PFT: Lions Re-Sign Vinny Ciurciu

Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Lions have re-signed linebacker Vinny Ciurciu.  Ciurciu joined the Lions last October to add depth to the linebacker position and to shore up the special teams units.  Like Jon Jansen, Ciurciu's deal is reportedly only one year.

With Jansen and Ciurciu now signed, the remaining unrestricted free agents for the Lions are Daunte Culpepper, Patrick Ramsey, Will Heller, Casey FitzSimmons, Damion Cook, Anthony Henry, William James, and Marquand Manuel.

....and Larry Foote!

I say re-sign Foote, Heller, Fitzsimmons, James and maybe Manuel. Ciurciu and Manuel probably won’t make the final roster, but take what you can get right now

Aside

from maybe 1 special teams play the only time I remember him being on the field was giving up the TD to Michael Gaines that put the Browns ahead of us with around 5:00 to go.

Getting back to the Williams trade...

I think it is unfair to say he will compete for a starting job. He is clearly our best DT at this point. Green Bay franchised him 2 years ago. This guy is the real deal. The question is who is competing for the other DT spot? Hopefully Sammie Hill.

I think Hill starting last year was more out of necessity than anything else. I think now that he has had that exposure, we could ease him into more of a rotation so he can learn even more instead of overloading him. I realize that seems like backwards logic, but I think it will be better for him long term.

Bottom line, I think CW has one spot locked up.

I only have one decent memory of this guy

And that was letting Michael Gaines score against us. Let’s hope he does better this year.

The Bringers of Hope: Stafford - Delmas - C. Johnson - Pettigrew - Levy - Hill - Schwartz
Zack Follett: he will hurt your mind.

I just...

watched the play again, and it was different than my mid-season memory. It looked to me like CiurCiu was actually moving outward in coverage and it was his sideline-bound momentum that prevented him from getting the necessary leverage to block Gaines from scoring. That’s just what I picked up, regardless of the fact that I don’t think that he is going to make the 2010 final roster.

Ditch Fitzsimmons and Daunte

Daunte sucks balls and Fitz isn’t worth keeping around imo. I’d rather go with Grew, Heller, and give Gronkowski a shot. We know how Fitz plays which isn’t spectacular and frankly I think he sucks. I’m sick of keeping old Lions around because they are serviceable on special teams. Ditch the guy already and get some fresh bodies in here that will compete and improve our special teams units.

James I’d resign. Manuel is made of glass get rid of him.

I'd rather have the younger Gronkowski.

He has the physical tool to be unstoppable and change games. (not more than grew though, well maybe, I think he’s THE STEAL OF THE DRAFT write that down!)

Oh I just did.

I have a 9" personality
