree completely on McCoy, Suh, and Berry.
As for the conspiracy, sometimes I think the “experts” like to mock the Lions as picking the “bust” pick out of disrespect to us……even if only subconciously. That little voice under Kiper’s hair that he’s trying to ignore, the voice that says Gerald McCoy is an overrated bum, subconciously coerces Kiper into saying “Hey, McCoy’s great, ….let’s see,….the LIONS will draft him.”
Thanks a lot, Mel. (facepalm)

I was going to watch a few videos of McCoy
To try and find these problems with McCoy’s game. Then I realised that watching Youtube highlights probably isn’t all that illuminating because they are ‘highlights’. So, really, all I can go on is what I read. And as far as I’m concerned, I’ve read too many good reports to believe that he is a ‘dud’. Sure, it’s possible that he’ll be a bust, we’ve seen it happen to many highly touted prospects but McCoy seems to be a good player in the making. In saying all that though, I need to do more research on him.

It's not horrible
It’s not brilliant but it’s not horrible.
McCoy is a talent (regardless of what you say KDawg), Tate isn’t my favourite receiver but I wouldn’t be surprised if we take a WR or RB with the #34. Gerhart is a solid power back prospect, although 3rd might be a touch too high. Then you have Witten, Murphy, Render and Church who are all decent prospects. I think you could have done much worse.

Wow
Even just reading the names I can ABSOLUTELY see this as a Millen draft. I actually can’t say if it would be horrendous or not, but it seems so perfectly misguided you can actually picture what players are still on the board when each of these picks take place. Reaching for players here, drafting perceived needs there, add a little local flavor…Bingo…you’re 0-16 before you know it!

Defense... Defense... then some Offense
I hope that we use the first 2 picks on Defense, Maybe Dan Williams could fall to us on the 2nd round. Not likely though. Than maybe a good guard would make for a great first 3 rounds.
I’m also hoping that Mayhew can pull off another trade like he did last year… I’m wondering who he can get rid of… for extra picks.
by coolbreeze42 on Feb 11, 2010 10:47 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Yeah man
If Suh is gone at pick 2, then I want to see Berry as our 1st round pick. Hopefully the BPA in round 2 will be a defensive player as well…..IE if Kyle Wilson falls to round 2. If not Wilson, then maybe Brandon Graham or Dan Williams falls to round 2……or possibly Patrick Robinson or Devin McCourty. I would even give consideration to Jared Odrick at 6’5 301 pounds in round 2.
Honestly, I am hoping for defense in the first 3 rounds…..Berry, a DT/DE/CB, and then a DT or CB depending on whaqt we do in round 1 and 2……however, I am on the BPA regardless of positional need bandwagon (outside of QB, TE, RB (before round 4), or WR (before round 4)). That said, if there is a guard in round 3 that is the BPA….I say we grab him. If there is a player that fell to the second or third round (even if it is a RB, WR, or LB) that is the BPA and we simply can not pass on him, then I would be fine with that too. My main concern is getting IMMEDIATE IMPACT players (AKA special players) with our first two picks.
