Lions Trading for Chris Houston

Apparently Detroit will be trading our 6th round pick and flip flopping our 5ths with Altanta for Chris Houston. He is still you, 25 or 26 and was a former 2nd round pick. He is mostly know to be the only CB to hold down Megatron in his last year of college ball. If I remember correctly he held him to 1 catch for under 20 yards. Either way a starting CB for a 6th rounder is gould. Mayhew and Schwartz continue to impress!

This is a GREAT move.

He’s a good corner and we wouldn’t have gotten anyone that good with our 6th round pick. God I’m starting to have a man crush on Mayhew. he’s like an evil genius. You know the kind of evil genius on the opposite end of the spectrum as Al Davis. he’s an evil genius that is making a fool out of the rest of the NFL while Al Skeletor makes a fool out of his own team.

Hell yeah heal yeah hell yeah! They should have drafted him that year and I was pissed they didn’t. But…Hell yeah! I don’t like exchanging our 5ths but…hell yeah! Now we need to extend him. Unless they want to try him out for a year…

We don't get him for free

It’s not like Atlanta is going to give us a player AND BETTER picks. We got him VERY cheap. It looks like another Mayhew steal.

We had an Atlanta fan come in here and say the same thing.....

That he does not turn his head when running in coverage, which cause him to “repeatedly (REPEATEDLY) run into the receiver”. Sounds like another CB we used to have……his name was Bryant Westbrook…..AKA Captain Pass Interference.

Maybe Houston has a drinking problem...

Remember Westbrook quit going to bars and shit the year he tore his ACL? Before he got injured, he was really impressing that year and I remember a lot of analysts saying he would have been a pro-bowler. ANyone else remember this?

I think this was posted before the actual deal was done.

I think Atlanta accepted a 6th and swapping 5ths. as the final deal.

by Lead Hunter on Mar 7, 2010 9:15 PM EST up reply actions

That was a speculatory article written before the trade went through.

You can tell by the wording that it was saying they might trade and this is what it might involve. ATL was probably asking for a 4th but Mayhew said no way and made them take a 6th.

by toled0lions on Mar 7, 2010 9:17 PM EST up reply actions

monday

Rotoworld says it should be completed by Monday so I don’t think its official yet but both teams have agreed upon the trade.

www.prosportsdraft.webs.com

by Calvin21 on Mar 7, 2010 9:33 PM EST up reply actions

Well until it's announced by the teams no.

No deal is finalized until physicals and league approval. But that article was written in future tense and with a speculative tone to it. Meaning there were discussions about a possible trade and the terms were just being speculated on. Now there are multiple articles written in present tense saying it was a 6th and swapping 5ths. PFT and adam Schefter’s tweet both reported deal is done with a 6th and swapping 5th’s

SWEET!

Wow I always loved the play of Chris Houston. Whenever the Lions grab a new player especially as young as Houston, I usually like to check out other teams forums on the lowdown and fans intake on their former player or players and I have to say, there wasn’t much concerns towards Houston. The one thing I kept reading up on was he fails to turn his head often but his speed makes up for that most of the time and that can be learned under a defensive minded Schwartz who turned a 7th rounder Finnegan into a Pro Bowler so there’s always hope. We didn’t give up a thing to acquire a starter.

Good stuff Mayhew. Keep up the great work.

but you can’t coach speed. Houston has speed.

by toled0lions on Mar 7, 2010 9:40 PM EST up reply actions

Yup

I was just talking to one of my friends who hasn’t missed an Atlanta game and he is pissed off! He’s a good scout on players and said the one thing Lions fans will love out of Chris besides his speed is his physicality and press coverage skills.

That’s all Schwartz wants in a corner and I would take this deal over Cromartie’s any day.

Great job Mayhew.

by Calvin21 on Mar 7, 2010 9:43 PM EST up reply actions

WOW!

I just looked up Houston’s combine stats and he ran a 4.32 40-time and put up the 225 bench press reps 27 times. That’s some serious speed and strength.

by toled0lions on Mar 7, 2010 9:44 PM EST reply actions

Yea the 27 reps really stood out to me.

if Schwartz can coach him up he has the strength to jam any receiver in the league. And the speed to keep up with them too. If he listens to the coaches he has all the tools to be a stud. We’ll just have to wait and see if the coaches can get the best out of him.

Houston Blows...

the city, that is…. Mayhew & co. seem to do a really good job on their homework with these guys, I have never seen this guy play before. I still would like to see us sign a Lito Sheppard or Marlin Jackson, even though he’s had a couple of season ending injuries, but at this point I don’t see either of those happening. Anyways, I do like this move, I just like saying Houston Blows.

by FMFDOC8404 on Mar 7, 2010 9:45 PM EST reply actions

, but Houston can play.

He can run, but he’s no a burner. He has straight line speed but not great agility. What makes him good is his pressing capabilities. Dude is a gym rat. I dare say he might be the best pressing corner in the league. A pressing corner is the most underrated attribute I think. Knocking a WR off his route just for a split second is Huge. That’s another split second for the pocket to collapse.

by TheOriginalVoice on Mar 7, 2010 10:03 PM EST up reply actions

In case you wanted me to weigh in

For the price, you’re getting an awesome bargain. Houston has underachieved during his time in Atlanta and the rumors you heard about him not turning his head in coverage are true. But the physical tools are all there, and maybe a change of scenery will fix everything for you.

Thanks.

Plus as Calvin21 pointed out, Schwartz is great at working with Cb’s and getting the best out of them. As he pointed out Schwartz was the reason Corteland Finnegan went from a 7th rounder to the best corner in the league in 2008.

I don't think this guy is a guy we want starting

I don’t see what he has that P. Buchanon didn’t besides being younger and not as fast. But I’m willing to give Schwartz the benefit of the doubt. I hope he can coach this guy up to where he could maybe be a starting CB in the future.

by Waitingfortheroar on Mar 8, 2010 12:20 AM EST up reply actions

Here's what:

He is young, he has starter exp, and an underachiever…you get a player (who was oringinally picked in the 2nd round) for basically a 6th rounder, you take it and hope you can coach him up to be better.

There aren’t too many good CBs left in the FA market, and many of the ones that are restricted free agents. Plus, you would have to pay those FAs the “detroit premium” to come here.

The beginning of the end of the misery

by Latif Masud on Mar 8, 2010 12:55 AM EST up reply actions

A starter-

Hey they Lions are getting a starter, for a 6th round pick? What a steal! Let’s hope they continue to upgrade positions. I would prefer them to keep players on their roster until the deals are sealed, but who cares what I want! Great work Mayhew and team!

by Kirt-LionFaninGR! on Mar 8, 2010 6:37 AM EST reply actions

Mayhew got another steal! Great deal!

Mayhew apparently got another talented player who fits, a blazing fast man cover CB who is a perfect fit for gunther’s blitzing 4-3. The Lions are also possibly looking at Jonathan Wade, who is also a blazing fast man cover CB who FITS.

How fast is Chris Houston?

Dude’s got like 98 speed Which is the only prerequisite for playing in my franchise

That’s fast!

I just looked up Houston’s combine stats and he ran a 4.32 40-time and put up the 225 bench press reps 27 times. That’s some serious speed and strength.

Did i mention he’s fast?

Better measurables than Kyle Wilson 27 reps is impressive

Wilson’s 25 bench reps were impressive for a CB…..and Houston was even better! BOTH Kyle Wilson AND Chris Houston had more bench reps than Gerald McCoy! ROFLMAO

I’m already drooling at the thought of Kyle Wilson and Chris Houston as our starting CB’s……..and Louis Delmas and Eric Berry as our starting safeties.
