A former starter than will provide solid depth...
In the event that someone gets injured and the Lions are forced to shuffle their LBs.
Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!
However...
He was a STUD at Cincinnati…Landon Johnson started at BOTH MLB and OLB for the Bengals over 4 years…and he was their leading tackler 3 out of 4 years he played for them. There was nothing wrong with him when he became an UFA in 2008, when he was signed by Carolina. He took a hard shot to the helmet from his own teammate in the 08-09 Divisional playoffs, but he was not a starter for the Panthers for some odd reason.
He is relatively young at age 29, and he is 6’2" 232lbs. Maybe the Panthers thought he was too small to fit their scheme? Their starters were Jon Beason, James Anderson, and Na’il Diggs. None of the starters were much bigger than Johnson. The problem wasn’t that he was slower than the others either. Landon Johnson has the ability to play all 3 linebacker positions…and his versatility is the main reason I believe we signed him, for depth.
And now for the real problem…
Likely the main reason that Landon Johnson was released by the Panthers is the fact that he suffered a season ending knee injury in 2009 (http://espn.go.com/blog/sportscenter/post/_/id/4180/at-this-hour-6p-et-brian-kelly-jason-elam-landon-johnson)
The Carolina Panthers have lost another linebacker to a season-ending knee injury. The Panthers placed Landon Johnson on injured reserve Tuesday and signed linebacker Jordan Senn. Johnson hurt his medial collateral ligament in Thursday’s loss to Miami in his second start at weakside linebacker after Thomas Davis was lost for the season
And this from Rotoworld (via Andy Simms on Twitter):
Lions signed LB Landon Johnson to a one-year contract.
Johnson has the ability to play all three linebacker positions, although he doesn’t do anything particularly well. He’ll be strictly a backup in Detroit.

Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!
What about the Carolina Defense...
Made him suck so bad?….lol
And speaking of linebackers… Check out this one KDawg… listened to this kid on Sirius.. Tim and Pat were grilling him.
Runs a sub 4.5 40….. He’s 250+… would be a great outside linebacker.
+He’s a Junior…. so the lions throw him on special teams instantly and then gets groomed behind peterson.
I thinking 3rd round pick.
Interesting
I have heard his name before here somewhere…
I will be happy as long as we get a group of solid prospects. I hate it when they draft a guy and I say “WHO”?!?!?!
Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!
Interesting
Schwartz wants this team to get bigger and more physical, and Worlids looks like he could have good speed as a blitz LB. A late-round possibility.
Honorary Driver of the Kyle Wilson Bus and Keeper of the Dreadlocks!
The 313 Missile Squadron: Delmas, Berry, Wilson, Houston......seek and destroy!
Hey, as long as Zack Follett keeps hitting people, he can rap to Barney the Dinosaur for all I care.
His highlights on Youtube...
Weren’t all that impressive… I saw an undersized DE that got manhandled on runs.
I now think he’d be a steal in the 4th round and be a perfect ST player as he transitions to the LB position.
Alot of speed and alot of good moves… just too small to play with his hand in the dirt.
Worlids played mostly DE for the Hokies...
so he is raw, but good. A very good verticle jump. I like Dekota Watson, FSU Alittle smaller but still with good size. But he can hit
if the shoe fits...get another one just like it - George Carlin
I hope we at least give him a chance
to be more than just a special teams guy. It seems weird that he got cast into that role in Carolina despite his success in Cincy.

Just a rotation like last year would suffice
Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!
Not talking about a chance to start necessarily
Just a chance to be in the rotation, especially if we mess around with putting in J Peterson at DE opposite KVB on passing downs or something.
