#4 has been GREAT but it just might be time to look for another Kicker

Jason Hanson just hasnt been as clutch as he use to be, just wanted to get some thoughts on the subject.  Is their anybody worth drafting?  Last year he missed some easy Field Goal's.  I sure wish he could have kicked a last second Superbowl winning Field Goal for the Lions.  I expect to take a lot heat over this one but he will always be remembered as one of the greatest Lions ever in my book.

One year grace period

all i really have to say is he did have knee surgery last year, so he gets a grace period from me…

Not yet

use the last pick in the 2011 draft to get a new kicker if Hanson doesn’t rebound this season

Dude,

Hanson had his knee scoped just before the season…. I believe it was his planting leg…

He has at least 3 more years in him.

FG's aren't the issue

other than the two wins, all other games were 7+ point loses. it’s not like he’s missing 3 fg’s a game. he’ll probably retire after this season anyway

And as loyal as he's been

I’d be a little pissed if the FO tried to force him out of Detroit.

I'd be more than a little pissed

I don’t care if Hanson wanted to play until he was 50… You keep him until he retires.

I imagine that's what Packer fans said about another #4

Kickers are one of the only positions

That you can keep the guys right to the very end, and get another guy to replace him.

NO shit....

Just check out stover and Morten anderson.

Agreed.

Hanson stayed this long. This is probably the most fun he will have with a team in a decade. No way is he being replaced yet. Lions can’t do that to him, or us.

He has a few more in him

don’t judge one season after 20 good ones

Don't pay attention to 2010

It was one of the worst years for FG kicking in recent years. Heck even the really good kickers imploded, including someone like Kaeding in the playoffs.

PIZZA?!?

2009

Wasn’t even the worst year he’s ever had, statistically. Hanson made 75% of his kicks, which is the 4th worst season of his career from a percentage standpoint.

Jason Hanson just hasnt been as clutch as he use to be

You mean he’s not as clutch as he used to be… the season before?
In 2008 he hit 96% of his field goals, which was good enough for 4th in the league (And of the three players that tied for first, only one of them had more than 1 FG attempt on the season to comprise their 100% (Garrett Hartley was the exception with 13 of 13).

At this point, 2009 is an aberration rather than a pattern.
Until proven otherwise, I personally can’t call it anything other than a somewhat “off” year after having knee surgery.

I say roll with Hanson

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to have another kicker on the roster though. Perferably a UFA someone that can work with Hanson and good enough to fill in for him when needed.

And those poor fools ...

Feel like the short-shop brought in for the Orioles during the Ripken era.

Hanson is our guy

He’s not going anywhere this season, and he should retire when he feels he can no longer perform at the level required of him. The coaches and FO should gracefully allow him to make the realization and decision himself. The only way I think we should forcefully remove Hanson is if he starts personally losing games for us and refuses to call it a career. I do not see him as that type of person. I think he is the type of man who knows when enough is enough, and he will quit when he can’t get the job done anymore.

NEXT!

Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!

No, we should keep Hanson

He’s an inspiration to the team and one of the few Lions that has truly poured his heart and soul into the team. He should leave when he wants.

I agree

He is probably the only guy left that remebers the playoffs
