PLEASE DO THIS DETROIT
We are not U of M, we dont to shy away from someone who was in trouble with the law. Bible thumpers need to remember that his crime although avoidable was an accident. WE NEED HIM. As long as he hasnt lost it, (we all know what can happen to a receiver when they miss a year) make him a competive offer to be our #2 so we can use that draft pick on defense…..

Stallworth would be an asset....
Being across CJ would help him a lot. When he has had other receivers to take coverage away, he does good. This would also take the possible need away from us having to draft a WR later in the draft.
I’m down for Stallworth. As long as he competes.
GO LIONS! RESTORE THE ROAR!
Well, he'd at least provide us with another receiving option.
Unsure what I think about him though.
The Bringers of Hope: Stafford - Delmas - C. Johnson - Pettigrew - Levy - Hill - Schwartz
Zack Follett: he will hurt your mind.
I don't really care about his character issues
It’s not like he’s going to soil our stellar reputation.
This would be an improvment, and I hope the deal gets done.
+ a bizillion
Character issues BE DAMNED!
Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!
I'll see your bizillion...
…and raise you a gazillion!
If the Lions were a rock solid organization, and “character issues” were something to be considered, maybe this would be debatable. But a speedy receiver who can stretch the field and relieve some of the coverage on CJ is precisely what this receiving core needs.

why not
there need to be competition at camp… let’s raise the bar at WR… the LIONS are serious about getting things together…. Mayhew you are the man!!! if the guy is gfood this this shifts WR to a lower priority (if at all) in the draft… DEFENSE and LINE HELP!
GO LIONS in 2010! the transformation starts now.. they have much to do.
+1
there more offensive moves we make like this then the more defensive moves we can make thru the draft. Im lovin mayhew more and more!

I think...
He’s made a solid no.2 for this season and we can see what him, CJ and BJ can do while Derrick Williams develops. If it doesn’t work out, then we draft a WR in the 2nd round next year/trade/free agent pick up to be our for sure solid no.2 and have BJ and Stallworth fight it out for no.3 spot.
Stallworth
Is an above average Number 2 if he plays like he did in philly. In NE he sat behind Moss and Welker and could not shine. If he goes out and competes, and keeps his hamstrings healthy we have a GREAT slot guy and even a good number 2
He still did...
…everything that was asked of him. I attribute a lot of Randy Moss’s success that season to Donte Stallworth (and obviously Wes Welker). That team just had too many threats to cover all of them, and Brady simply couldn’t miss his targets. I’m not saying this turns the Lions around…but big arm quarterback, two speedy receivers that can actually catch a ball…it all sounds pretty good to me.

exactly...
by the way, i meant to say “he’ll make” not “he’s made”. If he fails to produce across from CJ, make him a no.3 possibly the following year and use a higher pick on a WR in the first three rounds.

of course
I said this about Bryant Johnson and Northcutt…. i hope Stallworth is as hungry as it may seem… Plus hopefully this will get the rookie WR picked up last year to work harder… (including competition at RB with the aquistion of Dorsey)

I love the moves that have been made!!
The moves show that we may not be looking to draft a WR or a RB after all!!! WOOHOO!!!!
Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!
He's not signed yet.
I think he is our #2 WR. Stallworth has blazing speed and decent hands. Well, I don’t know if he still has blazing speed. He’s better than what we have now with the execption of CJ.
I know.....
But he is here, working out…..that is a good sign!
Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!
I agree
KDawg you know we go back like the completely defeated Lions season. LOL Oh wait, that’s not funny.
All that is missing now....
Is the complete whiff of a nerd high five….lol
Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!
Stallworth would be a huge signing....
step by step. This franchise is starting to act like….ummm…well….a NFL franchise.
if the shoe fits...get another one just like it - George Carlin
Got a question...
If the Lions want to sign Stallworth, do they have to wait till FA officially starts, or can they sign him right now if they want to, like they did with Dorsey?
The beginning of the end of the misery
they can sign him right now...
the free agency deadline is for players currently under contract are free from their existing contract…a la Haynesworth had to wait and teams couldn’t tamper as the titans had the rights to him as well as the right to try to negotiate a new contract until the deadline. Stallworth has no contract thus no need to wait.

lions
take the freebie deal now then!!!! the guy has something to prove… you can’t lose… if he looks good at the workout then sign him for a reasonable deal.. if not drop em.. with little penalty… hell yeah… it looks like most of you are thinking my way.. especially when we can focus draft wise away from WR
GO LIONS in 2010! the transformation starts now.. they have much to do.
This guy has never done anything....
…really…..He hasnt played in aover a year as well.

he's done more...
than anyone on our roster besides CJ. He has shown tons of potential and coming off a year (where he wasn’t in jail, so therefor he’s been able to train/keep in shape) that he didn’t play and will want to re-establish himself and have a drive to prove himself. I say sign him for two years and if he succeeds keep him or even trade him for some extra draft picks.

All I recall about Stallworth
was his bug eyes in his last pats game when dropped a ton of balls and the pats lost.
At least I think that was Stallworth.

As long as you don't give him keys to the team cart
He could work out.
[...]when Giants coach Steve Owen, a certified defensive genius, was asked how he planned to stop Nagurski, he said: "With a shotgun, as he’s leaving the dressing room."
He has dreads
Anyone who has dreads is a good player. Delmas, cribbs, hester, Jackson… Just to name a few.

Why are we excited....
….to maybe sign a guy that hasent played football in over a year and had an awful before that?…..I think we need to go a different route on this one….Come on Mayhew please tell me your just working this guy out.

Note: he's not signed yet
if he is signed it would be for a cheap contract.. he still has to make it through camp also… issues or not he will have to prove himself to get paid and to make the 53.. it create more competition in camp at RB (Dorsey) and WR (Stallworth if signed)
I’m not jumping up and down yet (I’ll believe it when I see it on the field at the first games of the regular season) but I do give Mayhew credit. These little signings show he is trying to improve the team. PERIOD. I believe / know we have the right staff to finally get this team where we as huge Lions fans want them to be …… north of 500!
It will happen and the 2010 draft will get us closer… (3-7 wins?) This draft with the depth defensively could he what the Lions needed.. It still will take time but these offseason moves will be a HUGE step in the right direction!
Note what Dorsey said… he likes the spirit of the team and where it is going.. The league knows the Lions want to get better.. this is the start of something good… and the league is starting to recognize this… when calling Sirius XM Radio and talking with many NFL professional hosts there.. they say the same thing.. I like what the Lions are doing and they are feverishly working hard to improve the team!!!!
GO LIONS in 2010! the transformation starts now.. they have much to do.
Depth
The key issue here is creating depth and talent through the draft. We have an opportunity to bring in and develop 5 or more players to try to get them on the team. We have to make the most of our draft choices and 3rd round picks have to be at least be back up quality if not better. 1st and 2nd round choices for us should top caliber athletes who are going to make the team and compete for a starting position. I look at the Sammie Hill choice this year and I really like it more and more. He’s a big, athletic guy who has the tools to be a starter. Worst case scenario we keep him around for depth like Jared DeVries all these years. This years draft class has been phenomenal. Each player has potential to be solid and adds depth. DeAndre Levy was a 3rd round gem. If this years draft can be as effective as last years I think we’ll look at seeing this team compete at around the .500 level, and hopefully gel into a competitive team by Schwartz/Mayehw’s 3rd season.
Dinordo......my response started....
….with maybe….I didnt say we signed him.

no prob
I said the same thing to about IF he’s signed…. He’s not signed…….
but realistically guys and gals… he’ll sign with a team that is closer to making the playoffs, we are not the only team he is looking at ….we are just the FIRST team to work him out…(like everything until it happens just like the draft this is just talk and speculation)
The key point I’m making is: Mayhew is making some noise to appease Calvin Johnson and show he is going to work to get the Lions competive…. period. That what we fans / Stafford deserve and it shows he’s battling to improve the Lions. We will get there.
GO LIONS in 2010! the transformation starts now.. they have much to do.
