Which player gives the Lions more wins next year?

Which  player  gives  the  Lions  more  wins  next  year?                                                                                                       They probably won't take some of these guys unless they traded down.                                                                             But I think this covers all of their options in the first round.

I'd say Spiller...

Not that the Lions would draft him in that spot… because that wasn’t the Question…lol

Spiller would be the player on that list that would consistently touch the ball and have the most opportunities to score…therefore win more games.

Yeah, running back is one of those positions where guys can come in and kick ass right away as a rookie

It has a lower learning curve than a lot of positions.

Hey that's a timeout, I can play right? yeah, get me--get the F-- Help me up...I can throw the ball if you need me to throw the ball...

Say Suh

as much as I like Berry we can solidfy are D line and it will allow are linebackers to do more things than blitz.

SUH

With a solid Dline that can pressure the QB it opens up the LB’s to make plays not to mention takes a ton of pressure off of our average at best corners in coverage. Our poor secondary won’t have to cover guys for 10 plus seconds and get raosted time and time again. Adding Suh and with our current additions we will have a solid line for a long time not to mention the chaos they would cause in the backfield will allow our corners to actually get respectable number of picks. The more turnovers we get the more our offense is on the field possibly running up the score. Defense wins Championships. If you want evidence of that just look at the last super bowl. That pick 6 was what put the nail in the coffin of the Colts.

YKI

YOU KNOW IT! King Kong with the 2 pick and screw it Mayes in the second round He should still be there since most of our POD nation does not think that Safety is that important, then get us a CB or O-line help in the 4th round and later with other CB’s. I still think we can trade down a couple of spots and pick up a extra pick especially with the Browns. So many picks and NO QB, they are going to have to jump in front of Wash to get 1 of 2.

I skipped 3rd round assuming

that wee draft 1 of those positions in the 3rd CB/Oline.

Is this a trick question to get us to argue more about Suh and Berry

I know it’s not lol, just playing around. But yeah I would say Okung or Spiller would help our team win more games immediately, even though I’d definitely rather have Suh or Berry.

Why so low for Berry?

Its true Spiller would get a lot of carries, but there is no guarantee he will be any more successful then K-Smith behind that line. Suh would provide an upgrade over SLH, but it wouldn;t be as much of an upgrade as Berry over Marvin White.

But Kong has all the intangables and no matter how bad I want Berry, NO GM will take a safety over a game changer like Kong and a possible franchise LT in Okung, had McCoy not been such a pussy on the bench press he would be right there with Kong.

Yes, you talking my language now, Davis!

It’s never been about Berry’s ability. It’s about value. And I’ve contended all along that Berry – even though he looks like a great prospect – will give the value that Suh would.

by DrewsLions on Mar 12, 2010 8:18 PM EST up reply actions

I know what you ment bro.

Even if Berry plays for 15 years and is everything I/we think he will be, NO GM can take him over a guy like KONG or a LT when you drafted a QB the year before. I hate it but It’s not my ass on the line it’s his and I don’t think he would have a job come this time next year if he drafted BERRY, unless we do and he comes in and has like 90 tackles 30 pass break-ups 5-10 sacks and 5-10 int’s and I don’t see any Safety having those kinds of stats.

Since this is a post for more wins.

I’m not a fan of taking Spiller so high but, if he came in and ran hard enough he could give us the edge in the running game. Control the clock baby!!

by Quez81 on Mar 11, 2010 6:39 PM EST reply actions

I don't think any of them will produce more wins

It’s a team game, our team needs to improve as a whole. Those players will help that improvement but they won’t accomplish it by themselves.

The Bringers of Hope: Stafford - Delmas - C. Johnson - Pettigrew - Levy - Hill - Schwartz
Zack Follett: he will hurt your mind.

hmmm defend Stafford on the OL or an aggressive DT… hmmm? What guy do I want?

GO LIONS in 2010! the transformation starts now.. they have much to do.

by DINORDO on Mar 11, 2010 7:51 PM EST reply actions

Spiller

but thats short term. as far as long as long term improvement is concerned Suh

by IAmGross on Mar 11, 2010 8:59 PM EST reply actions

I did not vote because more wins next year does not get us where we want to get.

I am looking for long term return to get this team into the playoffs, then to the Super Bowl.
For me that is either Suh/McCoy or Okung. To be honest it will come down to Suh or Okung.

Protect the QB and help the offensive playmakers do their thing or upgrade the league’s worst defence the last three years running? That is our choice.

One thing I will say is that Spiller is probably the second worst pick we could make at #2. Dez Bryant would be worse IMO.

by NorthLeft12 on Mar 12, 2010 7:22 AM EST reply actions

Is Bryant even being conciderd at the #2 spot??????

Say it aint so! Millen isn’t here anymore!

The one that might not be above....

If they trade down they would get more wins then anyone listed above. I did vote for spiller tho.

a great lt is 4wins in the nfl take a loock at mia or cle when they drafted their lt and how manny wins they improved .

by kwfords on Mar 12, 2010 4:58 PM EST reply actions

The player giving the Lions more wins this year, won't be...

drafted this year. That player is Matthew Stafford. Only his progression stands in the way of a significant turnaround in 2010. If he takes it to the next level, this team could win 6-8 games this year. If he struggles again, this team may not win more than 3 or 4 games. The trenches are very important, but a GREAT quarterback CAN elevate an entire team. He is the key to it all. How he goes, so go the Lions.

by DrewsLions on Mar 12, 2010 8:21 PM EST reply actions

Drew

Pending on how far he elivates his game, it is possible we could contend for a playoff spot this year, we are in the NFC for crying out loud. All it would take is one good hit on Rogers in GB early in the season and they would be done or Favre forgets to take his 1 a day plus iron and he could be gone for the season and we could be playoff contenders in our own division. The east will probably put in 2 teams and someone has to go from the west( could be anyone) now that the Cards don’t have Warner, the south will put in 1 for sure 2 if the Falcons rebound from last years disappointment, but again pending Staff, we could be contenders this year.

I think if we can contend ( I hope like hell we could)

It would be for a wildcard. I wouldn’t go as far as saying we could get a bye week. I think Playoffs are alot to ask in year 2 of this mess though.

Same here

But it just seems that every year, a basement team jumps up to win a division and goes to the playoffs.Of course they usually don’t have 2 teams that went to the playoffs the year before.

Well, I didn't mean to infer...

that I thought the Lions would make the “P-word”. The NFC North has really become one of the better divisions in all of football (assuming Favre returns). All of the teams now have good quarterbacks and all aside from Detroit have above average defenses. I think it’s really a long shot to say we’ll take the division with Minny coming off a Championship loss and the Packers making the post-season and the Bears adding players like Peppers… Sigh… let’s just say the Lions have an uphill battle.

Not that I’m trying to be pessimistic in March, but I still contend it’s going to take a few years of good drafting and then for those picks to start to reach their potential before we really push for a post-season spot. I think we can win more games next year, but it would take a small miracle for us to win the North over teams like Minny and GB.

Where I think the Lions are getting it right is with their offseason strategy. I do believe they are building it correctly this time around. Their core is coming from the draft and they are not drafting specifically for need or by becoming enamored with one player… like previous regimes. We can’t compare ourselves to teams like the Falcons and Dolphins, who turned it around in one season. Those teams were different and their divisions made it easier to do that. Remember, the Dolphins did it in a year where the Pats lost Brady (and even then, they only won it in a tie-breaker) and Buffalo and New York were both struggling. The North is gonna be a tough place to play for a few years.
