ONE WORD-VOL 2
I had got a good response from the POD about Corey Smith and Vanden Bosch thanks guys. It sounds like alot of you were atleast somewhat intrested in the 1st post and it sparked some new conversations the aren't Berry and Suh my exact intention. I felt like making another post already so here is VOL 2. You get ONE WORD to describe the topic and feel free to discuss it as well.
So compared to last year how do you feel about the current Roster with Pitts scheduled to visit and Free Agency winding down were do we stand at right now? I will likey post something similar post draft to see where we stand then as well.
Got the roster off of Yahoo sports.

The best there is, The best there was, and the best there ever will be - Bret the Hitman hart
We got Chris Houston
out side of that we have no counterpart to play opposite of him in a man to man situation.

Houston
He’s an upgrade over previous Lions, but he has a lot of question marks. He definately has the raw athleticsm, but it sounds like he makes a lot of mental errors.

True that
Must still be on the contract the seahawks gave him I would think.

I was in WPNS Co.
I wasn’t with the 81’s though. I agree, much improved, I don’t Nescessarilly think that we will still be an all league bottom feeder, but there are still a lot of gaping holes. I’m mostly concerned about the secondary, if we do draft a rook to put back there, I hope he’ll be able to handle the lack of help (minus Delmas) that he’ll recieve.
I know Hanson is a good kicker,
but why is he getting paid $4 million? That’s more than Stafford, who should be the highest paid player on the team, since he is a first overall QB. And Northcutt should be cut.
I would normally agree but....
Stafford got paid the up front money which is like 40 million, the rest is based off performance and spread over the next 5 years. That is why his pay is low…. He does have the 2nd biggest contract in NFL history.
who's the highest scorer in Lions history??????
He’s worth it for at least this year. Jasons time is almost up let the man get paid for having to kick all those fieldgoal for us for the last decade since our Offence couldn’t punch it into the endzone/redzone.
How many lumps you want Doc?
I agree
I admittedly have an unhealthy reverence for Jason Hanson’s place as a Lion, so I would agree. I don’t care how much he wants… he’s earned it. Pay that man his money.
That $4 million is for one year out of a multi-year deal, as well. I’m assuming the average ends up being a bit more reasonable in comparison with other high end veteran kickers. And if not, well….. Then I would still say pay him whatever he wants until he is no longer capable of playing the game :)
now you know why lions need to drafta left ot like okung real bad if you want stafford to stay alive for whole season.

Needs Work
The Bringers of Hope: Stafford - Delmas - C. Johnson - Pettigrew - Levy - Hill - Schwartz
Zack Follett: he will hurt your mind.
Anyone else pissed
that Corey Williams makes alomst 8 million. We gotta restructure that shit.
http://cmufootball.blogspot.com/
If he can play like he did in green bay
He’s almost be worth it. Yea I agree though that man needs to talk a new deal.

Optamistic
I think Schwartz and company are proving to want to put together a competative team, but not trying to do it all in one year. Finally, a coach that is sticking to a plan.
+10000000
He has a blue print to follow. He isn’t getting away from it either. I love it.

Cherilus, Gosder RT 6-7 318 25 2 Boston College $7,496,370
Johnson, Bryant WR 6-3 211 29 7 Penn State $3,206,370
King, Eric CB 5-10 185 27 5 Wake Forest $2,631,890
vs.
Johnson, Calvin WR 6-5 235 24 3 Georgia Tech $2,586,495
the top 3 wouldnt even be a starter on any other team in the NFL but they all make more than our best player i think calvin needs a better agent cause he has gotten hosed
Lions fan for life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonders how you produce 8 seasons of below .500 football and mange to keep your job as a gm.. here's 1 man wondering what kind of black mail Millen had on the Ford family.
Yes they would
They would all start for more than 1 other team. Maybe not the elite’s but they would start for the RAMS;Bucks;Seahawks;KC;Buffalo;2 of 3 Denver;OAK if they could run faster; 2 of 3 in SF;Cherilous could start for about 2/3rds of the teams in the NFL. And Eric King isn’t as bad as you want to beleave, B Johnson could be a top 3 rec for about 2/3 of the teams in the NFL so get off their ass’s. But because we had a rookie that was running for his life last year and learning how to play the position at this level you want to put the blame on certain guys. Give Staff a chance to grow and you will see that these guys are not as bad as you want to beleave. Johnson didn’t drop 1/2 of the passes thrown to him like the incumbants that were here prior to him(Williams).
How many lumps you want Doc?
this is true but
Shhhh stop the CJ getting hosed posts yes he should make more money but we gotta enjoy him while we can before he wants to pack up and move on to a new team.

WATCHABLE
There have been a few Sundays ( i would turn the TV on at 1:20 and the Lions are down 21-0)
I added Shaun Hill at QB as well

Fucked
If you ask me, I do not see a great deal of improvement that warrants me feeling that we are improved enough at this point to win more than 4 games (and that seems optimistic to me at this point). In all honesty, I think the upcoming season’s success for the Lions will hinge on 1) who we draft, and 2) how well the rookies we draft perform. If we can draft a few key players and fill some serious holes, and those players perform at a very high and impactful level, then maybe we will see some decent success in regard to improvement.
Other one word responses that came to mind for me (at this point) were:
1) Drops
2) Ouch
3) PASS
4) Injured
5) Weak
6) Thin
and last, but not least, 7) PRAY
Drops: I am worried that Burleson will not play as big of a role in the passing game as many people think he will, not to mention his durability concerns. I am worried that CJ, BJ, and BP will be on the field close to as much as they were last season, and that we will continue to see dropped balls and CJ getting doubled, due to a lack of a run game.
Ouch: Unless we draft some starting caliber guards in the draft, or Pitts signs and plays out of his ass, I think the same old shit will be prevalent from pretty much the same personnel on the O-line……I hope that Staff is ready to RUN for his life or get rid of the ball in a hurry, or else we might just see Shaun Hill, and how well he can take a beating, in action.
PASS: With virtually NO upgrades on the O-line or at the RB position, I think we are in for much of the same as last year…..playing from behind and passing the ball A LOT. Our only hope for change, again, rests on whether or not we draft some starting caliber guards in the draft (in my opinion…..ALL of this is in my opinion).
Injured: We saw the injury bug in full effect last season…..and unless we have an outstanding draft, I do not see how it will improve.
Weak: The posted roster looks even weaker than last year in my opinion…..sure we got Burleson, Williams, Houston, Wade, and several guys coming back from IR, but do those additions really make this team that much better by themselves? I say no, because Houston and Wade are both relatively unproven, Williams is a couple of years removed from playing a solid game in a 4-3 D, and it doesn’t matter what WRs we have if there is no run game. All of this, and not to mention the players we have lost, and are losing, does not exactly spell stronger in my book.
Thin: Seriously, there is next to no solid depth on the above roster. We are one injury away from disaster at many of the key positions.
PRAY: Not to bring the whole religion discussion back into play here, but I pray that we will have an outstanding draft (drafting the best players available) and that we will be able to address some key areas to make a serious upgrade to our depth if nothing else. I pray that our players will stay healthy, and that those who are or were injured will recover quickly and greatly. I pray that our young leader (Stafford) will continue to improve and that nothing will happen to shake his confidence. I pray that our front office and coaching staff make all the right and intelligent moves. Lastly, I pray that whatever plan Schwartz and Co has will be executed as close to perfection as possible. If these things do not happen, I think we are in for another long and hard season of heartache and pain.
