Eric Berry is the safest pick...
Personally, I think he's a SAFER pick than Suh. People will call me crazy perhaps, but to me, it's plausible. We need secondary help. He's easily in contention with Suh as the best all-around player in the draft. And I just think that Suh could possibly be being talked up to a level that he can't meet. Yes, he absolutely dominated in college. The pros are different. We've seen time and again how the pros brings these college stars down to Earth. Suh may run into the same thing. I think Eric Berry has IT. And the Lions need that as much as possible. With Berry and Delmas back there, I would feel tons better about where our pass defense was headed in the future.

Eric Berry
I am starting to think that Berry is the better pick. I like the Best player and I really think he is the best player. This is also due to Suh having his previous knee issues.
I think that a lot of good DT’s are available in the later rounds.
Good call
I like you info about the knees. Never knew that for some reason but makes it easier for me to want Berry more than Suh.

Suh had knee problems as a sophomore
And has not been injured since…..not to mention the fact that he dominated after the injuries…..he is awesome. I do like Eric Berry, but Suh is the pick if he is there at #2.
Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!
Ok Crazy....
….Idrather have Suh or Mccoy…..We have no DT pass rush….These guys dont grow on trees…..We need a DT
Bullshit
We need the best player available, and that is either Suh or Berry.
Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!
Dude....
….Chill….Anyway I agree with what your saying and im saying that Mccoy is the 2nd best player available so if hes there we take him.

I personally....
…..Like the idea of the rumor of trading Sims for Kerry Rhodes from the jets….Then we wont need to worry about taking Berry,

Ask the Rams about making "safe" picks.
A little history:
2003 – #12 Jimmy Kennedy DT
2004 – #24 Stephen Jackson RB
2005 – #19 Alex Barron OT
2006 – #15 Tye Hill CB
2007 – #13 Adam Carriker NT
2008 – #2 Chris Long DE
2009 – #2 Jason Smith OT
Okay, we all know that Jackson is one of the best backs in the NFL. A great pick. They picked linemen, supposedly the least risky picks, five of the last seven years. And where are they now? Looking to pick another D lineman. Their O line is not very good despite picking two Tackles and getting a high priced Center [Jason Brown] in FA.
There are no safe picks out there. Teams need to do their homework and pick the best player they can get. Is it Berry? Maybe. Is it McCoy or Suh? Could be. I think it is extremely tough for us to make an informed judgement. But we sure as hell can speculate and guess.

you are absolutely right. . .
there is no such thing as a safe pick. . .i am sure the list is long and distinguished of safe picks that ended up as busts
No safe picks = correct
We should be looking for smart picks.

If you are looking for secondary...
draft Joe Haden out of Florida. A future shut down corner is more valuable than A safety. I no Berry is a better prospect but if the team wants secondary they should draft Joe Haden. I believe Suh will be the pick cuz the rams r in no position to take anything but a QB so this debate will end soon enough.
Suh
Yes like Eric Berry and he would be good 4 our pass defense but we need to start with a solid D-Line and then work through all the rest of our problems.
So if Suh is gone....
….why isnt Mccoy the best player available?…..Berry is good too but I think Mccoy is the 2nd best available since a lot of people have him ranked higher or say hes just as good as Suh.

diffrence in taste
They have to completely diffrent styles. Mccoy is a power DT Suh is more about the spin and swim moves not that he can’t power. There is a distinct diffrence. Alot of people feel that each fits a diffrent type of system. I think we just all have to wait until april. Hell we could all be wrong and they could take Russel at OT its anyones guess. Lets get into Free Agency it could chane EVERYTHING.

Berry is intriguing
I’ll have to look into him more.

I agree, Berry may be the safer pick for us.......therefore I'm starting to think there is a real chance the Lions pass on Suh at #2 and take Berry instead
The emphasis is on best pick for US. Both Suh and Berry are great players (not McCoy), but the difference is while Suh MIGHT be able to fit and play an effective role in our defense, Berry ABSOLUTELY fits. The key is the UT position. Suh is an undertackle, that’s where his skills fit best. Sammie Lee Hill is also at his best at UT. Do we need 2 young UT’s and an aging NT? Plus, Gunther wants GIANT DT’s for his defense……he wants an UT who is HUGE but agile for his size, like SLH. Suh is average size for a DT at 305 Lbs, but immensely strong for his size. Will that make up for his lack of 330 Lb+ bulk? At NT, no. At UT (his best fit), maybe. He MIGHT not be as effective in this defense as he would be on another team’s defense (by comparison, Gerald McCoy DEFINITELY would not be as effective in Gunther’s defense as he would be for some other team).
Meanwhile, Eric Berry is a PERFECT fit as a fast, smart, aggressive man cover safety……another Delmas. He’s a special player. For OUR team, Berry is, IMO, the safer pick. I’m getting a suspicion that maybe the Lions are thinking that way, too. More on that later.

Hey, as long as Zack Follett keeps hitting people, he can rap to Barney the Dinosaur for all I care.
Is Berry our pick?
I agree with GRLion, I read that Suh and McCoy aren’t big enough for Gunther. Since the DT’s are really deep this year, we should be able to pick up one that they want in the later rounds.
However; They pretty much had everyone convinced last year that we would pick up Aaron Curry.
So maybe they do want Suh.
