Im gonna go head and call it...
Martin Mayhew for GM of the year with Schwartz coach of the year. We're not even to the draft this year and the Detroit Lions seem vastly improved. I guess its not hard to improve our talentless team but come on he will not be played on any trade. I mean everyone knows the deals that he has made ( so i wont go too in depth) How long was he in the big chair before he sent Roy "dropsies" Williams for three picks, then we got Henry for Kitna which didn't pan out but thats a wash in my book because personally i was over Kitna and his Shar Pei head. Then we get Julian Peterson who I think will come on very strong this year, Peterson Levy Sims with sprinkles of FOLLETT. Should be decent group. Then there is Corey Williams who is a lil expensive but expected to rekindle is beast like form in Detroits 4-3. Then the big news of the day was the Houston Trade with Atlanta which was a 6th and swapping 5th rounders. Pretty much everybody if i remember correctly was ok with this deal. It went through today and were giving 6th and conditional 7th so if Houston ends up being trash we wouldnt have to give them 7th next year. Wowsers he just cant help but try to stiff everyone in the league.
Speaking of stiff i cannot wait for the draft I know that son of a bee sting has something up his sleeve, guaranteed!!! If something happens with that second pick I am guaranteeing nothing less than a wild card this year. You heard it here first March 15th 2010, if the second pick is dealt we will be in playoffs. Im putting all my chips in with Mayhew and Schwartz. Cant help it man Ive got the Honolulu blue fever and the only cure is more Kool-Aid and of course cow bell. You Feeling Me... You Feeling Me!!!! oh and support cat haven.

LOL I KNOW IM DRINKING THE KOOL-AID TOO !!
I think something is going to happen…Trading the #2 down..2nd rounder up for Kyle Wilson. I also see the hawks wanting Tebow and swapping our 2nd round picks for an additional 4th or something. I hope he gets next years 1st rounder involved in this year…that would be a perfect way to get K. Wilson at say 19th and if we trade down to say 7th we could have Haden or a O-lineman…..Guess we will have to stay tuned for details.
Don't get ahead of yourselves guys...
We’re improved, definitely. But I am trying to stay grounded. Our offensive line is still a cheerleader’s row….and Stafford is still in danger of many sacks and rushed throws.
I want to see us win though! So let’s hope you guys are right and I’m just being pessimistic.
GO LIONS! RESTORE THE ROAR!
booooooo!!!!
ha ha just playing, just in good mood after work today and just excited that millen is longer anywhere near this organization.
lets get 5 wins first LOL

MnM perhaps- Schwartz Nyet
I like the call for Martin Mayhew, but not the Schwartz yet. I really have not seen alot out of him on the side line except for overheating. That’s not to say we won’t, but I need to see some win stacked by his name before I start to sing his praise.
As for my man MnM, he’s done more with nothing that any GM. To pull of the trades he’s made with the sorry players we have had over the last 2 years is remarkable. That being said its up to the draft to see how good this off season has been to the Lions and to give MnM his final grade.

One thing I want to know...
Where the hell was Mayhew during the Millen years!? Was he just that annoying voice on Millen’s shoulder or did he also have a big influence in some of those moves that backfired? I’m not sure if anyone outside of insiders would know the answer to that, but if anybody does, please comment.

Millen was hunting at his lodge the whole time...
all of those horrible moves we actually made by MnM, but Millen took the fall. He had a bad streak of like 30 bad moves in a row, but he’s on quite a roll now.
Just kidding; I love MM.
Just give me 25 guys on the last year of their contracts; I'll win a pennant every year....Sparky Anderson
From Mayhews own mouth...
When the Lions decided to promote him and everyone including myself was like NOOOOOO….He said that since Millen has so much power given by Ford. He could only " recommend " players. Millian regaurdless of what anyone or everyone told him picked the player he wanted regaurdless. That he did not deserve to be held to the candle of Millen that Millan simply stood alone in the entire process. If this is true or not who knows but he is done one hell of a job so far and I like what hes doing !!!
Your my boy Mayhew !!!
lololol
Great Kool-Ade post! Keep up that enthusiasm, we’re going to need it come kickoff time.
(Kitna’s Shar-pei head, hahahahah, classic)

Wait for the draft-
I want to see the draft before I predict the number of wins for next year. I hope to see a big improvement in the win column!

The Lions will go as far as Stafford can take them. Period.
Yes, I’m highly encouraged by their offseason acquisitions and cannot wait for the draft. But make no mistake about it, this teams future rests solely on the shoulders of Matthew Stafford.
I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself, so let’s just say ±5 wins next year. I’m just not convinced that they can legitimately compete in the NFC North next year against the likes of Green Bay, Chicago and Minnesota.

I agree though I would not say SOULEY on Staffords shoulders...
If the orginization treats Stafford the way they did B. Sanders then this team will get know where and that will not be Staffords fault. With the new orginization tho, I tend to believe they wont do that tho.
Hey
In my opinion, 7 or 8 wins would be quite an accomplishment.
I suppose the
great thing about having very low standards is that it’s much more difficult to be disappointed.
2-14 and lower
would be the only way we could be disappointed around here…..
How many lumps you want Doc?
Hey if we get 6 - 8 wins im happy...
This team is still VERY YOUNG !!! If we do get that many wins, it also tells me we were most likely competitive in the games we lost…I wanna be able to at least think we have a fighting chance in every game. That alone would be great and im sure we will continue to rise in the win coloum from there.
ha ha
kool-aid and cowbell, can’t beat that combo :)
I agree, I am very happy w/ Mayhew, it’s just feels great to actually have some faith in the leadership. I got to a point in the dreaded Millen regime where I was so apathetic w/ no hope it wasn’t even fun being a fan, since I knew that Millen would keep messing it up worse every year. Feels great to be rejuvenated. I don’t think we’re to a point yet though to be talking playoffs, but our time is coming soon…..
I like this.
I think that they will be ready to make a playoff push this year. Nobody knows how the Lions will play until the draft is over and the season starts. I’m very happy with this team now. We can steal more than a few wins as long as the team can come together and play hard.
You may have been the first to put it on a thred
But I said 3 days ago that we could be a possible wild-card team this year. All we need is for 1 good hit on either Rogers or Favre’s shoulder and we are looking good. But I agree I always think we have a shot. Even the year that Sports Ill had us winning our Division with Charlie BEAAAtch!
How many lumps you want Doc?
I am happy with the moves
but please don’t put a lot of stock in Houston or Wade doint much to shore up the secondary
http://cmufootball.blogspot.com/
I agree Capitol
I think we are going to see one of our first 3 picks going towards CB and I can see us drafting 2 this year with 1 being a starter and the other getting his nose wet in nickle situations.
How many lumps you want Doc?
Good call davis
I see our 2nd and 3rd picks being defensive backfield. I’m hoping for Wilson and Spivey. IMO, that’s a damn solid backfield. Spivey hits like a mack truck, so we could have good cover, and intimidation in the backfield. I’m all over this thought.

WOW
Takes balls guy. I like what there doing too but there are alot of great teams out there. To say wild card in year 2 may leave you dissapointed. The packers are a good team and the vikings (with favre) are a super bowl threat. I’d be happy if we finished at 500.
How do you keep a running back out of your secondary? You put up a LEVY.
I'll call it a GD miracle if we finish 500 or better.......
Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!
I predict the Vikings will make a huge drop off by the 2012 year...
Same for the Bears. Both teams are getting old and with the bears not having a 1st rounder last or this year and minus a 2nd rounder this year there not getting older. There windows are closing and ours is growing. I see in 4 seasons from now us being a major threat for the Super Bowl.
There's still a LONG way to go...
But I think this is the best we’ve looked re-building-wise in a long time. Go Lions!

Corey Williams is a lot less expensive than Suh or McCoy
And I suspect he’ll have more sacks than either of them in 2010, even playing in a 2-gap defense.
