Rest of the offseason...
MY (unrealistic) hopes for the rest of the offseason:
Trade:
#2 pick, 2011 5th round and Dewayne White to Seattle for #6, #14 and #141 picks
#14, Maurice Morris and 2011 4th round pick (from Seattle) pick to Houston for #20, #82 and #152
#34, #82 and #135 picks to New England for #22 and #120 pick
Resign:
Casey Fitzsimmons and William James
Free Agency:
RB Thomas Jones 3 year/$15 million ($9/$3/$3)
LB Keith Bullock 2 year/$6 million (4/2)
QB Charlie Batch 2 year/$6 million (4/2)
CB Marlin Jackson 4 year/$12 million (6/3/3)
Draft:
--- 1st Round
#6 (from Seattle) Eric Berry S/Tennessee
#20 (from Seattle) Kyle Wilson CB/Boise State
#22 (from New England) Brandon Graham DE/Michigan
--- 2nd Round
none (#34 to New England)
--- 3rd Round
#66 Best Guard Available (Jon Asamoah/Illinois, Mike Johnson/Alabama, Vladmir Ducasse/Massachusetts)
--- 4th Round
#101 A.J. Jefferson/Fresno State
#120 (from New England) LaGarrette Blount RB/Oregon
--- 5th Round
(# 135 to New England)
# 141 (from Seattle) Linval Joseph DT/East Carolina University
# 152 (from Houston) Danario Alexander WR/Missouri
--- 6th Round
# 174 Rodger Saffold OT/OG/Indiana
--- 7th Round
# 218 (from Cleveland) Josh Hull ILB/Penn State
In my opinion, these moves represent a significant amount of wheeling and dealing, but could be possible in this crazy uncapped, trade-happy offseason that has been evident so far. Since the combine is over and free agency has moved teams into a general direction and also created some other interesting situations, such as the Lions releasing our top two corners from last season in Buchanon and James. We haven't made a big move to get a respectable replacement yet and God knows he isn't already wearing Honolulu Blue and Silver, so I've concluded we're going to get a CB early, and J.Schwartz and the rest of the coaches touted Wilson highly during the Senior Bowl. So that's the main drive behind the New England trade, especially considering N.E. is famous for loving to move down in the draft for more picks.
The Seattle trade has been discussed frequently here and I think you throw Dewayne White and another pick in and it really gives them a reason to move up, that is unless they move this pick to Denver for Brandon Marshall, whom I wished the Lions had the luxury to go after this season. Although I'm actually not sure if the Marshall thing would affect this year or not. I had thought that I read all of the compensatory picks pertain to 2011, but I keep hearing about Seattle's two picks when people talk about it on ESPN. Either way it's probably a long shot anyways at this exact trade happening, but remember this is MY offseason plan.
The Houston trade makes a little sense because they still need a running game and Morris can contribute to that, we won't need him as Blount, Brown and Dorsey can carry the load until Smith returns to strengthen the group even more. But also is the thought that the Texans are knocking on the doorstep of the NFLs top teams, but just maybe need that little better player at #14 than what's left at #20, maybe like C.J. Spiller as their 1/2 punch with Morris or Joe Haden to sure up an open slot left by Dunta Robinson's departure. Either way, also unlikely but yet again MY offseason.
As for the draft, these are players I think rank on a best player available and later more need specific, but still always FITTING the Lions team and schemes (such as no 290 lb. DT or slow pussy CB or slow unagressive S and so on). I've taken into account countless hours of watching and rewatching the combine, looking over scouting reports, taking into account their college, who was around them in college, intangibles Schwartz and Mayhew have targeted, defensive schemes, etc., etc., etc. So this is my best guess at who we could be targeting (although they're probably not counting on 10 draft picks as I am with these trades) and where their draft stock should be barring any crazy pro days.
Prospective lineup:
QB: Stafford, Batch*, Stanton
RB: Smith, Blount*, Brown, Dorsey
FB: Felton
TE: Pettigrew, Heller, Fitzsimmons
WR: C. Johnson, Burleson, Williams, Northcutt, Alexander*
T: Backus, Cherilus, Saffold*, Jansen
G: Peterman, Johnson*, Jansen, Ramirez?, doesn't matter
C: Raiola, Gandy
DE: Graham*, Vanden Bosch, Avril, Hunter, McBride
DT: Hill, Williams, Joseph*, Cohen, Fluellen
OLB: Peterson, Sims, Levy, Follett,
MLB: Levy, Bullocks*, Hull*
CB: Wilson*, Jackson*, Jefferson*, King, James (really don't know what's going on here, hoping they got a plan though)
S: Delmas, Berry*, M. White, Bullocks
K: Hanson
P: Harris
KR: Burleson, Williams, Wilson
PR: Wilson, Burleson, Brown
LS: Muhlback
Lemme know what you think...

Yeah dipshit
Said no way it happens, it’s if I was calling the shots, trades I would try to make that I thought would be as fair as possible. Maybe you can say the trades aren’t fair or one or some of those free agents wouldn’t sign here, but real quick – Batch, veteran FA QB that we need, also played here before, Jackson played for Michigan, Thomas Jones was already rumored to be a possible landing spot in Detroit, and Bullocks played for Schwartz and without Foote in the picture seems perfect… so I don’t think the FAs are out of the question…
So what’s your beef?

That's reasonable
But what parts? Completely unbelievable? Seattle needs a QB maybe, so they could want to move up and from #6 to #2 would require something more than their 2nd rounder but maybe less than the #14, so if you throw Dewayne White and next years 5th rounder for their 5th rounder this year it isn’t out of this world… or maybe they stick with Hasselbeck and want Suh. But what part of that trade is terrible for Seattle?

Defensive Much?
The beef is probably that the trades are very unrealistic. As much as we would like them to happen, they are very unlikely.
There is no reason to be calling anyone dipshit. you put your views on here and you should have expected to get such radical ideas questioned. It is very poor form for you to be calling people dipshits when they say they don’t think it is likely. I liked the post, and the creative thinking but apparently you are kind of a d-bag.
I called him a dipshit because I said none of this is realistically possible
I KNOW that this could never happen, it’s like you said creative thinking combined with fairness, how bad do you think these trades are? I tried to make them as fair as I could… tell me what you think they’d expect for what we’d get in return…

Didn't have to call him a dipshit though
Civility is important.

Agreed
If you post something this outlandish, you have to be ready for people to call you out a little bit. I thought Sterling C was being remarkably restrained.

yeah It's an NFL rule....remember " If it is in the game....it is in the game."
if the shoe fits...get another one just like it - George Carlin
damn it...i know i read that there is a limit....maybe without a CBA the browns have 11....
Shit…my mistake. Can find any offical NFL rule about the draft
if the shoe fits...get another one just like it - George Carlin
yeah in 2008 the Chiefs did have 12 picks...
but two of them were compensatory picks from the Jared Allen trade with Minnesota.
if the shoe fits...get another one just like it - George Carlin
+ Jimmy Johnson
And the cowboys had a ton of picks that 1 year as well but I think it could only happen if you had compensation picks. But who the hell knows with this being a no cap year.
Only 10 there
There’s “only” 10 picks in my draft for the Lions…

I read your title about it being unrealistic
But I must say you did put alot of time into it and it’s very well thought out. That being said
I never want to see Batch in a lions uniform again!!!!!
Eric Berry won't slip to 6th
The best there is, The best there was, and the best there ever will be - Bret the Hitman hart
About 30% chance it could happen
Other than the Browns what team would draft him? I see the skins being a possible and the Browns being a probable but both those teams have offencive issues not defencive issues.
Kansas City at pick 5
Maybe even Tampa at 3 if Suh is gone……
Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!
as many picks as possible
I would love to have as many picks as possible. This is such as deep draft, the deepest in years. Many are saying that its the deepest since the 1983 draft, so i say the more picks the better. I’d even be up for trading our second for a later second and 4th, or our 3rd for a 4th 6th and 7th. As many picks as we can get, because we need potential and depth at this point.
Lol I thought the same thing
This is similar to what I do in franchise mode. Make a bunch of trades for as many picks as possible.
Pride of Detroit, SB Nation's Lions Blog
Hell yeah
In the Franchise I’m currently playing, I had the 7th overall pick. I repeatedly exchanged first round picks with the team in the slot below me for an extra third rounder. I ended up picking the player I wanted at 13th overall or so, and having like 8 3rd round picks.
Lol yeah that's sort of what I do
Just keep going down until you absolutely have to pick.
Pride of Detroit, SB Nation's Lions Blog
And where will the money for all these 1st round picks come from.
Don’t get me wrong in theory 3 1st round picks would be great. But in reality, that’s a lot of fucking dough!
you mean you dont have a $$$ tree
in your back yard i thought it came standard for all lions fans…lol :)

Was the only Comp to not need a government buy out. He’s got the wallet to do it with. Just is he medicated enough to do it?? Come on Jr. slip the old man a micky.
Fantasty Football
This based more on Fantasty than reality. Of course many of the people last year were sure the Lions were going to make the playoffs. We have some serious needs that have to be addressed, but it does look as if Mayhew is trying to upgrade players. Let’s hope they make a move to get a solid cornerback. The secondary is a gaping hole right now that Delmas can’t cover on his own.

With all of that trading and high hopes, we could do much better
We should have an all-pro team if we could pull off all of those trades. I wouldn’t draft a few of those guys. Right now, we are an 8-8 team with what you put together. There would be better players to be drafted than what you have.
