I'll Just Leave This Here

Ahhhh, the Mid American Conference...The place where you get three types of great college players..

1) The kid with character issues that the big schools wont take a chance on. Randy Moss.

2) The kid that wants to play QB when he clearly isn't one. Josh Cribbs

and

3) The kid that has no friggin' idea that he even should be a football player and ends up being a stud. Antonio Gates

There there is this guy. Jameson Konz. He is something else. A physical monster who really never has been placed in a postion he couldn't handle. Take a minute to read this NFP article and tell me you don't want a kid like this on the Lions.

Of course you do.

Interesting

With the check downs in the Linehan’s offense, this guy could make an impact. But we have an explosive player already in Aaron Brown.

Well

we POTENTIALLY have an explosive player in Aaron Brown.

And it looks like the Browns are the only ones that really know about this kid.

If he can learn to pick up

the Blitz, and learn his routes……..he wouldnt leave the field. LOL

I think we give brown waaay too much credit

Sure, hes got speed, he can catch the ball a little bit, but thats about it. He has a lot of potential, but we really haven’t seen that “explosive” playmaking last season. In my mind, we still need playmakers, and if they come cheap, then take them, you can never have too many anyways….just ask the Saints

I think he got all of his credit from the preseason

off of one play. I still love the guy, and think he can develop into a playmaker.

The Browns are the only one who have worked him out officially so far

I am sure he gets more workouts before the draft

I'm not sure

Anyone is capable of flying under the radar anymore. With blogs, social sites, youtube; the bears drafted that d-lineman who jumped out of the swimming pool. It just comes down to what the scouts perceive in the player, and how he fits in your scheme.

Don't quite agree

The players who are physical freaks get noticed immediately like the above mentioned guy, but there are plenty of players out there that lack that elite physical attributes, but still make great NFL players. These players are usually not noticed by blogs/the web, and those are the players scouts get for teams

why not move back to lb or use him as wr or te might be a good late rd pick in 7rd.

His speed and size would make him a huge version of Steve Tasker

Which is welcome on any team.

I love guys with versatility

like his physical traits

but it concerns me that he’s only played on the offensive side of the ball for one year. His height, speed and vertical seem to lend him to WR, but if he has that little experience offensively then I have a very hard time believing he could consistently catch the ball at the NFL level, especially from a guy like Stafford who throws lasers. We don’t need two Bryant Johnsons.

I actually feel bad for him, in that his coaches didn’t identify his physical abilities and place him in a more appropriate position from day one. If he had played WR his whole college career, he’d probably be a third rounder. I doubt he has the lower body strength to be a RB in the NFL either, though I could be wrong about that. Maybe he could bulk up and play LB again, but I’m gonna assume if he had been a stud LB people would have heard about him already.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I would have to watch film of him to give you a good opinion.

Read his scouting report on NFP

And it pretty much confirms my suspicions. They have him as a FB, but here’s the jist:

“doesn’t generate any power from his lower half on contact. He has a tendency to stop moving his feet on contact and struggles to get any kind of push”.
This confirms, to me at least, that he likely will never be able to be a RB in the NFL. You can’t be an NFL back if you just stop anytime you take contact.

“He possesses only average hands and will drop some catchable throws. He is still learning how to run routes and has a tendency to round off his breaks and drift into routes prematurely. He isn’t sudden and struggles to cleanly change directions. He lacks a great understanding of coverages at this time and struggles to find soft spots to sit down in.”
This doesn’t mean he can never be a WR in the league, but it means he will be a serious project, as in he’ll probably be on the practice squad for at least a couple years before he’s actually able to line up at wideout in an actual NFL game.

So, based solely on this report, my verdict is that he’s not worth a fifth round pick. There will be players when we pick that may be able to contribute from day one, and as I said, this guy looks like he’s at least a couple years away from being able to play in the pros. He would be a good seventh, and maybe even sixth round pick, but in the fifth you are really reaching for a project of this magnitude.

Big WR or fast TE who can't block.......but interesting

He’d give us a different look from Pettigrew, but don’t expect much in the way of run-blocking or max protect in the passing game.

He is what he is. He has an interesting mix of skills.
