So I met J.T. O'Sullivan

Today. I install home theater systems in San Diego. I figured I would post this cause he was a really polite, humble guy. He still has the crazy long surfer hair. He just had a child, and from what I could see was a pretty attentive father. He was totally a typical laid back So-Cal. kind of guy. He was still in playing shape however I don't know if he got picked up after he was with the Bengals last year. I don't want to go too much into specifics on where he lives because I could lose my job. Anyhow, it was the first Lion or ex-Lion I have ever met. Most of the guys I meet are Chargers and its always a 50/50 if they are cool or completely rude. I like meeting athletes that are personable. So, there you go.

yeah Michael Turner walked

up to me in our store and I was like "everyones full of it. That isn’t Turner he’s too small. Then he turned side ways and was as thick as he was wide. He also looked blazed. lol. He was chill also though.

I met Charlie Batch

When I was in HS. He played college ball at Eastern with one of the Faculty Members at the school. That was when I went to Roberto Clemente Student Development Center in Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti. He was always cool as a fan, I wished he had worked out. I think he got kind of screwed in a transition period between the end of the Herman Moore/Johnnie Morton era and the Germaine Crowell/Bill Shroeder season. He’s a top notch type of back-up.

I went to Roberto. Class of '97

Best learning experience I’ve been through, personally. Everybody tells a different story about that place- but I will be thankful for it for the rest of my life.

Oh wow,

Remember Big lip Mike, and Sexxy Lexxy?

I hope they don’t shut it down, I don’t know what I’d do if it weren’t for good ol’ Berto.

I went to Pioneer

but I had a number of friends that went to Clemente. Small world (though I guess since this is a Detroit site it shouldn’t be that surprising.)

It's alright

I did go to school with a lot of assholes/snobs that came from money. They didn’t hesitate to let you know about it either.

I was lucky enough to go when LaVell Blanchard carried the basketball team to the state championship and won Gatorade national player of the year. Good times.

by motown313 on Mar 22, 2010 12:33 AM EDT up reply actions

Lavell Blanchard

never made to the NBA- but he’s a doctor now. Impressive guy.

I got kicked out of Pioneer, and Clemente gave me discipline to succeed. Lexanna entered my art into a contest, and I won an NAACP award and UNCF scholarship as a result.

It's a shame how things turned out for them.

If you had told pretty much anybody in Ann Arbor back then that Blanchard wouldn’t make it in the league, they would have laughed at you.

And the way it ended for Sidney at BC was tragic. We had such high hopes for them. Seems like things never go exactly the way you envision it.

by motown313 on Mar 22, 2010 12:03 PM EDT up reply actions

That is really dope.

The teachers there are a whole nother breed. They actually care about their students. I think I must have been a little more hard-headed, I had to join the Navy before I got my shit straight.

And I didn’t mean any disrespect to Lexxy, it was a joke, in poor humor. I’m an ass.

Great Post!

Nice to see that someone like Sullivan has managed to stay grounded.
I’ve never ran into a sports athlete, but my roomate ran into Dan Fouts in the 80’s and all he said was “that guy is huge”.

I've talked to Dave Chappelle

a number of times, and had a number of conversations with him. Every time he’d see me he could never remember my name, but he’s such a cool down to earth guy. He lives in a small village in Ohio by the name of Yellow Springs, the same village my pops lives in. It’s so surreal, the downtown consists of not even two city blocks, but if you go downtown at night (usually after 10) you will see him sitting on a bench alone chain-smoking. The first time I asked him to borrow his lighter, and it kinda became a running joke every time I saw him (usually while I was headed down to one of the two local bars.)

He’s a very cool and humble guy, he just really hates people who won’t give him space. If you run up on him with your camera phone out, he probably won’t talk to you. If you just treat him like a normal person, he’ll chat with you. Very cool guy.

I saw him play at the Fox Theatre on 4/20.... damn, must of been '00 or '01

I was like 3rd row, sat by myself as I bought the tickets at a different time from the friends I went with…. Glad he didn’t pick on the white guy…lol.

saw him live

He was just great he went over an hour longer than his show was scheduled just because he was having so much fun.

One thing I love about him

is that despite all his millions, he drives a tan Toyota 4Runner. You would think a celebrity with as much money as him would be in a Bentley, or at least a BMW or a Benz, but his primary vehicle (the only one he drives everyday) is a 4Runner.

Conan seems pretty down to earth too. Alot of the money he got for leaving the tonight show was to take care of his employees.

I met Darryl McDaniels (RUN-DMC) outside Cobo once.

Very humbling for me personally, as a little kid in the 1990s they were responsible for part of my introduction to rap music. Thanks to him, I fell in love with the genre and everything that comes with it.

He was very kind to me, I asked for an autograph and he was happy to sign. I rarely ask for stuff like that, but like I said, he’s a legend to me.

who went to a school around metro detroit for high school, and a school in the south, i think in georgia for college. drafted in the 1st round. but ended up getting hurt and it ruined his career. but i have no clue what his name was anymore. and i’m really upset i forgot it. i’m trying to find it now.

but he was pretty alright, just talked on his phone the whole time. came into my old work in sterling heights.

The closest I ever got was Mark Dell, Michigan State’s wideout. I played corner for Farmington High in my freshman yr, he was in his last year at Harrison (no I did not cover him)

I met O'Sullivan as well................

And I thought he was a total tool. He sagged his already oversized jean shorts, wore his 59/50 flat-brimmed hat backwards, wore enough “bling” it could set metal detectors off from miles away, and held his crotch as he walked. He wanted nothing to do with anybody and had this stuck up attitude as if he was someone important. The guy was a joke…..

I sat across the aisle from Charlie Ward on a plane

Great two-star athlete for Florida State. Didn’t have as much success in the NBA.

I've jammed/opened for some bigger rock bands

Most were really cool, some were total assholes (Sebastian Bach, Ratt). Met some pro athletes and they were pretty cool. I remember Eminem when he tried being a rock singer with a band called The Scam waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day. Played a show with the White Stripes before they got big at a dump in Hamtramck and they were booed off the stage. Safe to say they had the last laugh lol.
