Lions Get Suh - Kyle Wilson - Jon Asamoah in MHR Live Mock

Today was the 3 round mock draft at milehighreport.com. Most of the 32 teams were represented by fan reps for each team, and I represented prideofdetroit.

We were able to get Ndamukong Suh, Kyle Wilson, and Jon Asamoah (Guard) as 1,2,3.  Here is the entire 3 round mock on a team by team basis.

Mile High Report Live Mock Draft Spreadsheet

We have a pick coming up after the Rams, and still left on the board are:

QB: Tony Pike, Jevan Snead
TE: Aaron Hernandez
RB: Anthony Dixon, LeGarrette Blount, Joe McKnight
WR: Jordan Shipley, Taylor Price, Dezmon Briscoe
OL: Kyle Calloway, Mitch Petrus, Selvish Capers, Marshall Newhouse, J.D. Walton, Brandon Carter, Zane Beadles
DE: Austen Lane, Vince Oghobaase,George Sevie
DT: Torrell Troup
LB: Rennie Curran, Eric Norwood, Darryl Sharpton, Koa Misi, Thaddeus Gibson
S: T.J. Ward, Major Wright, Larry Asante
CB: Perrish Cox, Donovan Warren, Brandon Ghee

Who should be our pick in the 4th? Another CB like Ghee or Cox, S Major Cox or Assante, RB Joe McKnight, or perhaps another Guard like Mitch Petrus from Arkansas?

The one thing that was apparent to me was the dropoff in talent after about pick 44. For that reason, I think we should keep that pick at the top of the second round instead of trading down for an extra 3rd.

Not that anyone elected me the MHR GM, but thanks for letting me represent you!

Very similar to my post

Love it… In the 4th I would take Asante

Nate's Dream Draft!

Almost identical to your dream draft post- I just read it again. You like Johnson over Asamoah, or did you think Asamoah would be off the board in the 3rd?

Nice predictions Nate!

I took Johnson out of preference, but Asamoah would admittedly probably be better

Especially with the 3 pick… I know that Johnson is more of a 4th rounder, but I just kinda wanted to take my guy when I knew for sure I’d be able to get him.

Mitch Petrus....

I know you already grabbed 1. But we need all the o-line help we can get. I would also like a RB here. But so far the draft is looking good. Cant agrue DL, CB and OL.

Great job footstock

If the Lions draft actually goes down like this, I’ll be some kind of happy. Asamoah was absolutely the right pick, I think he’s a better prospect then Jerry, Petrus, and definitely better then Mike Johnson. I’m surprised you got Wilson in the second, if that happens in real life I will be going nuts. And of course, who can argue with Suh? Good job footstock, I’m proud of ya big guy.

The Vikings too McCourty instead of Wilson

…just 5 picks in front of us. I would have been happy with either one, but ecstatic about Wilson!

by footstock on Mar 21, 2010 5:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Whoever had the Vikes is crazy

for thinking McCourty will be a better pro. McCourty will be a quality corner in the league, but I don’t think he has the potential to be a true shutdown guy like Wilson. Also, the 49ers really reached IMO for Gerhart in the second, there were a number of backs left that I felt were better prospects.

by motown313 on Mar 21, 2010 5:27 PM EDT up reply actions

True!

But it is some sort of thunder and lightening with Frank Gore. Sort of like The G-Men with Jacobs. You think Gerhart could be as good as Jacobs?

They could have got him in the 3rd though. I was sort of surprised to see McCluster taken int he 2nd.

On another RB note, Blount may be there in the 5th for all of the Blount lovers out there.

Things happen in the draft

Look at that, Wilson made it to #34 after all. Great pick, Footstock!
(Like I suspected, the Vikings were the only serious threat to take Wilson…….and we dodged the bullet)

During the draft...

After each pick of ours int he first two rounds, a guy would say something like “Mathhew Stafford just started crying” when we didn’t take Okung and then “Matthew Stafford will be flat on his back again” after the Kyle Wilson pick.

I just kept replying, “BPA” and “you CAN build a line outside of the 1st round”.

Then after Asamoah, the ah*ole shut his face. Of course I had to take a shot at him by saying, “I don’t hear you talking about our interior line now”.

Now we still can get Mitch Petrus or Brandon Ghee..

with our next pick. Maybe Asante?

Darrell Stuckey.

If I’m reading the draft sheet right, he’s still available. We need a SS and he fits the bill perfectly. Him plus Wilson will be a HUGE upgrade to our secondary. You know it’s the right pick, guy.

I like stuckey!

He might be a good pick! You think maybe Major Wright might be a better pick though?

I like Wright a lot

but his natural position really is FS, not SS, and obviously I don’t think the coaching staff is gonna move Delmas anytime soon.

by footstock on Mar 21, 2010 5:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Major Wright is fine too

either way, we’re getting our guy to pair with Delmas. I just like that Stuckey was a five-year senior, and that he was the defensive leader of his team. I think he’s more ready to contribute from day one then Wright. But I’ll be fine whichever way you go.

by motown313 on Mar 21, 2010 6:01 PM EDT up reply actions

I like Stuckey but I think Larry Asante is a better choice.

he was a monster in college and I think bringing him in with Suh since they know each other so well might be a good thing. I like both of them better than Wright. Those Florida players scare the shit out of me. Too big of a bust potential. Playing on such a superior team where they never have to do anything more than just be an average player to make their defense work. I just can’t see any of them being good pro’s where the talent level is equal. The “bust” rate for defensive players out of Florida in the last decade is nothing less than astounding.

by toled0lions on Mar 21, 2010 8:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Suh and Asante...

If Wright and Asante are a wash as far as talent, then it makes sense to keep them together.

Does anyone think that Daniel Bullock will be a factor at safety this year? Or Campbell from Army?

Just give me 25 guys on the last year of their contracts; I'll win a pennant every year....Sparky Anderson

by footstock on Mar 21, 2010 10:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Doubtful.

I highly doubt Campbell will be able to contribute outside of special teams. Bullock is not a guy I’m really too happy with as our starting S, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world if he is.

I also don’t understand why everyone wants Larry Asante when every single mock I’ve seen has Stuckey and Wright rated higher. I also don’t think that chemistry between a S and a DT is gonna translate in anyways to the pros. Maybe a DT and DE that played together would work in that context.

campbell wil be a LB

in one of JS intervews he said there was no dought in his mind he looked like a LB

but imo camp reminds me of mays so i dont think he would work as a S for us.. should be a good ST guy

by det32 on Mar 21, 2010 11:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Stuckey is faster and a better fit at safety for us

Best option at this point.

I liked this comment:

"BPA" and "you CAN build a line outside of the 1st round".

You know, that also applies to the defensive line.

I DO think it shows...

The potential to build our line in rounds 2-4. Lots of quality interior lineman there, and frankly, The thought of a rookie LT doesn’t excite me. Can a LT be a good guard for a year or two? Maybe, but still a risk.

You need a LG now and a LT in a couple years? Take a LG now and a LT in a couple years. Don’t make it more complicated than it has to be.

by Latif Masud on Mar 21, 2010 5:38 PM EDT reply actions

I like taking Stuckey more

but I definitely wouldn’t be upset if we took Shipley, he’s gonna be a good slot receiver in the pros.

by motown313 on Mar 21, 2010 5:39 PM EDT up reply actions

I would like to see...

An upgrade to our back field.. A big guy like Bluont who may be extremely underrated due to missing his last season could be excellent.. a Brandon Jacobs or a Jerome Bettis type. who cares if hes got anger issues.. this the NFL yo!

by staffordfan on Mar 21, 2010 5:49 PM EDT reply actions

Brandon Ghee...

or even Donovan Warren, but DW has alot of questions/concerns. George Selvie would also be a good pick-up, as last year he was rated as a first round talent. I think a couple guys (Shipley, any of the RB, Asante, Oghobaase) would still be there in the 5th round. Aaron Hernandez would be a good pickup in the 4th, as he’s a great receiving TE, but realistically he’ll be gone in the first two rounds probably.

by lions_sucker on Mar 21, 2010 7:12 PM EDT reply actions

I like it footstock

But I worry that we could get a guard, that is just as good as Asamoah, in the 4th or 5th round (I even lean toward the 5th). It is very difficult to say who the BPA would be after pick 44 or so, like you said.

Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!

My suggestions

Dixon, McKnight, Shipley, Briscoe, Lane, Selvie, Ward, Wright, Asante.

"Zack Follett: he will hurt your mind." - Pride Leader, Sean Yuille, wielder of the Ban Hammer.
2010 Wests Tigers : Current record - 1-1 : Current Position - 11th : Last game - Defeated by Sydney Roosters 44-32

I would like to see

us get another piece added to our seondary. I wouldn’t mind snagging Ward, Wright, or Ghee with our next pick…but at this point, I believe Norwood is the BPA. That guy was a stud at South Carolina and could provide depth and eventually replace Peterson. 5th round I say we get Blount.

We need to build a beast of a backfield. I guess if you are going to stick with alex smith as your qb, you better have a great running game!

In the fourth?

Really? That’s a serious reach. And how can you not think Dixon or McKnight is a better prospect? I really don’t understand all these Blount fans we have on POD, maybe somebody can elaborate on why there seems to be an infatuation with him?

by motown313 on Mar 22, 2010 12:17 PM EDT up reply actions

His size

Or anyway, that’s why I like him. I want a power back in the backfield if they’re not going to give me Jerome Felton.

by Nate D. on Mar 22, 2010 2:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Dixon is a power back

and a better one at that. He’s better then Blount in pretty much every conceivable way (it seems obvious to me at least) and yet we still have people campaigning for Blount as our fourth round pick. This just doesn’t make sense to me.

by motown313 on Mar 22, 2010 2:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Measurably or otherwise?

Statistically:
Dixon vs big name SEC schools
-Auburn = 92 yds and a TD (they got smoked)
-LSU = 106 and 2 TD (another loss)
-Georgia Tech = 106 yds (another loss, but he outplayed Dwyer that day)
 -Florida = 53 yards (ouch…another loss)
-Alabama = 81 yards (another loss)

**His two best games came in a win vs Kentucky (252 and 2TD) and in a loss to Arkansas (182 and 2TD)…real defensive juggaurnauts…lol Look at his games against Florida and Alabama…that is what you will get at best in the pros (especially behind a weak O-line).

Blount did not play much, due to the KO incident at Boise State…..however, in 2008 he was a STUD:
Recorded the 13th 1,000-yard rushing season in school history in 2008
Pac-10 scoring leader set the UO season record with 17 rushing TDs

Lindy’s has him ranked as the 11th best running back in the nation (at the college level).

Dixon is 10 pounds lighter and an inch shorter than Blount, but other than that you’re probably right motown…he is more of a receiving threat than Blount for sure. You also have to realize that Blount came from a JC before transferring to Oregon in 2008. It is really hard to say who has more upside…if Blount can be a good boy…lol

Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!

by KDawg on Mar 22, 2010 3:06 PM EDT up reply actions

I would take mcknight before Blount or Dixon

Dixon would frustrate the hell out of POD. No second gear nor elusiveness. He will pound the rock, but be alot like K-Smith in terms of very limited big plays in the second tier.

I live in the south, so I got to see him play quite a bit. Has anyone up there actually watched him, or are y’all just going on scouting reports?
