Around SBN: Newcastle Battle Injury Woes Ahead of Tottenham

...Bored and just have a question/thought

Well... I see Javon Walker is looking to make a comeback into the league...

Yes we signed Nate ..but I dont really like B. Johnson or Northcutt... If we could get rid of one or both of those guys I wouldn't mind seeing Javon Walker given a chance.. I think he could be really cheap because his lack of production over the past couple of years..but just imagine if he comes back 75-90% ...

CJ.. Nate .. and Javon as our three receivers... I think that would be nice...

 Another Note:

My thoughts on Pac Man Jones.

I dont know which way to go on this one... I mean he has character issues..he may be a disturbance in the club house..but if we get rid of northcutt and get javon in the scenario above..he could be added to be a return man ... and depth at the cb position... I think Schwartz could straighten him up.. so a contract with incentives would be crucial... dont throw a lot of money at him unless he produces..

Thanks .. sorry if its not to par...

Not opposed to Walker being picked-up

I wouldn’t cut Johnson for him Javon will get hurt at some point. He almost always does he’s a good player though. I don’t like Northcutt either but I think Derrick Williams can get his spot.

Welcome to the POD the last sanctuary for Lions fans. You won’t be made fun of for being a fan just for your ideas LOL. Just kidding

Walker is D-O-N-E

Maybe he can hitcha ride with the Rams or Browns for a year or two though.

The Lions are growing for the future and a team on the rise—-and have no use for Javon…let alone former Raiders.

Just give me 25 guys on the last year of their contracts; I'll win a pennant every year....Sparky Anderson

I think we should look at drafting a receiver

Not picking up a player looking to make a comeback.

Welcome to the Pride! Your post is fine, there really isn’t much of a standard. Just make sure you bring up topics which we can discuss, and then you should be fine.

The Bringers of Hope: Stafford - Delmas - C. Johnson - Pettigrew - Levy - Hill - Schwartz
Zack Follett: he will hurt your mind.

Agree with HE and footstock both.

All of these 1 and 2 year stop gaps have to stop at some time. I know they are needed to fill a team with a weak position or injury problems, but that is about it. Have to say, I am not happy with Northcutt at all. B. Johnson is o.k., but servicable with all the other needs. If we are to replace Northcutt, I would like it to be with a younger guy or a draft pick, as Hyper mentioned. Hopefully Burleson can help out C.J. a little more than the B.J. and Northcutt did.

We need to develop

Derrick Williams. I’m hoping for some type of break out season at least by 2011, if there is a 2011 season, if not then maybe 2012, if there is a 2012.

Well, my view on this is...

that the Lions – just because we are hurting for talent – shouldn’t be running a charity here. You sign a player because you are sure he can help the team. We just can’t be taking fliers on every has-been in the HOPES that he might resurrect something he once had. I’d rather see a promising rookie or second year player get that playing time.

But I’m also not opposed to adding talent if the risk is calculated. If there is a specific reason that they failed at another stop (like Corey Williams), then it might be worth it. But I have very little faith that Walker and Jones have anything left to give the NFL.

I'll pass

I don’t see how he can possibly be an upgrade over Bryant Johnson. He’s just no the same player he was back in 2004, and having Brett Favre throw you the ball probably had something to do with his success. Why waste another roster spot/money on another has-been?

Bryant Johnson

As poorly as he played last year, there were many times when he was wide open (and I mean WIDE) and Stafford missed him (like by a mile.) I hope that Nate, Bryant, and Calvin can all get their timing down with Stafford. I hope that Stafford can see the field better this next year as he will have a year under his belt with Linehan.

I like...

CJ, Burleson, BJ, and Derrick Williams as our 4 WR. Then draft a WR to be our future no.2 and see where Derrick Williams develops, maybe be a solid slot guy.

Mayhew's strategy-

M n M likes to find talent in the draft, and upgrade the current roster with free agents. A healthy Walker I see as an upgrade, but he hasn’t been healthy in years. If the price is minimal you give him a chance. Pac Man is a loaded gun. He may produce for a few games, but he won’t stay out of trouble. If my memory is correct, his first trouble with the law came while playing for Schwartz’s Titans. While I know I speak for all Lion fans when I say our secondary still needs help, I don’t see Jones as even a stop gap. He would probably get caught crossing the border to Canada with a gun, drugs, and a carton of cigarettes he didn’t declare and wind up in jail. You don’t want to cross those Mounties! In my opinion neither player offers an upgrade to our current players.

I say NO...

Good thought, but Nate is getting older and not that CJ is old but he is not getting younger either. There are a few late round guys I would not mind us taking in the draft. We need some YOUNG depth not OLD depth. A guy we can maybe groom over 2 years like Dallas did with Miles Austin. Saving us from using a high pick in future rounds if Cj leaves Detroit or gets hurt and out for the year or his career.
