Wednesday Notes: Lito Sheppard to Visit Lions Today and Tomorrow
- Pro Football Talk first reported and Adam Schefter later confirmed that free agent cornerback Lito Sheppard is going to visit the Lions today and tomorrow. Sheppard was released by the Jets in March, just a year or so after being traded to New York by Philadelphia. There's no doubt that Sheppard struggled in the final part of his short-lived career with the Jets, but if the Lions are going to make a move before the draft to pick up a corner, I would take him over Pacman Jones any day. (Jason La Canfora reports that the Bears, Vikings, and Raiders "could emerge as suitors" for Sheppard.)
- The Broncos have reportedly traded Brandon Marshall to the Dolphins in exchange for a second-round pick this year and next year. This move happened at just about the perfect time as far as the POD Mock Draft goes, because the Dolphins' pick was set to be posted right around this time. Because of the trade, however, I am going to give that pick to Denver to keep the mock accurate. That pick and the 44th and 45th picks will be posted later in the day since we need to redo them behind the scenes.
- Connecticut cornerback Robert McClain visited the Lions yesterday.
- Today, according to John Niyo, is actually the last day to host potential picks for visits, so as I alluded to yesterday, look out for a visit tracker post in the immediate future.
- Kevin Seifert put together an interesting post breaking down the differences between Ndamukong Suh and Gerald McCoy.
- Dez Bryant has apparently been taken off more than just Jacksonville's draft board.

Thumbs up on Sheppard
He was a letdown for the Jets, but the Pacman signing looks pretty much dead, I would be happy to see Lito sign here if he can improve.

Heres my take Sean
The Lions could, and very well may, sign Lito sheppard BEFORE the draft and then sign Adam Jones AFTER the draft. I think both acquisitions would be far superior to what we had last year, plus it would allow us to take more of a chance on a corner in the draft if they so desire (IE Patrick Robinson, who may need some coaching to become a starting caliber CB in the NFL, and who also may be available in the 3rd round, or another 3rd round or later CB prospect). That could potentially free us up to feel safer taking the 2nd round RB, when we have such a glaring need in the defensive backfield.
If the Lions were to sign Sheppard, I could see Drew’s mock pick 34 being correct (if our FO and coaching staff did not think we would be better off with Best or Dwyer). It would certainly take some of the pressure off of the almost requisite need to draft a CB high.
Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!
good post kdawg
I could see them signing both to. They need to find a way to fill the rb RB void also and this may be the solution…

I agree
I say we pick up Lito Sheppard pre draft. Then, I think how the first round plays out is definately related to the possibility of pacman being a Lion. Say Wilson, McCourty, Robinson or Jackson falls to us in Round 2, I believe they will be drafted as a Lion. Then I highly doubt we would sign Pacman. However, if those corners fly off the board in Round 1, we take Jahvid Best round 2, and sign Pacman as our #2 or 3 corner. Regardless, I definately think Pacman to the Lions is not dead, but they wont make a move until they see how the draft plays out. Also, no way we trade our 2, or 3 for Marshawn Lynch, which is what they are asking for. If we were going to part ways with our second round pick, I would only like to see us trade for DeAngelo Williams. I know its unlikely, and I know that Carolina said they arent shopping him, but almost a first round pick may change their mind since Jonathan Stewart has showed he can carry the load.
in other news, aaron hernandez visiting lions today
tons of TEs have visited allen park so far……….looks like we’ll be taking one between 34-100

If Bryant fell to us I'd sharpen his skates and tell him to slide on by.
We have bigger needs and another 1st round rated talent will find their way to us in the 2nd round.

Anyone know what happened to the POD mock today?
I hopped on to see what the picks were for today and there’s none up.
Sean said something about it in the post
Miami traded away their pick so things needed to be reworked…

better get
him before he leaves tomorrow.. the CB position would be stable for 2010. Then we work on the OL, DL, RB, and BAP for the first picks of the draft … or a trade down to gain more picks… the 7th rounders would be hoping to because starters or practice squad material?
GO LIONS in 2010! the transformation starts now.. they have much to do.
I'd probably be up for Sheppard
I don’t see him being a foundation for our backfield.

Lito Sheppard
I say we sign him a 2 or 3 year deal that ways we have the starter spot filled with him and Chris Houston, and also he would bring experience and leadership to the Lions locker room for all the young CBs and that would help them develop better and possiably quicker! I pray we get the sheppard!
