My turn to role play guys.

Now that the Browns have let go of 1 QB and they are trying to shop Quinn to anyone who will take the guy,I am going to stir the pot here. How about trading down with the Browns assuming that Quinn gets shipped out before draft day. We wouldn't be dropping down that much and Cleveland would HAVE to jump up in front of the Skins at the #4 spot in order to get 1 of 2 QB's that we all feel are going to get drafted in the 1st round. So guys If this actually happens and it could happen. Who would we target in the first round and what do you all think we could get for our #2 pick. I am thinking their first round and possibly thier 3rd does anyone feel that this is a likely trade to happen????? We could probably get Okung or maybe even Berry at the 7 spot? Since there is so many people that think there is NO WAY that anyone is going to draft Berry in the top 5 how about #7. And we would have another pick somewhere down the line. Chime in and let me know what you all think, You know I'll be here!

Holmgrem

Is going to want to get a QB early if they do get rid of Quinn, and if they do I can’t see Senica Wallace being the starting QB. But who knows????

i think he wants a veteran

hes pretty much had a veteran wherever hes coached, and there is talk of Delhomme going to the browns

Really

Favre wasn’t a veteran when he traded for him in GB. Hasselbach was traded for from the Pack and hadn’t had any real playing experience either prior to Holmgrem getting there.Holmgrem beleaves that he can make any QB better but he is up in the box and not on the field so we will see, But I still think that they are going to try and get one of 2 QB’s. He doesn’t seem to like the ND QB that is there, and I just don’t see Delhomme and Senica Wallace as starters on that team. But again we will see. I can only hope we do trade down so the drafting of Berry is more of a real chance in the first round.

We better get

at least a 2nd and 4th for that trade…but I am all for trading down for more picks.

by msulion10 on Mar 10, 2010 11:33 PM EST reply actions

I could see Berry falling to 7...

It would not be that bad of a trade…If we got third or even second back. This type of trade will happen. I am saying that the Lions will be involved. But one of the teams drafting in the top 5 to 7. Will trade down

I cant see him making it past Seattle

Unless the following scenario happens:

1) STL: Suh
2) CLE: Cluassen
3) TB: McCoy
4) WAS: Bradford
5) KC: Okung
6) SEA: Haden

Those last two picks are the hard ones, cause KC and SEA both would probably take Berry over whoever is available

berry

Yeah, I have seen alot of mocks that have berry going 7th. I would require an extra 2nd rounder at least though.

Another thing you forgot to mention

is we would be in a position to let Cleveland, Seattle, and maybe Washington fight it out for our #2. Now just follow me here. If Seattle wants to get their QB this year and Cleveland trades Quinn, then obviously they will know CLE will be looking to trade up to get their QB. So they may say “what is CLE offering you?” then counter-offer with a better deal. And if WAS wants a QB you know they will be calling DET and asking “Hey, are any teams in talks with you about that sexy little pick you got there?”. Then they give a counter offer, and this goes on until our time is up and take the best deal.

Now you may say what if only one team comes calling for that pick? Ah now this is where Mayhew uses that little noodle of his to stir up a better deal. You know whoever calls will ask if anyone else is in on it. So Mayhew just lies and says “Why yes, yes they are!”. So we can still use the leverage of potential (even if made up) trades to other teams to optimize our position at the #2 spot. We are in a perfect spot to take the guy we want or trade out at good value.

You know Toledo

I never thought of that, We should call and thank Holmgrem;if they can find someone sad enough to actually take Quinn that is; for helping out the lions.

LOL

Nice one. But those offers might not come in til the last minute unless the Rams decide and sign their guy a couple days before the draft so assuming thats what they do, than the Lions will have plenty of time to get in all the offers and look them all over and make those teams have a bidding war where one of them might even add in a future first rounder to seal the deal and over pay the Lions. That would be the best scenario in my opinion.

But if the Rams don’t decide til the actual draft then the Lions will only have 15 minutes to go through all those offers and make them fight it out which wouldn’t be as effective as if the Rams have a guy signed prior to the draft.

I'm betting on the Rams getting a deal done first.

It’s the way business is done with the #1 pick nowadays. Just like in my scenario they use leverages from other players to get the best deal they can out of the one they want. Just like last year Curry was willing to accept a great deal but that’s not who we signed. It was more of a ploy to get Stafford’s agent thinking about a lower deal.

I’m not sure how well it worked for us because I think they had the same agent. Don’t quote me on that and feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

not a bad idea

since GM’s do talk w/ each other you maybe able to get seattle’s 2 1st rder’s and fill 2 needs with “elite” players like berry and harden get bama fat boy in the 2nd

if sea drafts 2qb in this draft and tb tackes suh at 3pick and was picks okung at 4pick who doyou think kc picks most like berry at 5pick so that leaves det to pick mccoy at 6pick or if kc picks mccoy then det drafts berry .

by kwfords on Mar 11, 2010 1:58 AM EST reply actions

Based on Holmgren's history

I would not be surprised if he takes a QB but I think his type of guy is McCoy and he will wait to take him early in the 2nd. If the sign Delhomme McCoy can be brought along slowly and Holmgren can have him mentored by an experienced starter (Delhomme) and a guy who knows his offense ( Wallace)

by GTlions on Mar 11, 2010 3:31 AM EST reply actions

Even better

If 3 QB’s go in the first 5 picks for us, then we would be guaranteed 1 of 3 players Okung/Berry/after thought McCoy.

I don't think that you read my post

I’m saying that the Browns will wait to take a QB and therefore not be a good trading partner for the #2 pick

That clev will get rid of one ND QB to go and draft another ND QB? Mamma always says that stupid is as stupid does! lmao GT, I totally misread your statement.

by Latif Masud on Mar 11, 2010 1:03 PM EST up reply actions

right on

i was thinking the same thing, good post. the only thing im worried about is clevland trading with the rams. if your going to have a top five pick, then you might as well have the first one. then you can sign the guy before the draft and get his ass into training camp.

by timmy20 on Mar 11, 2010 6:04 AM EST reply actions

Don't trade with the Browns unless you get at least their second round and fourth round picks too.

I agree with msulion, if they want one of the top two QBs they almost have to trade with us [assuming that the Rams take Bradford or Clausen].
The problem is Okung will not make it to #7. He will be gone by either #4, #5, or #6. Our choice at #7 may be between McCoy, Berry, or Haden.

by NorthLeft12 on Mar 11, 2010 6:30 AM EST reply actions

I would be okay with this...

like many others have said… but only if we pick up their second rounder and maybe a fifth or something else (how ’bout Jerome Harrison? hehe). Better yet, give us a second this year and a second or third in 2011…. that would be a steal.

I can see Holgrem trying to get a quarterback. He’s smart and knows that he will NEVER win in Cleveland without a good QB. Wallace is not that guy. But the real question is if Jimmy Clausen is that guy? Each day that goes by brings the Rams that much closer to taking Bradford, which immediately puts Clausen at a premium. QB-needy teams will be more willing to deal when their options are limited.

But I can also see Holmgren waiting and taking a chance on Tebow (or someone else) – even as high as the second round. No, don’t call me crazy. I can see Holmgren looking at Tebow and seeing a young Brett Favre…. a gamer that has the instincts and is just not necessarily the most conventional guy. All Holmgren has to see is a guy that can win. Tebow might be able to do that. I don’t know.

My sincere hope is that Clausen is lights out at his Pro Day and begins to lose his sense of ND entitlement and lessens his “jackass-ery”. Interviews might be the most important part of his overall assessment, because I think most will contend that the guy is talented.

by DrewsLions on Mar 11, 2010 8:47 AM EST reply actions

That's what I was thinking

Exactly, and we might really hit the jackpot and have Washington take the 3rd QB. Dream world ofcourse but for some reason J Cambell just does not get any love there and with Shanny at the helm he may try to take the 3rd QB.To me that would be just toooo Prrrrrrrrrfect ( like the cat analogy?)

#2 for Joe Thomas straight up, we'll even take Brady Quinn off their hands

ok, won’t happen.

I agree that good value for the #2 would be:

Cleveland’s first (#7)
+ Cleveland’s second (#38)
+ one of:
    Cleveland’s fourth
    or
two of Cleveland’s fifths (they have three picks in the fifth currently)
    or
    Cleveland’s 2011 third
+ a player or two (Quinn would be a better backup than Culpepper or Stanton, but he probably wants to go to a team where he can at least compete for the job)

Hey that's a timeout, I can play right? yeah, get me--get the F-- Help me up...I can throw the ball if you need me to throw the ball...

by n4ry4 on Mar 11, 2010 9:33 AM EST reply actions

I think everyone is jumping the gun

and assuming all these teams want a QB. First, Washington can keep Campbell around and see what he does with good coaching from Shanahan. Or he might like Colt Brennan.
The Seahawks have been talking to the Eagles about one of their QB’s. If they get one then there is no need for them to take a QB. Or they just keep Hasselbeck around.
The Browns sign Delhomme and have Wallace and might not be able to trade Quinn, then they do not trade up to grab another QB.
This QB class is garbage. No one knows what you’re going to get. Especially, when Bradford and Claussen have not thrown yet. What if they stink it up at their pro day? Who wants to jump up and get them now? McCoy is a Chad Pennington type player, accurate with a weak arm. In other words, not an NFL starter. Tebow is Tebow. The other guys are just depth chart QBs.
If a team isn’t sold on one of these guys they can wait til next year. Locker and Mallet might be better pro prospects than anyone in this class. Just because the Jets jumped up for Sanchez, tell me when the last time a team jumped to take a QB that early?

by jeremy j on Mar 11, 2010 11:46 AM EST reply actions

Jeremy

I’m just throwing this stuff out there, But why did 2 Jr. QB’s get taken so early in last years draft? Because you have to have someone, and why would anyone want Delhomme? He had an awsome ground attack and STEVE SMITH and he couldn’t get it done the talent in Clev is way below what Delhome had in Car. I think he is going to be nothing more than a backup for most of the rest of his carreer. And you are right about Philly they could screw everything up for us, But I don’t think McNabb is going anywhere until they get rid of A.Reed he has been and will always be supportive of McNabb, Vick is Vick and I can’t see them getting rid of their other Qb just because he seems to be McNabbs air-apparent. Now in reguards to this class of QB’s being so crappy as you say. Claussen came from a pro-style offence and is going to do better than I want him to( Mich fan here, hate all ND’rs) And if Bradford would have come out last year he would have probably been in drafted over Staff, now I agree with you about McCoy but even Chad Pennington has a place in this league and until he got hurt he was a very good QB, Distance don’t mean shit if you can’t hit the target, Accuracy is more important that strength I would think. i.e. Kurt Warner, he knew how to hit people in stride, T.Brady doesn’t have the strongest arm either, but he is deadly accurate. But again we have to have Clev get rid of the Mighty Quinn(koo koo kachoooo)

Seems like a definite possibility there davis

I think there will be quite a few teams looking to trade up, it just depends on the price I think. Browns could be one of the frontrunners. If we were to trade to the Browns pick as #7, I’d think these players would be avaliable. Maybe McCoy, Okung, Haden or Berry. Seems alright to me.
