Jonathan Wade to Visit Lions

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, cornerback Jonathan Wade is scheduled to visit the Lions on Monday.  Wade is technically a restricted free agent, but because the Rams didn't tender him an offer, he is basically an unrestricted free agent.

Wade was a third-round pick in 2007 and has only started in 6 games in his career.  In his three seasons in the league, however, Wade has appeared in all but 1 game.

It looks like Wade can play multiple positions at cornerback (right, left, and nickel), similar to what William James did with the Lions last season.  Considering it looks like James is moving on and the Lions also released Phillip Buchanon on Thursday, it's good to see that something is happening on the cornerback front.  The Lions will likely have to shore up depth at the cornerback position via both free agency and the draft, and adding a player or two like Wade will probably be necessary just to add some bodies to the secondary.

good to see-

I’m glad the Lions are looking at players, but a second stringer for the team with a worse record than the Lions is not the first place I would look. Let’s hope they are making calls around the league for better players than Wade. Obviously they need some bodies for CB, but let’s upgrade the position.

have you watched Wade play? because I have, and he’s not at all a bad player. he was drafted as a back up for Tye Hill, which left him not being able to play, but when he was able to play and start, he got interceptions.. when Tye Hill was traded and Wade was finally able to get his chance, a new management team came to the Rams, and Spag only likes tall corners. he placed Wade into a situation that he never intentionally planned on keeping. Wade started four games and did extremely well, but Spag wanted his draftee to play and without any reason started rotating Fletcher into the starting position without reason besides him wanting to. maybe you should do your homework before commenting

- young

I would like to see the adjective of good or talented used when describing the players the Lions target than young.

who has the better stars I wonder

James or Wade James was pretty bad but he played in more games. Atleast they are looking I’d hope they can do better than just bodies.

More then likely....

….same type of corner as James but is younger and probably cheaper as well.

im going to say this...

there are already “bodies” in the secondary…..we need starting caliber guys RIGHT NOW……or at least soon………..

by miblue on Mar 7, 2010 4:56 PM EST reply actions

Could be a mini-camp body, could make the team. Ya never know…

We need someone at corner, I'll take him

The Bringers of Hope: Stafford - Delmas - C. Johnson - Pettigrew - Levy - Hill - Schwartz
Zack Follett: he will hurt your mind.

same here Hyper

And to add to the list again bring in the journey man Lito Shepard (stop gap) he at least has been a starter for most of his career.

Don't worry about it!

What’s all the complaining about? Just because he gets signed doesn’t mean he’s playing in games. They need to lock up a bunch of CB’s / nickel guys and let them fight for who gets to play. Get a few young guys, a few old guys, a few “sure things” and let them fight for it. May the best man win!

Right on!

Sometimes there are those rare situations were a diamond gets muddy-up looking like Coal on a crap team. Maybe he just sucks … Sighing him for a shot isn’t gonna hurt the team.

check out another CB prospect reported on ESPN

http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/19686/detroits-plan-at-cb-begins-to-emerge

Looks like the Lions are going to replace their cut CBs with some younger players if all goes well. Let’s hope they play better than last years team.

What Im saying

We need another wide reciever Northcut and the other Johnson dropped more balls last season than I’ve ever seen cut them add some talent(Vincent Jackson maybe).Runningback westbrook and Tomlison or hell try for Thomas jones you add too different aspects westbrook is a great recieving back and tomlison adds power up the middle grab Tate full package at the spot.Cornerbacks sign Sharper for a year and Leigh Bowden and Ryan Clark. orAntoine Bethea he only had 120 tackles last year and damn keep Larry foote here. And we paid Burleson to much. But on the positive side this is the first time ive seen us make moves like this in such a long time thank god the Matt Milin era is behind us

Another good possibility with the skills to fit OUR defense

From the SBNation player profile:

Possesses elite pure speed. Can pile up tackles with his solid technique and is still gaining skills and confidence as a corner. Has great anticipation and hands to pick the errant pass.

Another FAST man cover CB. Apparently better in man than zone…….our kind of guy.

Hey, as long as Zack Follett keeps hitting people, he can rap to Barney the Dinosaur for all I care.

Any word on this deal

I know Detroit is working the trade with Atlanta but is there any word on Wade ? Even if we pick up 2 CBs in the draft we need to get some depth.
