Adam Shefter reports Broncos trading WR Marshall

per ESPN: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft10/news/story?id=5085644

Adam Shefter reports that the Denver Broncos will be trading star disgruntled wide receiver Brandon Marshall to the Miami Dolphins for this year's 2nd rounder and next year's second rounder. Let me be the first to say "well shit".

I would have loved seeing Marshall in HBAS for that price. Marshall is tied with two other players for having 3 100-catch seasons in a row and is only one off from, wait for it, THAT'S RIGHT! None other than our own Herman Moore. Oh, by the way, he's only been in the league for 4 years. Would have been unbelievable help for Staff.

But I think we all knew we'd never get him, so can't pine over it. But anyways, nice to see the NFL's Big Ten team get a little help. Henne has to be doing backflips right now.

Pick 43 is already in.

I sent pick 44 yesterday morning.

by Quez81 on Apr 14, 2010 9:45 AM EDT up reply actions

Hey Quez, Who were you planning on picking?

Would it be okay to post your pick with explanation anyway?

Hate to see that good work go to waste.

I know I'm like a day late.

I was planning on picking Mardy Gilyard with pick 44 but CapitolLions picked him. I took Damian Williams.

Sorry, that question should go to lionsfan64 or Sean.

It would be interesting to see if he was going to draft a WR. They certainly need another one.

He wouldn't have worked out in Detroit

Wherever Marshall goes too he wants to be the #1 guy, and in Detroit that would never happen. I don’t know if his ego would’ve let him play second fiddle to CJ. Good pick up for the Phins’, I’m glad to see they’re getting Henne some help outside of the busted Ted Ginn.

by motown313 on Apr 14, 2010 10:11 AM EDT reply actions

Man I would love to have seen the competition.

CJ is a monster in his own right but Marshall is too. Those two guys pushing themselves to not be out done or to play second string to other would have been awsome for on field production.

Three words

TOO MUCH BAGGAGE

and three more words

TOO F***ING EXPENSIVE

I don’t mean that two no 2’s isn’t a great deal for a pro bowler, cause it is. But second round picks are supposed to be starters, and I trust mayhew to make them starters, and you can’t go around trading two starters for a basketcase at a position that’s not amongst the top 5 or 6 needs. I know that not every 2nd round pick will turn out to be as awesome as Delmas, but for the sake of argument, could you imagine trading two Delmas’s for Marshall? I think we’re fine.

Two 1's makes 11

I don’t like the idea of having two No. 1 options at receiver. I love the way the team is building around Stafford and Calvin. A solid No. 2, a TE, find a guy to work in the slot. That is how offenses are built.

Bolden and Fitz are different kind of players, sure you can consider them both 1's but IMO very different style of players.

The prototypical number one receiver is the guy that can do it all. I dont really see that in Bolden. He is probably the greatest #2 receiver to ever play the game IMO, along with John Taylor from the 49ers. Both amazing players but lets face it. Bolden is no Fitzgerald or Johnson, in fact TO could pretty much measure up to him right now. Bolden just don’t have the wheels to be the deep threat most receivers are. Taylor had all of the tools but just could not get our of Jerry Rice’s shadow. Its like Stallworth and Swan. Maybe that is a better example for your point. I think your trying to say two guys that are equals but compliment each other, therefore both being considered an equal threat to the other defense, both number 1’s? That way I get it but there is only one deep threat usually. I guess the Rams greatest show on turf was a bit different. They had many deep threats. But even the great Washington teams, with Art Monk, he was never the down field guy. And that is why this year, if they take any receiver I hope it is Decker or Shiply, I see them guys as a great compliment to Calvin and Nate.

by Evilsmurf on Apr 14, 2010 8:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Good point

I just threw them out there cause Bolden was the #1 hands down before Fitz got there, kind of like Taylor was in SF. I just keep remembering the home opener at ford field when Charlie caught 2 TD’s and was out done by Bolden, who is now the #1 in Baltimore. But I know where your coming from.

With Marshall in Miami....

I think Ginn is outside looking in, as far as the WR position in Miami. Early reports are that Dolphins brass is hoping to recieve a fifth round draft pick in exchange for the former top ten pick. As strictly a return man I wouldn’t have a problem with parting ways with a late round 2011 pick for him…seeing as we already used most of are 2010 late round picks..

Henne has a friend...

thats going to be a serious threat for years much rather have him in Mia than NYJ or in the north.

by SmittyJ on Apr 14, 2010 11:27 AM EDT reply actions

wouldn't it be cheaper to....

just move down in the first round, and trade away that pick?

I bet there are a few teams that would’ve liked the chance to draft Dan Williams or Earl Thomas. But ya I like this move from Miami’s standpoint. Its a lot of baggage, but they immediately get a top 5 receiver for whats a relitavely cheap price

Definitely

His stats should go up big time now that his top WR isn’t Ted “I can get past the coverage but won’t catch the ball” Ginn.

Maybe now Miami will quit trying to run that damn Wildcat

now that they can actually try and move the ball in a more traditional offence.

the wildcat is a gimmick formation,

you can use it and be successful, but it can’t be your bread and butter, Defenses in the NFL will exploit it.

for sure

but hey when you’re starting wideouts are guys named Devone Bess and Greg Camarillo, and you are going up against the mighty Patriots or Jets defense, and you wish to win the game, what would you do…run a straight, predictible offense, or throw a curve ball?

Worst idea I ever saw out of any sports broadcast. I guess they were trying to keep up with the imaginary first down line in football. Thank God Basketball hasn’t tryed that yet. It would be like playing the old sega game. . . .He’s heating up. . . . HEEEEEE"SSSSS on FIIIIREEEE!

supposedly

they said the biggest complaint thay got from people(not avid fans) about watching hockey was they couldn’t keep up watching the puck. and they thought they could bring in new fans that way. colossal failure as a marketing ploy. all they did was piss off those fans they actually had.

by yooperlionfan on Apr 15, 2010 8:16 PM EDT up reply actions

If they want knew fans or should i say younger fans

Take away all these tick tack penalties and bring back some of the goon’s. With the evolution of MMA and all the variations of ultimate fighting, encourage fighting back in the league and let’s get back to 80’s and before that Hockey!!!! If all these young guns love to watch all the fighting, Bring back guys like Probert/Kocer/ etc etc etc.Let tham use their sticks in self defence again without the game misconduct’s and bring back REAL hockey not this pussified version that Betman has issued in to us. I can tell you know that little bitch’s like Crosby wouldn’t be acting like they were hot shit, cause his ass would have a target on him like yesterday.
