Represent Your Team in MHR's Live Mock!

Hello, my name is Ernesto J. Ruiz and I am a staff writer for Mile High Report – SBNation’s Denver Broncos’ blog.  As some of you may already know, I will be moderating a live interactive mock draft over at MHR this upcoming Sunday starting at noon EST.  As of the time of this post, we are still looking for volunteers willing to represent the remaining available teams.  I am publishing this here today because your team is among those currently without representation.  You are free, however, to represent any of the available teams – if you so desire.

You should know that this will be our second live mock of the offseason and that the original was a resounding success!  I have since revised the process, hopefully for the better; the details of the event are all available (link: here).  If you are still interested in joining us after reading through them, then I ask that you sign-up by claiming a team in the comments section of that post.  I thank you for your time and attention, and hope to hear from you soon!

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Pride of Detroit or its writers. FanPosts are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable fans.

Don't F-up and take Okung!!!!!

Do your homework so we don’t get screwed in the later rounds, the first 2 should be easy enough but after that if you don’t do your homework then we might get screw’d. Not that these players are actually going to be signed but you know what I’m saying.

oh 3 rounds

That’s cool, you can do good without really even studying for that. Let us know who slips in terms of the bigger names so we can talk about something other than Suh/Okung/Berry around here.

Contingency trade posted on milehighreport

I posted the follwoing contingency trade offers for the upcoming live draft on milehighreport.com. It is a 3 round draft.

Since it’s a deep draft, I was aggressive and deviated from the trade value chart to attempt to get more picks. All are contingent on Suh being taken #1.

  1. Trade down with top 7 teams for exchange in 1sts and a 2nd
  2. Trade down with top 12 team for 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

I think the Lions would do it. What do you think?

sounds great...

…if you can find a team willing to take it. Giving up a second rounder to move up five spots seems like a steep price.

In THIS draft I agree!

but if you need a QB, you need a QB right? This trade would give them a choice of Bradford or Claussen.

Any predictions on how the top 5 picks will go in this mock?

I’ll take a shot at it. Based on what they’re saying on each website………
Nobody in the top 5 will trade down, because everybody else in the top 5-7 will also want to either trade down or stand pat. Nobody in the top 5-7 will want to trade up.
(important note…..these are predictions of who the SB bloggers will pick, NOT who the teams themselves will pick……important distinction)

1. STL-Bradford
2. Lions-Suh
3. TB-McCoy
4. WAS-Okung
5. Berry

The 313 Missile Squadron: Delmas, Berry, Wilson, Houston......seek and destroy!

LOL, I have the LIONS taking Berry......but I don't have Footstock taking Berry with the Lions' pick

Important distinction.

While we’re on that subject, there have been comments casually thrown out here recently that Kyle Wilson (and maybe Devin McCourty) will be taken much earlier than #34, maybe even in the mid 1st Round. I suspected that such talk may understandably be a product of his fine Senior Bowl Week and Combine and underrated Fiesta Bowl performance, but also due to Schwartz’s comments about him and the (IMO, vaild) high opinions that many here have of Wilson. So I did a little checking around to some other SBNation sites to see if those fans thought as highly of Wilson as we do here. While his stock has risen since mid-December, he is not the consensus choice of the fans of the 3 teams mentioned most often as the biggest threats to take him.

The Houston Texans fans at #20 seem to prefer Texas safety Earl Thomas, and would only want Wilson if they could trade back to #28-#30.

The Arizona Cardinals fans at #26 seem to prefer OLB Sean Weatherspoon of Missouri. Wilson isn’t even on their radar. They seem more concerned with getting an OLB to replace Carlos Dansby through the draft, rather than using the pick to replace safety Antrel Rolle. CB doesn’t seem to be a popular priority for them.

The Minnesota Vikings fans have mentioned both Wilson and CB Devin McCourty, but feel both will need “coaching up”, since both are better as man cover CB’s, and the Vikings fans want guys who can play zone (hmmmm……any teams that WANT man cover CB’s?……the Lions!) There is no consensus, other players have been mentioned, and even taking a CB in the 2nd is a popular alternative. Even if they go for Wilson at #30, like I’ve said before, the Lions only have to trade up 5 spots to #29 to get Wilson……very doable.

This mock draft, among others out there, will be a good test of one thing……where fan loyalties are. It will also prove what I’ve said before….60 guys can’t get picked in the 1st Round, despite hearing 60 different names mentioned as “1st-Rounders”. It’s time to crunch some numbers, and see who falls where. Of course, these are just the fans picks. The fans don’t make the pick on Draft Day. The media doesn’t make the pick, either. The teams make the picks……..at #20, at #26, at #30………and at #2 and #34. It will be enlightening to a degree, but it definitely should be taken with a grain of salt.

I'm impressed.

You really did your research, GRLion. The one comment I would make is in regards to the Cards, I’m assuming since they signed Joey Porter today that drafting a OLB is no longer at the top of their list. I’m guessing they hope that Earl Thomas is still on the board when they pick, but if he isn’t, a Rodgers-Cromartie and Kyle Wilson pairing at CB looks like some kind of good, and would give them one of the best CB tandems in the league (assuming Wilson pans out, of course.)

I would be ecstatic if we could get Wilson at 34 if it works out that way, I’m just not big on getting my hopes up. You never know how it’ll all go down on draft day.

I SO appreciate your comment about 60 1st rounders

I have been doing the math too; and it makes me realize truthfully how deep this draft is. I am thinking you can get 4 star talent for about 40 picks.

WOW!!!

You were right on here. The Vikings took McCourty and we got Wilson #34. Many of your other comments proved to be true as well. Gotta love GRLion!

Yes

but I’ll say again that it’s highly doubtful he’ll fall to us in real life. NFL GM’s know how good a prospect is. As somebody commented on MHR during the draft when you took him, there is no way in hell the Eagles will let him fall past them after parting ways with Lito Sheppard. I would love it if he did fall to us, but he’s just too good for FO’s to ignore.

Funny, and Ironic

After I’ve been saying for months that the actual teams make the decisions, not the media, not the fans…….after saying to ignore the media hype, that the draft is not a popularity contest, that the Lions (and others) will take the players that THEY want………

After another of my predictions proved correct, to suggest to me of all people that the actual teams will draft differently is ironic. I’ll absolutely agree, the draft is not a popularity contest and the teams (the ones who actually make the decisions) will make different choices in many cases……including possibly drafting Eric Berry at #2. Thanks for proving my point.

As for Wilson, the teams with the biggest holes at CB seem to be HOU, ARI, MINN. On Draft Day, we’ll have to sweat out those picks, or trade up (possibly to #29). We’ll see what happens.

I am not sure about the STL pick

As it’s not coming from an STL fan, but rather from someone from MHR. I tried to research his comments but found nothing where he stated an opinion on the Rams.

I think maybe I will take j16947’s advice and take Tebow #2 just to piss somebody off. lol.

It went...
  1. Bradford
  2. Suh
  3. McCoy
  4. Claussen
  5. Okung to Buffalo

Buffalo traded up to try and get a QB, but it backfired when they were both gone. Why they would trade up and think the Rams and Washington weren’t going to take the 2 QB’s I have no idea.

Berry went #7 to Cleveland

Whoever was running Buffalo was an idiot...lol

They traded up to #5, gambling that their guy would be there when they picked in that position? That is a perfect example of why we are in a great position to trade down. NFL GM’s would not make that same mistake.

Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!

Here's a current New York Giants community mock draft that has that exact top 5
