Spam Problem

PrintAs you all have probably noticed, some dbag has been spamming the entire network relentlessly, especially here on POD in the last week or so. So far I have simply been deleting the spam after it is posted and banning the username, but I'm getting beyond annoyed with it. As a result, I have instituted a 1-day waiting period for new users, meaning they have to wait 24 hours to post anything. I would rather not do this since I'm sure people want to start posting right away when they sign up, but for right now this is the best way to combat the spam problem since I can just look at the members list and ban the spammers before they actually post anything.
Just an FYI...
UPDATE: One more FYI, if you sign up for the site I can activate the membership so you don't have to wait the full 24 hours. I just realized that as I looked at how provisional memberships work.

I haven’t really noticed much over at Acme Packing Company to this point.
Also, very little from Bleed Cubbie Blue. Any ideas as to what websites he has been targeting the most, besides POD?
Who cares if he's a Cubs fan? This is a football forum! He is a PACKER fan as well. So, from now until March, I’m sure he’ll dedicate a lot of his time here. In late March, then we can be enemies during the baseball season. Besides, the Cubs have perhaps the most loyal baseball fanbase in the country. You have to respect that.

we been getting hit pretty hard....
it migh be the amount of post we have here. The spammers might just be hitting the sites with the most traffic.

check out some of the other sites...
I went to the Raider site once. Their recent fanpost was two days ago with 12 comments. After the Shaun Hill trade. I went to the Niner Nation. It took four hours before a fanpost was up. Hell, if we get a whiff of a roster movement. Bam! eight fanpost 50 comments.

i dont really understand what you are trying to ask but
i would say we get a good(or bad how ever you look at things) 10 – 15 spams a day

I haven’t seen anything like that at APC or BCB. Hardly any chance of it happening at APC, seeing as that site has very little traffic. BCB, I really haven’t noticed anything in the way of spam.

Al implemented the 24-hour waiting period a few days ago I believe
Obviously it has been working lol. As far as which sites have been targeted, just look at all the ones this user signed up for: http://www.sbnation.com/users/yahoo456
Seems like those have been the most common.

I don’t remember if it was 24 or 48 hours, though.

I guess that's why there hasn't been any spam over there then

I just reached Adam T from Windy City Gridiron to let him know yahoo456 is on WCG as well. I hope he can do something quick in order to prevent the spammer from filling up WCG as well.
