Capitol I think you know what your talking about as well, but Coaching staff I think should be a little higher B+ to A-; I love our 3 coaches.I think our offencive line is C average straight up. Not the D+ that you gave them, I know alot of our guys here hate Backus and the entire Left side of the line but there is little talk about the right side our the C position so you should give the line a little better grade than D+. B- might be a stretch since after our starters we have pretty much no depth so I might go just a little bit lower like somewhere around the C average. If we were talking starters only I’d give them a B+.Punt/Kick returners should be a little higher assuming that Burrelson is going to be our PR and I think Brown is better at KR than your giving credit; Somewhere in the C area as well.

Huh? They won 2 games last year.

…. As for the rest of your post… the thread is about the current state, not what the future holds.

The only Bs I would give would be the WRs… Every other position and coaches are at a C or below. To think otherwise is foolish.

Special teams sucked, Defense sucked, Running game sucked, etc.

Look what our coaches inherited

They inherited a terrible team. I give them an A for at least keeping us in games and not have us completely blown out each and every week.

Funny...

I gave them a C for winning 2 games.

by CLF on Mar 18, 2010 1:24 PM EDT up reply actions

If that's the case

Then you should say or QB position is a D- as well cause staff was a rookie and threw too many int’s that caused us too loose. Our FO is doing a hell of a job and should be looked at what they have done so far in 1 years time after taking over the worst franchise in the league! Even worse than the RAIDERS!

QB position was a D-

Culpepper got a big’ol F and Stafford brought that up by getting a C-

Before / after

Wide Receivers c- / B+ (Calvin A- overall grade)

RUNNING BACKS C- / C- (TBD changes to come)

Coaching Staff / Ownership B- / B+

Punter/Kicker B- / B-

Linebackers B- / B-

Tight Ends/Fullbacks C / B-

Quarterbacks C- / B-

Defensive Line D- / C- (Changes to come?)

Offensive Line D+/ D+ (changes to come?)

Secondary Z- / C- (TBD changes to come)

Punt/Kick Returners D / C- (TBD Burleson does return kicks and another year of exp.)

We are definitely better… with the changes to come means they should be addressed in the draft .. the team is now mddle of the road.. the Lions on paper could average a C-/B- after the draft… We will see!!!!

GO LIONS in 2010! the transformation starts now.. they have much to do.

I dont share your optimism about the secondary lol

after the draft we both hopefully are wrong..

if Berry comes in …. B+….in the secondary

if the Lions get Dorsey B- (who is in the wrong defense in KC) for a “lesser pick than Suh” (it could happen) DL could become a (with Suh B+?) or A- … with experience by the end of the season (one of the strongest line in the NFL (kool aide)

Who could be better Dorsey or Suh?

And very good point about Burleson. I forgot he is a returnman

I should have given them a tiny boost

A few too low actually..

Coaches should get a solid B. They have done well and cant really be judged till there is enough talent on the team. D-Line I would have gone higher, probley C+ since we havent seen them play but after who they picked up, there much closer to a 15th ranked line vs a last place line. QB, I know he was just a rookie and has some growing to do….His line is not helping him, only having CJ last year was not his fault and loosing KJ who was not that great in the first place did not help. He is only going the be better this year and hopefully the will inprove the line and get a better RB and with Burlenson on board he should have more targets. Add in a hopefully healthy pettigrew and he should have gotten at least a + for his potential. Other then those 3 things I fully agreed

by Joey-P on Mar 17, 2010 5:52 PM EDT reply actions

I think QB is a little higher

The D line upgrades might make it a C+ or a B-. Most of are return game problems I think were coverage so I dunno if I’d rank it that low its hard to judge. Burrelson is a punt returner and a quite good one too so maybe grade that a C.

How do you keep a running back out of your secondary? You put up a LEVY.

by The Profiler on Mar 17, 2010 8:59 PM EDT reply actions

Put the crackpipe down

Wide Receivers B (Megatron A ~ The rest a solid D) = C+

Coaching Staff A- (Making the best of the diahrea millen left them)

Punter/Kicker C- (2 old guys that are on the decline) count the easy misses

Linebackers B+ (even without Foote-to-mouth disease we are solid here

Tight Ends/Fullbacks B- (Pettigrew is a stud with solid backups)

Quarterbacks B+ (With exception to the 3rd stringer of course)

Defensive Line C+ (Huge improvements here and more to come folks)

Offensive Line F (GOD HELP US PLEASE THANKYOU, AMEN!!!)

Secondary D- (DID YOU NOT SEE ANY GAMES LAST YEAR?) 1 stud 0 help

Punt/Kick Returners C (BYE MICHELLE KWAN) He was horrible!!!!!

I am just going on past perfomance with a glimmer of hope that the newbies bring. The kool-aid is starting to taste mighty fine.

B+ Quarterbacks?

really?

by CapitolLions on Mar 18, 2010 10:14 AM EDT up reply actions

A couple are off.

Our D-line is probably more like a C+, and you’ve got to give Staff and Hill more credit then a C. He might not have played like a pro-bowler his rookie year, but a LOT of teams wish they had a Matthew Stafford.

Well this is the grades I would give them

Wide Receivers C+

Coaching Staff B

Punter/Kicker C+

Linebackers B

Tight Ends/Fullbacks C+

Quarterbacks C+

Defensive Line C+

Offensive Line D

Secondary D

Punt/Kick Returners D

Clarifying

WR: We have CJ who is A+ potential but has not lived up to it yet, his numbers are at best C for a #1 receiver, with Nate here now we have a solid #2 but again he is at best better than average based on past performance. At 3 and 4 we have Bryant Johnson and Derrik Williams many teams have stronger performers there.

Coaching: Yeah there is a lot of making the right moves going on, but we still only had 2 wins last year. IMO we should have had wins against the Rams, and possible upsets with Seattle and Pittsburgh. So I am not ready to crown them just yet.

Punters/Kickers: Solid veterans but these guys will not make any pro bowls.

Linebackers: The obvious strength of our team. It says a lot that we can let a guy like Foote go.

Tight Ends: Pettigrew is poised to become a dominant anchor at TE if he stays healthy and Heller is a solid compliment to him.

Fullbacks: Decent but under utilized. Felton is a better receiver than used by the coach last year but needs work in both run and pass blocksing.

Quarterbacks: Stafford showed guts and flashes of brilliance but lets not forget that he had 2 injuries, more Ints than TDs, and a 5 int game. Hill as good a backup as you will find in the league and a huge upgrade over Culpepper and Stanton.

Devensive Line; KVB is going to be above average and Hunter and Avril are solid ends. Williams is above average and Hill is solid but none of them had superstar years last year.

Offensive Line: Lets see, our QB was beat up, our RBs got about 3.5 yards per carry, yeah these guys suck. Backus better perform this year, I don’t want to hear some excuse about being injured, Peterman is solid, Cherilus is on thin ice, he needs to get consistent and be able to hold off someone like Kampman or Allen without getting owned every other down. LG has a gaping hole that needs filled and I don’t know how the hell Raiola keeps his job every year. On the plus side they signed Jansen back and if they actually start him he is probably their best lineman. I know he is old but for gods sake stop playing guys that suck just because fans and coaches like them as cheerleaders (Raiola).

Secondary: This is up in the air, but on hey on the plus side it cant be any worse than last year. Get a shutdown corner and solid starters to compliment Delmas and this group can turn around fasater than people think, especially if the D line steps it up.

Returners: I did overlook Nate so should have graded a bit higher but Northcutt needs to step up. If he could just perform a little better it would help the receiving and return core, however right now I think an undrafted rookie could out perform him this year.

A few too high...

WR: C-
CJ makes this group strongish, but unless Burleson becomes a solid #2 I just don’t think we are good enough.

Coaching Staff: C
Schwartz is a champ but in the end, we still only have 2 wins. The potential is there though.

Punter/Kicker: B-
I still believe in Hanson, he just had an off season. Harris is decently solid.

Linebackers: B
A position of strength. Sims and Peterson are solid and Levy has a lot of potential.

Tight Ends/Fullbacks: B-
Pettigrew gives us some young talent and Heller isn’t terrible. Felton is a solid fullback.

Quarterbacks: C+
Purely on potential. Stafford is our man of the future. Hill looks to be a strong backup.

Defensive Line: C
Still needs work. I think we lack a true playmaker on the line. That’s where Suh/other DT/other DE comes in. Vanden Bosch, Williams, Hill, Avril are all ok starts, but we need someone who can get to the QB.

Offensive Line: C-
A huge hole at LG and a lack of youth brings the unit down. Cherilus struggled last year and Backus is merely decent. Peterman was solid but we need to solidify the line better than we are.

Secondary: D+
Delmas is pretty much all we have here. We must get at least 2 draft picks in this area.

Punt/Kick Returns: D+
I can’t remember the last time we scored a return TD.

2010 Wests Tigers : Current record - 1-0 : Current Position - 8th : Last game - Defeated Manly Sea Eagles 26 -22
