Michael Moore a receiver?

I imagined a specialty long-snapper/Grady Jackson.

by ZWC11 on Apr 24, 2010 9:30 PM EDT reply actions

I like this pick up...

His numbers weren’t that hot this past season, but had better numbers in 2008 with a different QB (a guy by the name of Matthew Stafford who was taken #1 in the draft last year). Hopefully, the two of them can get back some of that chemistry. Moore would look really nice in the slot and he may actually know how to catch the ball.

I don’t know much about anyone on the list, but if you can get a receiver and a quarterback with previous chemistry it should help out on the field.

I guess they saw Michael Moore hook up with Staff pretty well. in last years Capitol One Bowl.

Stafford hooked up with Michael Moore multiple times in that game.

For some good game video on him here are some links.

Receptions video

Blocking Video

Its obvious from the video he’s a tough WR who will play best in the slot and run-block very well. Not much of a vertical threat but will make catches in traffic and doesn’t drop the ball much.

Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.

Aaron Berry is a beast. . .

i live in harrisburg, pa where aaron berry went to high school at Bishop McDevitt High School, my alma matter. . .where i have heard his name for almost seven years. . .he has great skills as a Corner as well as great skills in the return game. . .i am shocked he wasn’t drafted because at Pitt, he was the leader of that defense and a human highlight reel. . .i know many people haven’t heard of him, but do some research. . .he is no doubt a beast

You guys must all be under 45, because in my 45 years about 20 of them have been wasted getting excited by Lions picks like Gronk or MMoore. I for one was excited about Suh and think the rest of our draft was lousy. Come on MM prove me wrong. Still have my tickets and will watch and hope.

by toledogolf on Apr 25, 2010 7:51 AM EDT reply actions

Yeah

I remember reading the post-draft reports the last decade and hearing how the Lions got another A or B rating. I don’t want to go into what ended up happening.

Suh is awesome. He is worth 2 or 3 players.

Best is good. His highlight reel is amazing (as highlight reels tend to be. someone should put up a lowlight reel for comparison. Plays where he runs into a blocker or gets hit for a loss). Best also put up some crazy numbers. 1 td for every 12 or 13 touches as a feature back. Sure he is an injury concern, but I think he was worth the flyer.

Spievey (or however you spell it) looks like a good fit to our system. Aggressive corner who plays against the run. Sounds like he can get into trouble if he doesnt have a safety over the top.

The rest seem like also-rans and practice squad bodies. There is no Sam Hill or Follet to get excited about.

by ATL Lion on Apr 25, 2010 8:59 AM EDT up reply actions

You gotta like what Yarno says about Fox.
"We’re excited about getting Jason—this is a kid who was a four-year starter at Miami," Lions offensive line coach George Yarno said. "He can play either tackle and, even though he’s tall at 6-foot-7, we think he can play guard as well. Right now, we’re looking at him as our third tackle."

by JCruize on Apr 25, 2010 10:11 PM EDT up reply actions

What has you excited about Follet??

I know he is cool and all but what has he done to help the defense?? What makes you think he will ever play?? I hope he does well but just because Fox doesn’t have the personality that Follett does doesn’t mean he is garbage.

by ATL Lion on Apr 27, 2010 3:34 PM EDT up reply actions

A lousy draft? Really...

Suh. Best player period. We got him. I cried I was so happy
Best. Homerun threat we’ve been lacking a long long time. Great pick.
Spievey. Tough corner that can TACKLE! Nuff said
Fox. Great 4th round value and OL depth. Possible starter if he regains his form from injury.
Seventh rounders are just that, but I have no problems with who they picked, and the positions they play all fit needs, if for nothing more than depth.

I couldn’t be happier with this draft. And we picked up an extra pick next year…

Just livin' the dream...

i agree with you

i feel the same toledo, not excited about anyone other than suh, unless you include Sims, the guard we got from Seattle. However, the 2010 lions will be better than the 2008 lions, so i like the trajectory. maybe we’ll see a second playoff win in our lifetime.

You totally have a point. Anyone who has followed the Lions for over thirty years has every right to be cynical. But when evaluating this years draft don’t forget that Mayhew traded a 5th rounder for Rob Sims, a player who will start at RG this year. Mayhew also traded a 5th rounder for Corey Williams, a DT who will start this year. And he traded a 6th rounder for Chris Houston, a CB who will start this year. Sean had a great post on Saturday outlining exactly what players we acquired due to draft picks. Check it out here.

I have a hunch that Ryan Stamper might be the sleeper linebacker that Gunther Cunningham was talking about, when he said he found a linebacker that was completely under the radar. He played alongside Spikes and lead the team in tackles. He wasn’t invited to the combine and was injured for the East-West Shrine game so he is the definition of a sleeper. Urban Meyer called him the leader of the linebackers and said he always knew where to be. Gunther Cunningham said that Spikes was off the board because he was “too slow”, maybe he saw Stamper when he was scouting Spikes and decided he was the real talent.

six-foot-four, 260-pound Ihekwoaba heads to Detroit after missing much of last season after suffering a shoulder injury in the third game of the year. The injury certainly didn’t bother him at the CFL evaluation camp in March as he bench-pressed 225 pounds 23 times, posted a 40-yard dash time of 4.78-seconds and a 41-inch vertical jump that was second-best among camp attendees.

Anyone else a little surprised...

…that only two linebackers have been signed? Not that I’m expecting the Lions to find a starter as an undrafted rookie free agent, but it seems like very minimal activity on this front considering they traded Sims and let Foote move on. I know the team is high on Levy, but considering they did not address the LB position in the draft I guess I would have figured they would have a few more of these guys coming in for the rookie camp this weekend.

Not one safety either?
