Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Imagine This

With Delmas and Houston in the defensive backfield, I think the Lions should trade the 2nd overall pick for a late 1st rounder, second rounder, and a third rounder.  They should then take Patrick Robinson & Kyle Wilson with their first 2 picks, and take Chad Jones in the 3rd.  That would give us a defensive backfield with everyone who has a shot at starting having dreadlocks.  They could get a nickname like the "Dreaded D-fense".  Comment your ideas about this, or possible nicknames for that.

I like the idea of the trade

even if we could get just wilson and robinson I’d be happy with that draft.

How do you keep a running back out of your secondary? You put up a LEVY.

Houston is going to be a joke

By week 8 we will all be calling for his head

Falcons didnt have a DLine

Houston had to cover longer than he should have.If Detroit takes a DT,Lions should be able to get pressure on QBs ,making the secondary better.

outside of Abraham

They really wern’t very effective. I would love to see Houston become a solid starter he just dosen’t have stats to back that up right now.

upside?

When you’re hoping a player realizes their potential, or has a lot of “upside,” you’re taking the cross-your-fingers-and-pray type of personnel decision.
In the example of Houston, you’re looking at a guy who certainly has all the physical tools to compete in the league, but having said that, why then hasn’t he been a starter? If he was a true starter, wouldn’t he have already been one? Sure the “potential” exists that he’ll figure our how to use his physical tools the right way, but based on the evidence so far, he hasn’t. It’s a coin-flip.

by TX Lion on Mar 21, 2010 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions

A couple of reasons.

1) Atlanta has had some good corners, talent wise they could be considered among the top teams with corner tandems. He is not the only underachiever there.

2) Why do corners keep leaving Atlanta. You have to ask yourself why they want out of there so bad, what is this like the 3rd or 4th corner in the past 5 years to bolt from their team that was a high draft pick. Something there is wrong for these guys, lack of a pressure from the defensive line, coaching scheme, something.

by Evilsmurf on Mar 22, 2010 1:25 AM EDT up reply actions

Houston was a starter in Atlanta

He started 37 games in three years, and the only games he didn’t start he was hurt with a hamstring injury.

oh my bad!

I got him confused for Jonathan Wade, I need to pay more attention, thanks for the catch

by TX Lion on Mar 22, 2010 2:48 AM EDT up reply actions

so disregard above regarding Houston

But the same principle would apply for other dudes

by TX Lion on Mar 22, 2010 2:49 AM EDT up reply actions

Wade is a project...

Sometimes guys just need a change of scenery. They get in the dog house (are you listening Aaron Brown) and they never get a chance to prove they can play.

I think (and hope) that this is what happened to wade.

Now go find a team that will trade up and lose those picks…

Bosley takes hair from one area and puts it on top

Based on where they would have to take it from, we could then nickname him “scrotum head!”

does anybody remember 2004?

the lions moved down only 1 spot, and received a high 2nd rounder as compensation. even if you think thats a lot of compensation, thats still a heck of a lot closer than moving down, potentially 20+ picks for a 2nd, 3rd. ive seen some crazy scenarios on here where we are so desperate to give our pick away that we damn near pay them to take it! unless its a pair of firsts, or something like that, stick with suh/mccoy or for those who dont agree with those 2, berry/okung.

by haywood on Mar 21, 2010 8:09 PM EDT reply actions

lol

How about Suh/Berry?

I agree with you. If we move down, it should not be more than 4 or 5 slots, and we should get a minimum of a 2nd rounder in return (I want CLE to cough up a 2nd and a 3rd or 4th for a swap of pick 2 and pick 7…and we would still have a shot at Eric Berry).

I would hope

they’re not paying Delhomme as much as they are to ride the bench. Makes sense to me.

by motown313 on Mar 21, 2010 11:51 PM EDT up reply actions

That is a big mistake on Holmgren's part

Jake Delhomme is all done….mark it down. They would do better with Quinn at the helm.

There is nothing saying that the Rams will not draft Suh, so i still believe there is potential for the Browns to move up to get Bradford.

Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!

by KDawg on Mar 22, 2010 10:08 AM EDT up reply actions

Yep

Delhomme had more talent last year around him in Carolina then he does this year with Cleveland. I have no idea why they thought he would suddenly improve.

by motown313 on Mar 22, 2010 5:32 PM EDT up reply actions

I was thinking the same thing about trading up to get Wilson

It seems the draft is deep enough in later rounds that we could afford to lose our position in the 2nd to move enough in the 1st to land Wilson. I like the trade.

by TX Lion on Mar 21, 2010 10:15 PM EDT reply actions

If we can't get Wilson...

We can get McCourty or Patrick Robinson. So why lose a pick when you will get a good corner?

Wilson looks good, but he isn’t a Deion Sanders type of can’t miss that you have to trade up and get. If he was, he would be off of the board before Haden.

Not even haden is a Deion Sanders caliber player…

Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!

by KDawg on Mar 22, 2010 10:09 AM EDT up reply actions

He's better in some ways

Deion was infamous for not even attempting tackles when he should have, and Wilson is a physical corner, the type that Schwartz likes. Of course he won’t have the cover skills of Deion, but that’s like saying C.J. Spiller isn’t gonna have the quickness of Barry Sanders. It’s not really fair to these guys to compare them to HOF’ers.

I want to draft hall of famers

lol…just like the steelers in the 70’s when they drafted 4 hall of famers in one draft.

Let’s do that this year boys!

by footstock on Mar 23, 2010 7:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I think we need secondary help but it's all going to be useless if the line isn't good

If the line is average, it’s going to be hard to have better than average coverage, no matter who you have back there.

The same is true on offense. If the line is average, it’s not going to matter who we have back there (unless it was Barry Sanders), we won’t lead the league in rushing.

If we don’t build the lines first, we’re just going to be disappointed when all these top calibur guys suddenly don’t look so good back there for us because there is no pressure. Leigh Bodden and Andre Goodman are prime examples of guys who looked like absolute crap for the Lions and then went on to be impact CBs for other teams.
