Allen Park -- Former Cincinnati Bengals running back DeDe Dorsey has signed a contract with the Lions, according to a league source.
Dorsey sent a Twitter message Tuesday that read: "I am the newest member of ... The Detroit Lions. Motown here I come! I can't wait to get out there and do my thing! Back to the Jungle ... I was a Lindenwood Lion in College and now I am a Detroit Lion in the NFL ... makes sense."
Dorsey, 25, played college football at Lindenwood in St. Charles, Mo. He is 5-foot-11 and 210 pounds.

Dorsey also had offers from St. Louis and Minnesota. The Lions were in the market for a running back after an ACL injury put starter Kevin Smith on injured reserve last season. It's unclear if Smith will be ready to rejoin the team on the field by the start of training camp in July.
Dorsey looked like a tough runner with speed on the HBO series "Hard Knocks" but ultimately was released by the Bengals after being inactive in a Week 1 loss to the Broncos.
After being released, Dorsey went to the United Football League (UFL). While playing for the Las Vegas Locomotives, he was named MVP of the inaugural UFL championship game.
The Lions are still expected to take a running back in April's draft or possibly sign another free agent.

just dont.. maybe i am wrong but one would think he would have been picked up before now
and not been in the CFL..
but apparently he played some FS in school to as well
Does this change the Lions draft plans at RB?
If confirmed, would this move RB to a lower status on the Lions draft plans?
It shows Mayhew is already doing his homework to improve the roster at RB. The guy was the MVP of the UFL, 210 lbs and a good size. He played for the Bengals.
The important point, no other team tried to grab him. He could have been picked up anytime after the UFL season. I do remember he has rumored to be picked up by the Lions.
If he performs well, he could be a steal salary wise to push Morris for a starting job while Smith is down. What do you think of the possible early move by Mayhew? I thought Morris’ production was fine with Smith down. It’s early but it will make training camp interesting upon the cuts to 53 players along with at least one RB pick in the draft! But then the pick will be a good one too depending on who slides.
Your thoughts?
GO LIONS in 2010! the transformation starts now.. they have much to do.
looks like just a tryout move
nothing big..maybe stays in the practice squad during the season.
The beginning of the end of the misery
i like the move by lions any help at rb will make the need for drafting a rb this year. the lions should only draft a rb in 5rd this year beause of deep draft in is
deep in dt. or de or ss.. if they are in 5rd ben tate out of auburn or montario
hardesty out of tenessee both are great vaule and could push smith for starter for lions.
Give him a shot, see what happens.
The Bringers of Hope: Stafford - Delmas - C. Johnson - Pettigrew - Levy - Hill - Schwartz
Zack Follett: he will hurt your mind.
they will check him out in OTA's
and practice. I think he will make a good depth back but thats about it.
