POLL: Which FA/trade acquisition will make the biggest difference in 2010?

I can't believe we're only 12 days away from the start of the draft.  I feel like a little kid waiting for Christmas, you know how it goes.

Anyway, of the guys we brought in who are expected to have a chance to start, who do you think will make the biggest impact for us in 2010?

sims

i voted sims, because not only will he be helping keep matthew healthy, but would be a boost to his confidence too. knowing that his backside is protected a little better now.

Me too

I would like to see us add Keith Bullick. We have a nice back up in DeAndre Levy, who can play multiple spots at his position.

agree

I voted Sims and would love to add Bullock.

Sims all day...

although i feel that they will all help none of them will have an impact like Sims. I also feel like there not done addessing the OL we need that franchise LT not saying Backus can’t handle it but because Cherilus can’t. Makes more since to get LT now and move Backus to RT plus it gives us depth if something freakish happens.

i said burelson

cuz teams are gonna have to start having less than 3 dudes on cj all the time now and hes going to tear them up……and if they dont lay off as much…..we’ll still have burleson and pettigrew out there…………im pretty confident in them

by Rigormortis on Apr 10, 2010 12:19 PM EDT reply actions

I voted Sims...

…but I feel like Burleson will also be a huge benefit like you said. They’re all going to make pretty big impacts.

No one voted Houston??

Hes a huge upgrade over the blank we had starting at CB

The beginning of the end of the misery

by Latif Masud on Apr 10, 2010 12:30 PM EDT reply actions

I was gonna call it a push between the blank and Houston

but Houston has dreads, so I’m gonna give him the slight edge. In all seriousness though, I’m still left wondering why we didn’t try to re-sign Will James. He wasn’t anything special to be sure, but as bad as our secondary situation looks it seems like bringing him back wouldn’t have been a terrible idea.

Houston was my 2nd choice after Corey Williams

Sims here!

But I wanted to pick everyone on the defencive side of the ball, since getting us out of the basement should make us all happy. But Simms solidifying the Oline and protecting Staffinfection should be the most visual upgrade that we see. And maybe just maybe we might actually see a hole for or RB’s to run threw for once!

How many lumps you want Doc?

Too tough...

I think Sims, Burleson, Williams and KVB will all have huge impacts. I think Sims does one of two things, either solidifies our oline or takes away any excuses for keeping around the older guys on the oline. Burleson allows CJ to have a pro bowl type season or best case scenario, they both have pro bowl years. And on the Dline, Williams plays like he did in Green Bay and KVB stays healthy and allows our DB’s some time and Cliff Avril to learn and flourish.

Houston on the other hand, I think he’ll be a nickelback sooner than later, and is a dam on the flood at the moment. I think we draft some secondary and that is the position that is weakest through the season, like Schwartz and Mayhew have said, you can’t be naive enough to think you can solve everything immediately. I think the front office figures we can see what player we can draft, and have jones and houston start for us and phase them out eventually with draft picks.

I said Williams

Imagine if he can go back to form playing in a 4-3 again notching up 7 sack seasons. If he can can do even half of that I’d be happy to have a guy in the middle getting penetration the penetration alone will make everyone play better as a whole.

Corey WIlliams

i totally agree this guy is a great DT i think and he will wreck qbs better any dt we draft for a couple years till he starts losing his gas

excited to see him playing 4-3 DT again probly most excited to see him than anyone unless we get a LT and Mathew can get some time in the pocket otherwise it will be a pitty party if we dont get a LT in the first traded down or w.e

woooow

Im only the second person 2 go with houston. I almost picked Sims but our secondary was the worst in the league last year and Houston is a huge upgrade from last year

I voted KVB

Not only will he contribute on the field, but he will be a big part of continuing to change the culture in Detroit and will raise the bar for the effort given off the field. KVB will impact this team in a way that will be felt for years to come, long after his playing days. He is such a dedicated professional and hard worker that many teams would give him a spot just for that, even if he could not perform on the field. Expect this guy to be a defensive line coach when his career is done.

Sims... hands down!

I think he not only is a good player, but he makes Backus a better player and in turn, gives continuity to a group that has sorely lacked it for over a decade.

Vanden Bosch would be a close second if we can get a DT next to him that will allow him to return to his form when he played alongside Haynesworth. Yeah… I mean Suh.

by DrewsLions on Apr 10, 2010 7:06 PM EDT reply actions

you guys...

sims is good in pass protection but it wont change how bad backus is get over it backus is 32 year old guard playing LT in what is now the tuffest division to play LT in

by Daniel Simonelli on Apr 10, 2010 7:08 PM EDT reply actions

Backus certainly isn't the best....

but statistics don’t lie completely… he surely isn’t the worst.

by DrewsLions on Apr 10, 2010 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Sims is only good at pass protection, run blocking is his strength. He will help Backus but not be as big of an impact as KVB IMO.

Sims may make Backus better but KVB is going to make every player on our defense better and our Oline a lot better too, when he kicks their ass in practice every day maybe they will learn how to block a real DE.

by Evilsmurf on Apr 10, 2010 9:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Depending on the draft of course

But if we pick Suh and Williams finds his old 4-3 form, I’d expect Williams to be a real force in the middle. Especially if protections cannot decide whether to double Williams or Suh.

Sims is a huge upgrade.

But, I voted for Williams. Sims will be much better than what we had at LG, but I just feel that as a whole, there is tons of more room for improvement on D then there is on O (I know, I know, our LG was the absolute worst). I still feel that if Williams can play to the potential that I (and our FO) think, no matter who they end up puting next to him next year, he will make a huge impact on our D, and help us work towards mediocrity.
