The Chiefs Fans Love them some Berry!

The Chief fans at Arrowhead Pride are a pretty dedicated and creative bunch. I visit there often for the humour and excellent writing. Besides, they are going through a rough patch too and it is interesting to see how they deal with it.

Here is the newly formed "The Official Draft Eric Berry Fan Club" link,

http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2010/3/11/1368131/the-official-draft-eric-berry

And here is a picture from CMatthews of Arrowhead Pride to inspire our own Eric Berry lovers [metaphorically only, I'm sure] :

If you guys [by that I mean the Kyle Wilson-Eric Berry Bandwagon Bus Riders] were that creative and dedicated you might win over some converts [and by that I mean converts among Lions fans to select Eric Berry at # 2 and pray for a miracle so that we can draft Kyle Wilson at # 34 or trade up] to the cause.  LOL

Hey... hey.. hey...

Easy sport. Just being funny and I think GRLion knows that. He doesn’t need you to come riding in on your white horse to defend his honor…

I like Eric Berry too. I’ve said that a million times. I like Suh more… but I’m not professing my love for him in every post like GR does for Berry. You do that shit here and you’re going to get razzed. Chill the eff out, dude.

I understand what your saying. I guess I am just losing my mind today. LOL I seem to be reading everything out of context. Consider this an official apology.

I thought that was funny

Cause I am on that Berry Bandwagon as well, and that’s still funny. You can tell GRlion must have laughed at that post from you Drew, otherwise he would have came out swinging. And no not off of Berry’s nutzzzzz.

Berry Is A Good Player....

…..But we need a pass rush more so Suh is the pick.

by BennieBladesFan on Mar 14, 2010 12:01 PM EDT reply actions

I like them equally

But I can’t help but feel that Berry is a little less risky for some reason. Besides, the argument that Suh would improve our pass defense as a main reason to draft him…why not just draft a DB, who would directly impact the pass defense?

by TX Lion on Mar 14, 2010 12:23 PM EDT reply actions

So does a DT that gets up in the QB face....

……If you have the best secondary in football with no pass rush it doesnt matter….Those guys cant cover all day…..If you have a pass rush it makes a average secondary great….Pressure is more important…Suh is the pick.

by BennieBladesFan on Mar 14, 2010 12:38 PM EDT up reply actions

I think the argument is getting old

If we don’t draft Suh, it’s not like we just passed on our only opportunity to improve the d-line or generate a pass rush. We just picked up 2 solid free agents on the line, and have chances to draft even more players with tons of potential.

I think either way we win, regardless of what happens. It’s a great position to be in.

by Nate D. on Mar 14, 2010 1:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Actually no its not getting old....

….you have to have a pass rush…..You could have allpro safties and corners but with no pass rush it doesnt matter.

by BennieBladesFan on Mar 14, 2010 4:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Actually...

You apparently didn’t read the post. I didn’t say you DON’T need a pass rush. I said we picked up two solid players who will absolutely do just that, which gives us the leeway to potentially draft Berry at #2, because we also have the ability to draft a great DT or DE with any of our other picks.

by Nate D. on Mar 14, 2010 4:06 PM EDT up reply actions

It's a combination of both, sir, and as a Bennie Blades fan you should know this

Not one or the other. If you flip your argument you could have, let’s say Jason Sehorn covering Megatron on a flank, with Reggie White and Bruce Smith coming off the edges. 3 seconds of ‘Tron running a 9 route, and it’s a TD. Yes, I’m aware that a good pass rush can make an average secondary look better. But my argument is this: even if we had a good pass rush, our secondary still isn’t good enough to be average.
The problem is our team doesn’t have a good secondary or a good pass rush. At this moment in time, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that KVB and Corey Williams can recapture their old form to address the latter (does anyone really feel comfortable with Hunter and Bryant playing LE?). If we draft Suh, I think we’d be confident that our pass rush would be pretty good, not to mention the benefit of improving our run defense as well.
As for our secondary? Delmas is the only real starter. I feel like our secondary needs more help than our D line, and Berry is the best DB in the draft by far. The reasons I’d feel about equally happy with either Suh or Berry as our pick: 1. We need defense. 2. I believe both of these guys are “can’t miss” talent, the best players in the draft, and they both happen to play defense.

Chiefs have more realistic chance of getting him

then we do. It makes a lot more sense for them to take him at 5 then it does for us to take him at 2, and I’m sure he’ll still be on the board when they pick. I see a top 5 mock looking like this:
1. Rams-Sam Bradford
2. Lions-Ndamukong Suh
3. Buccaneers-Gerald McCoy
4. Redskins-Jimmy Clausen
5. Chiefs-Eric Berry

I personally think the Redskins should take him at 4, but history has shown new head coaches like to get a young QB that they can mold when there is no true established starter. Mike Shanahan says he likes Jason Campell, but I get the feeling he’s probably gonna draft a QB anyways.

by motown313 on Mar 14, 2010 1:34 PM EDT reply actions

I could see Okung going at 4 or 5...

Also could see Berry at 3, just because of his former coaches link to the Bucks. I am sure he is in there ear to take him. Very sold though, with out trades I could see it going this way.

by Joey-P on Mar 14, 2010 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Agree about Okung

but the Bucs need a LOT of help on their D-line. I can’t picture them passing on McCoy.

by motown313 on Mar 14, 2010 3:02 PM EDT up reply actions

What are you guys talking about with the BUCS?

They are going to have the choice between Kong and McCoy since we are going to trade down with one of 3 teams that desperately need to jump in front of the Redskins. The rams are going to get Bradford I’m still thinking either Seattle or Clev is going to go after Claussen in our 2 spot.Washington is going to be in the position to grab McCoy or McCoy or Okung and I think that Okung is going to be thier pick.

Buffalo

is the 3rd team that may try and jump up there, I can’t see them being very happy with their currant QB situation.

Those Arrowhead Pride dudes are pretty cool

I actually think that Arrowhead Pride is the only other SBNation blog that rivals POD. We’re better of course ;)

ithink you are going to be mad when the lions trade out of 2pick with cle for the 7pick and say to 3rd picks and a4rd pick in this draft .that means no suh or berry for lions maybee might have a chance at mccoy at 7pick if sea takes haden or mays at6pick

by kwfords on Mar 15, 2010 1:27 AM EDT reply actions

If all we get is the Browns # 7 and their third and fourth round picks, yes, I will be pissed.

For a move like this to get one of the top two QBs in the class, the only NFL ready “franchise” QBs, they should be giving up their # 7, their second round [# 38] and fourth round [# 102] pick at a minimum.

I hope Mayhew holds them up for more than that. Personally, I think he could get that deal from Washington if they actually want a QB and the Rams have taken one of them at # 1, and they knew that Cleveland or Seattle were trying to get ahead of them. Trading with Washington still gets us a choice of McCoy, Berry, or Okung IMO.

by NorthLeft12 on Mar 15, 2010 9:23 AM EDT up reply actions

Yep, any lower than #4 and you have significant risk of Berry being picked by the Chiefs

From Schwartz:
http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2010/02/lions_jim_schwartz_extra_draft.html

"It’s one thing philosophically to say you’re open to it but before you even go through draft physicals and workouts most of those moves are made with a specific person in mind.

“Whether you keep the second (overall) pick or you trade down, it doesn’t change what you have to do and that’s make good decisions in the draft,” Schwartz said.
“Whether you trade down and get more picks or you move up, it’s more about identifying the players and getting players to fit what you do rather than getting more picks or things like that.”</blockquote>

If Schwartz wants Berry, he won’t risk losing him just to get more picks just for the sake of getting more picks. Like Schwartz says, it’s about WHO you get with those picks. I’m still betting that a deal can’t be made with Washington, and Schwartz/Mayhew stay at #2 and get THEIR guy…….Eric Berry.

nice post and fun reading the awesome comments! post rec'd ...

of course, I had to as I’m an APer, though I’m NOT on the Berrylovers Bandwagon … not that I dislike Berry, just a bit tired of seeing all the Berry Koolaid posts of late (and thus started my own Spoonwagon in protest and satirical mockery)

we start our AP 2-round mock draft tomorrow {{YAY}} and I’m so pumped as the “officially unofficial” GM of the Lions … Suh the overwhelming choice at #2 (assuming he’s there) or Berry by a slim margin over Okung is Suh is gone

more fun, I think, will be to see who’s gone and who’s still around for Round 2 and that choice at #34 overall
