If these 5 guys fall to # 34,who do we take (poll)

I think MOST of the Lions fans want Suh,McCoy,Berry or Okung at pick #2 in the draft (unless we can trade down for mutliple picks in round 2).  Whoever they take at # 2 overall, will be a Great player and 98% of the fans will be ok with the pick.,(even if they prefer one guy to another)The key to the Lions draft are probably picks 34 and 66. With these picks the Lions Should grab a CB/S   and a running back.  But what if one of these guys "slide" to pick 34,what do the Lions do.                       M.Pouncey G/C (Flor) .Taylor Mays S (USC).Ryan Matthews RB (Fres St).Kyle Wilson CB (Boise St)          Mike Iupati G (Idaho) .     I do think all 5 will go in round one,but like in EVERY draft a player or 2 slips to round 2.

Poll
If one of these 5 guys "slide" to pick 34,who do the Lions take?

C) Kyle Wilson CB

D) Mike Iupati G

Definitely Wilson

I’m on the bandwagon and everything, but I definitely hope that Kyle Wilson gets a chance to team up with Louis Delmas (and Eric Berry!) in our secondary. It would be unbelievable.

by Nate D. on Mar 10, 2010 6:21 PM EST reply actions

Right on

I’m a Suh backer, but I have to admit if we had Delmas, Berry and Wilson in the secondary… it would be very sweet. Very doubtful it will happen, though. I think we’ll have a better shot at Iupati than Wilson, IMO.

Pouncy

Depth on O-line.

and no Iupati especially after his senior bowl

Lupati

Lupati holds a little too much. He would be a penalty machine!

Kyle Wilson for sure..

If he is not there and it is the same list i had to pick from, 100% for Pouncy. I think he could be our new starting center in at least 1yr if not compete for it or possibly gaurd right away !

by Joey-P on Mar 10, 2010 6:31 PM EST reply actions

For me

It was between Wilson and Iupati and I voted for Wilson because quality CB’s are hard to find so he represents better value.

im with you but I went

Lupati. we won’t be world beaters and this is a big hole at guard. that being said its no bigger of a need than CB

Iupati or Wilson

I would rather grab Iupati for help on that line if we don’t get Okung in the first which is most likely. The offensive line is our biggest need on that side of the ball while corner is the weakest on the defensive side of the ball but at the end of the day, you have to make sure you protect your young guy and 42 million dollar guaranteed investment in Stafford. If Iupati’s there, which I doubt, they have to take him.

But I don’t think he’ll be their and I wouldn’t be mad if they got Wilson who can definitely be a starter in this league.

Like Matthews

Wilson for sure though. We need DBs and he has a serious upside and leadership quality.

I think Jahvid Best should be an option in the poll

or at least an “other” category.

I’d take Iupati or Wilson over Best, but I think both those guys will be gone in the 1st, and I’d take Best over Pouncey, Mays or Matthews

Kyle Wilson, definitely.

We won’t need the O Linemen because we will have drafted Russell Okung at #3 [after our trade down with Tampa]. LOL

by NorthLeft12 on Mar 10, 2010 7:17 PM EST reply actions

WTF we need Okung for?

Why take this guy so early? Pouncey is better. I voted for Wilson because he can start. Pouncey can start from day one also but I like Wilson if he is still there. If not, then we take Pouncey.

we do this every year over hype the hell out of everyone and for every “BOZ” there is a Brian Cushing who lives up to or exceeds it.

Not at all a risk

If we don’t take Berry and Mays is there in the second, they should seriously consider it.

Thank you DREW

Since I truly beleave we are going to take Kong at the #2 pick, If Mayes is there when we draft in the second round I don’t see how we can pass up that guy. It would be a better play out for me if we got Kong at #2 and Mayes at #34. Then this draft would be graded out as an A+ reguardless of who we draft after that, Cause I could see CB/G in the 3rd/4th round and CB being more than likely in the 3rd.

How many lumps you want Doc?

Mays won't be there

No way he gets out of Pete Carroll’s hands. He’ll take him with his 2nd pick if he’s not off the board.

Personally I’d rather have a different safety than him. I agree with the Roy Williams comparisons.

by Nate D. on Mar 11, 2010 1:56 AM EST up reply actions

I agree we probably won't take Mays

Because Schwartz goes with “right” and “left” safeties instead of “strong” and “free”, they both have to be complete players against the run and the pass. If a guy is really powerful against the run but stiff in pass coverage, he could be a liability for us.

Maybe not though, but I think somebody who needs a traditional strong safety will value Mays much higher than we will, and he’ll go in the first round.

Golden Tate Interview

I listened to an interview by Golden Tate (nfldraftbible.com). They asked him about his biggest hit… he said Mays hit him and he still felt it months later. Great interview and it made me think of Zack Folliets hits.

I'm surprised Iupati is getting so many votes ... maybe it's just me, but I think he's overrated

assuming Suh in first AND assuming Mays falls that far, I’d be all over Mays without hesitation … that said, if OLine is a need, even for future, I’d prefer Pouncey (Chiefs fans would LOVE him at our 2A pick) or Anthony Davis (OT) of Rutgers, or Vladamir Ducasse (OG) of UMass, though Ducasse is a slight reach at #34

(cut and paste from there)

1/31/10: While Mike Iupati was solid in run-blocking, he was completely abused in pass protection by Geno Atkins. Iupati was beaten numerous times, was called for holding once, and should have been whistled for holding two other times. Let’s not get carried away and call Iupati the best offensive lineman in the 2010 NFL Draft, like Mike Mayock did before the Senior Bowl. Iupati is a tremendous run-blocking guard who is raw in pass protection.

Iupati

wont be there i think the colts or steelers are going to get him so my vote is wilson. IMO Mays will be in seattle (carrol connection) or oakland (we al know al davis smokes crack) in the 1st rd i have yet to see wilson get into the 1st rd in any mocks i have seen..

I'm not sure he's so much overrated as...

maybe a little more raw than most teams would like. He’s had a few suspect games and he gets a little “grabby” when he gets beat, but he a mean, nasty player and gives good effort. I think with a little work on his feet and technique, he’s got fantastic upside. That’s why I think someone will nab him somewhere in the early second or even late first (Pittsburgh or Indy).

IMHO, I think with good preseason work, he could be ready to start by game one for most teams. Might take him a year or two to become a stud, but I think he has the potential. I DEFINITELY think he could be better as a rookie than either Loper or Ramirez.

Wilson is the pick for me

Possibly the second best CB in the draft, and we all know how much we need one. Iupati and Matthews would also be good choices but Wilson seems to provide the best value.
