2010 NFL Draft: Lions Make Tim Toone This Year's Mr. Irrelevant
For the second time in four years, the Lions have selected Mr. Irrelevant, the final pick of the draft. Ramzee Robinson was taken with the final pick of the draft by the Lions back in 2007, and he actually was with the team up until last year. This year the Lions decided to select Weber State wide receiver Tim Toone with the final pick of the draft, making him Mr. Irrelevant and the main man at Irrelevant Week 2010.
This year's selection of the final draft pick on Saturday, April 24th will launch Irrelevant Week 2010, which will be held June 21st through the 25th. That week, the player and his family will be hosted by the organization for a week of activities, including an Arrival Party at the local Newport Dunes Resort and a fund-raising roast delivered by celebrity guests at a banquet on June 23rd.
Toone is the fifth Mr. Irrelevant the Lions have drafted in their history. In addition to he and Robinson, the Lions picked Mr. Irrelevant in 1958 (Tommy Bronson), 1954 (Ellis Horton), and 1953 (Hal Maus).
As for Toone, he is receiver on the shorter side, but based on my quick search for info on him, it looks like he is a pretty good returner. It's way too early to predict if he will have a shot at making the team or anything like that, but I wouldn't be surprised if he makes the practice squad and someday is elevated to the active roster for his special teams skills.

I am sooooooooooo dreadin' my hair!
I’ll look just like this guy. Wear some Lions gear to the bar, say my name is Tim, get some free beer for it, pull some chicks because of it….
Tim was the name on my fake ID that worked everywhere, too. This is a sign, people
Life is a waste of time and time is a waste of life... so lets get wasted all the time and have the time of our lives!
Tim Toone has talent
can hold and return punts too
He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is
Little tidbit from his pro day
Receiver Tim Toone, known more as possession wide out, posted a time of 4.45 seconds.
If you look at his highlights, all the players just seem so slow

Great Blue North Sleeper File
http://www.gbnreport.com/sleeperfile.html
11. WR/PR Tim Toone, Weber State; 5-9, 175, 4.42 … For the most part when looking for sleeper WRs we’ve focused on the search for the next Marques Colston, however, today we’re looking for the next Wes Welker and may have found a clone at Weber State in WR Tim Toone who isn’t all that big at just 5-9, 175, but he runs track for the school and has been timed in the 4.4 range for the 40. Toone is also very quick, runs precise routes and has excellent hands. Indeed, he caught 167 passes in the 2008-2009 seasons during which he averaged ove 15 yards per catch and scored 17 times as he showed the ability both to get deep as well as find the soft spots undereath as a third down possession receiver. For good measure Toone also emerged as a dangerous punt breturner last fall when he averaged almost 20 yards per return and returned 2 kicks for scores before teams started to punt away from him. Lack of prototype size will obviously be an issue for Toone along with the fact that he competed against lower level competition. Toone is also a little older than the average prospect as he did a two-year LDS mission and turned 25 this winter.
He was on a mission to West Africa for two years
We can probably trade him to Denver for a 2nd or 3rd round pick tomorrow then.

All in all though
he looks like a solid type of a quick returner slot type of a guy. He’ll have to make it work better than another old fan favorite of David Kircus

Agree
Bring in those local guys. I imagine, in general, they’d prefer to stay close to home until they get settled.

Is it just me
Or could this guy be a fan favorite if he makes the roster? Same thing as Follett.
Oh, and Northcutt?? “SNIP!”
Maybe they can sign this guy from WSU too!
Former WSU defensive back Josh Morris has also gained interest from NFL teams after a great showing at WSU’s pro timing day, which followed an outstanding season when he proved to be a shut-down cornerback.
I wonder if thier coach is any relation to Turk McBride>
Since McBride became WSU’s head coach prior to the 2005 season, he has seen a handful of his players reach the NFL. Paul McQuistan (Jacksonville), Pat McQuistan (Dallas), Dave Hale (Baltimore), Marcus Mailei (New Orleans), J.D. Folsom (Miami), Dimitri Tsoumpas (Miami) and Bo Smith (New York Jets) are all currently on NFL rosters.
How fun was that ?
O.K., maybe we got some " hands " here. This little dude, one big one up front and something in the middle. Overall, a B +. Nice job – EVERYONE ! Hey, with the Redwings winning and this excellent draft, do you think Mike Ilitch will send over a truck load of Little Caesars to Allen Park to celebrate ? I know my recycle barrel is full of empty Hot-N-Ready pizza boxes. DETROIT RULES !

Looks like a lot of teams wanted this guy as an undrafted free agent
2010 NFL Draft Officially Mayhew'd
Wow! Been following this blog for a couple weeks now…love it; love the banter; love the bull shit; and most importantly love the Lions. 21 years of caring for this team is finally going to pay off. Someday we’ll be that team that who has those fans that have waited so long for a winning team; and can’t wait to tell everyone who gave us grief to lick balls. I will be one of those individuals…
Thank goodness Mayhew and Schwartz showed up when they did. Millen…well someone might want to go check to see if that guy isn’t swinging from the tracks of his garage door opener. Can’t imagine the embarrassment….
If he wasn't Mormon I'm sure he'd be getting hammer Toonenight...
unless the kick is a jack-mormom. Then let the good times roll…
he's got dreds and went to school with a bunch of heathens at weber state
something tells me he isn’t wearing his super power underpants

Any one else notice in the first video
he’s the placeholder, too. Possible trickeration and stuff. Replace Nick Harris as holder.
Why the hell is a punter the holder? Thats a 3rd string QB/RB/WR job. Make special teams a lil special.

Ugh I was at that game
good thing I was taking a crap when that happened

I gotta say, I like it
He’s a character, a bit fun. Plus, he may be able to help in the future. I’m gonna post my draft grades soon, but at first blush, I’m thinking a high grade for us, at least a B.

"Mr. Irrelevant"
So if you wouldn’t be surprised if he’s elevated to the active roster, just how is he “irrelevant”? I think that’s a cliched and played-out term to apply to the newest member of the Detroit Lions. Just my opinion though.

I predict Tim Toon will be relevant !
