The Good News

When the Lions select Okung with the 2nd pick there won't be any Lions fans at the draft to boo...

Like the Eagles fans did when they drafted McNabb or like the Jets fans did when they drafted Dustin Keller..

Both which turned out to be good picks.

If Schwarts and company think Okung is the pick. He's the pick. We don't know our asses from holes in the ground really. If we did, we would be in the NFL.

I'd boo Okung

but I won’t be at the draft so you’re still good.

by Scotty G on Mar 16, 2010 1:51 PM EDT reply actions

me too

And I’ve seen lots of players over the years that I wanted the Lions to draft, whom turned out better than the ones they picked.

Do you really think Millen was GM because of his vast front-office experience and proven track record………..or because some crazy old car-making family mistakenly thought he might be good?

Everybody’s human. Everybody makes mistakes……some more than others. Everybody who’s ever had a stupid boss knows that he’s not smarter than you, just because he’s the boss.

lets be honest

not a fan of the okung pick. I just dont think there is a option here were mayhew and co. can really screw this up. Mccoy is the only guy that truley has me wooried about picking him right now.

Well said Cappy!

Have to agree with your analysis of our understanding of the NFL and the magical world of player evaluation and team development. Let’s leave it to the guys who get paid to make those decisions.

However, we reserve the right to moan and complain when we don’t get our way, then turn around 180 degrees and cheer wildly in support when it works out for the best. LOL

Bonus points to those who would still say “it would have worked out better if they had done what I proposed”.

So if we sign Pitts...

Where does that put our offensive line? Who’s out in the musical chairs game? We just resigned Petertears to a 5 year deal, Backus is going to be there along with Raiola, Cherilus isn’t going anywhere either… So this whole picking Okung just doesn’t fit, in my opinion. Okung would be a reach, and our team isn’t into reaching.

So

Your argument is that the FO is infallible and can do no wrong so we should all shut up?

What if they use the #2 on a game changing punter? Would be be allowed to boo then?

by ATL Lion on Mar 16, 2010 2:43 PM EDT reply actions

If a guy comes along

That can punt 80 yards into a trash can and consistently kick 70 yard field goals, then I imagine someone will give that a go in the first pick or 2….

Otherwise no amount of hall of fame potential will ever ever ever justify a punter that high.

I really do think it would be cool to see an athlete come along who completely redefines the kicking game.

Millen is the perfect rebuttal to "blindly trust the guys in charge"

Judge them individually……..Millen, Mayhew, Schwartz, Marinelli, Mooch, Morhinwheg, Ross, etc., etc. Some are good, some weren’t. Nobody gets a free pass just because he’s in charge. We of all fans should know this.

lets sea you want the lions to draft a dt whoe a great college player but has had kneesurgery and take a risk that he deosnot get hurt in the pros with 2pick inthe draft didnt we just get rid of a gm whoe pick ed players whoe had knee proleams on defensive .line . ithink ndamukong suh is great player but to munch risk to take a2pick in draft . as for gearld mccoy thier are to many dt in this draft whoe have the same skills as him for me to pick him with 2pick. then you lock at eric berry at ss and if im the lions gm i ask my shelf is worth the 2pick in draft when you have aleast 3players with the skills set as him whoe i can pick later in 2rd . that leave only one player whoe lions shoud pick at 2pick in draft and player is russell okung ot and hear why he will allpro left ot for next ten years and would also would allow the lions to move backus whoe might turn out tobe a allpro guared .

I think Okung should be the pick

We have improved the defensive line and we need someone to block for Stafford.

by Twincities88 on Mar 16, 2010 4:56 PM EDT reply actions

I like Okung...

Just not at #2, I hope we move down, to get him at say #6 or so. If we add Hargrove then I say we take Berry at #2. If were still stuck at #2 and no Hargrove, assuming Suh is there I take Suh.

I think if you boo any player your team just selected

you’re an asshole. I mean, before this guy ever puts on a jersey you, as the fan, are saying “fuck you, we don’t want you.” Seems like a fantastic way to motivate guys to work hard for your team.

by motown313 on Mar 16, 2010 6:10 PM EDT reply actions

Fuck booing at the draft.

Ridiculous.

I’d love to hear the douche who is repping his team from Detroit in downtown NYC explain the boos he gave Louis Delmas last year, for instance.

The entire league and pretty much any fan from another city would be happy to boo your Detroit ass any day. Why boo the kid your team just selected?

You never know how a rookie is going to eventually pan out.. so save the boos.

You are right

Booing a draft pick in person is an asshole move.

Booing a pick at home is my right as a fan.

I won’t say I never booed a pick (I recall having strong feelings about the Williams pick last year), but you are right; booing a kid to his face before he even gets your teams jersey on is a dick move.

by ATL Lion on Mar 16, 2010 7:49 PM EDT up reply actions

I think it's fine to show disappointment

But once a player is a Lion, you should support him. Sure, if you have a legitimate concern about the player’s performance, than yeah, rant about it. But I don’t think anyone should just hold a grudge and look for reasons to berate a player we should be supporting.

I agree CapitolLions...

I have my opinions on who I would like to see drafted. And opinions are based on. Watching player A in a few games on TV. What player B did in the combine. But thats as far as it goes. I dont invite player A over to my house for dinner, so we can talk football. I dont go to his house and watch him in person perform certain drills. I dont watch hours and hours of game film on him.

I believe this FO and coaching staff have a plan. And when our 1st pick is announced. I will be thinking. “Okay I like it. I see why we drafted him.” " What esle you got for us, Mr Mayhew?"
