Casey FitzSimmons retires...
According to Killer, Casey Fitzsimmons has announced his retirement today at the age of 29. The concussions that he has suffered throughout his career are noted as the reason for the early retirement.
Pretty sad, as FitzSimmons seemed to thoroughly love the game and was a solid contributor when healthy, wether on offense of special teams. Not too sure what this means for the Lions, as we already have Pettigrew, Heller, and Gronkowski, as well as all of the tight ends we have brought in for looks for the upcoming draft. Perhaps that is why the Lions have been examining these prospects, is because they already knew FitzSimmons was done for.

Always liked Fitz, but...
I was sad that he never really took that next step to be a premier TE. Great hands, but just a below average blocker. Too bad about the retirement. I guess we’re in line for another TE now…..
+1
I liked him as a special teamer and loathed him as a starter. I’ve been advocateing for him to go for a long time because he is avg at the very best as a starter. I like Grew as the season went on as he was holding on to more balls and not dropping them like the rest of the crew. Gron I think can be good if given a chance and hell he has an upside compared to Fitzy who plateued. I love our TE depth and I hope in the future for Gron to step up and be a beast. You never want to see a go out to injury and I wish him the best but in the same token I’m glad so we can see what Gron is made up of.

Best wishes to him...
…it’s better to walk away from the game now than to risk facing memory problems such as alzheimers later in life. This does shed more light on why the Lions have hosted several TE’s in Allen Park, as well.
man...that stinks
That was my Montana boy… Played against him in high-school, he played 8 man football. Ha ha that’s great shit he’s a country boy so he prolly was fairly smart with his money…

the writing was on the wall
i kinda figured he was gone one way or another. thanks for the effort casey.
good luck fitz
Guy has some good hands. We have 3 very talented TE’s now so I am not to worried about depth.
Louis Delmas is gonna lay the MAC down on your candyass.

3?
My last count was Pettigrew and Heller. Gronkowski has shown to be nothing special, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t make the roster. Jake Nordin got the nod over him towards the end of the season.

willing to say gron has showin he IS nothing special…In his rookie year and he had fitz to play behind…sorry not buyin into that. He has to be givin a real shot at playing time before you can really make that call I thin.

I loved Casey, great guy in the community, I hope he sticks around for life after football.
He was a guy that always played above his talent due to his work ethic and heart. I would suspect the Lions knew this for some time as they have been bringing tight ends in. Ed Dickson from Oregon, I really want this guy but we may not be able to get him. He is a total freak at 250 lbs. he is 4.4 40s speed and great hands. Needs work on blocking but I am sure he can learn it. Can use him as an H back or go two tight set instead of putting a slot guy out there. Dickson can cause a lot of cool stuff to happen in formation matchups.
Yea im a Montana boy too.
sad to see this happen i loved the fact that he came up from a very small class c school in montana all the way up to the pros…. thanks casey and gool luck in your future.
Good luck to him
Means a TE in the draft me thinks.

good player for us...
never really took it to the next level like we all wished but really never had a QB, Joey, Kitna, and a handful of others not worth mentioning.
Good luck to him and his family
Life is a waste of time and time is a waste of life... so lets get wasted all the time and have the time of our lives!
good for him
too many guys with the concussion issues try and stay too long. this way he can enjoy his family and i wish him nothing but the best.
good luck
it also could be why the front office has been bringing some in for evaluation

I hope we don't draft a TE
It’s one of the only positions where we have no need whatsoever. Pettigrew and Heller are capable starters and Gronkowski can sub them and play ST. If there are any injuries just pick up someone for the min. 3 TEs is all we need.

As stated before, a TE Like Oregons Ed Dickson would add a lot to the team.

This guy is basically like a third WR out there, think Vernon Davis. He can cause a lot of havoc on defensive schemes and would take pressure off of Derrick Williams and Arron Brown, or other 3rd Receivers. By playing a two tight set with Pettigrew, Dickson, C. Johnson, Burlesson It could get real interesting. Keep in mind that you can put Heller and Felton in the mix too for catches, and with Smith or Brown in the backfield they can catch too. Play action in a goal line set with that kind of personnel would be lethal. You would never know who was running, catching, or blocking.
Good point!!!!!!!!
I loved the goal line set scenario you used as an example. God knows as long as we have Raiola we will never be able to QB sneak it in.

all of my best to Casey and his family...
….thanx for all of your efforts – and, considering your history, congrats on a surprisingly successful performance (how many drafted recievers have stayed with our team lately? – sorry you’ll miss out on your SB ring.
