Calab Campbell vs. Adam Jones
Considering that either one of them are currently on the roster but both will more than likely land in Detroit, with Campbell already being invited to rookie minicamp and rumor's been swarming around Jones...
Two different type of players, Two different positions, both have been out of football for at least a year and both want back into the game. My question is who has a better chance to make the team and who will have the biggest impact. Where does Campbell play S or LB?

I think they both have a good shot at making the team. I’d have Campbell play LB, we could deffinately use him there.

I think it is about dead even really
They were both talented and both have been out of it for a while. We also have a need at any positions in question, LB, S, CB. Of course I am rooting for them both too, feel good stories for teh win.
Agree, although those positions only need depth...
LB Follett this kid has something to prove and im all for letting him prove it, S Bullocks, Simpson, and Phillips (Manuel and White) i would love to add a vet (Sharper) b/c out of all those one has to be a good mate for Delmas down the road, CB Houston #1 with Spievey/King and possible Jones in a good fight for the right to start.
I LOVE Caleb Campbell
but come on, guys, this isn’t even close. One is a former 7th round pick who didn’t play a down in the NFL, one is a former top 10 pick who was a pro bowler and is still only 26 years old. I hope they both make the team, but there’s no reason to think that Campbell is more likely to make it than Jones.
thank you.

I think Caleb will make the roster but he could be a squad guy too.

i thought when he was drafted...
he was supposed to have 2nd/3rd round talent but teams were unwilling to spend a draft choice on him due to his uncertain status w/ the military
He was awesome at army and was prjected in the 3rd and 4th

Im convinced that he has turned his life around...
but more convinced that if Schwartz doesn’t move alot quicker we could lose him. He let it be known that he wants to play in Detroit, a wife to be and a child on the way at this point in his life why throw all of that away (football but most importantly family). YO SCHWARTZ IF YOUR READING THIS SIGN THE DAMN KID ALREADY….
How is Adam Jones likely to be a Lion?
If anything it looks a lot morel like he’s NOT gonna be a Lion. Do you actually have any evidence to back this claim up, or are you just being wishful?
If you read the articles.
He has stayed in contact with Schwartz over the years texting him at least once a month. He has said he would take a veteran minimum contract that is incentive based. he has said that he wants to talk to the Detroit FO about coming here. He has said he thinks detroit would be a good fit for him and this is the team he would like to be with. He has been put off by the Lions continually, wait till after roster cuts, wait till after free agent tenders, wait till after the draft, now it is wait till after rookie mini camps. Honestly I am starting to get upset at how the front office is jerking him around and I have a feeling its coming from Mayhew, Mr. Clever himself. Well Mayhew has done good recently but he was also a part of all that junk that happened under Millen, and if we lose a good player because someone lets their ego get in the way I am gonna be upset. Schwartz told him “keep the faith”. Of course it is all speculation but I believe it is likely if Mayhew stops being a candy ass and pulls the trigger.
We don't operate on his clock though
Bottom line is no one else wants him I think Mayhews is in a lets see if we even need this guy or not.

To be frank,
nobody gives a shit whether or not he feels he’s a good fit. I do agree that it’s messed up the way we’ve been leading him on, and Schwartz’s comment about “keep your head up and keep the faith” is, as I said on another post, to me a half-ass apology for leading the poor guy on for this long and having him pay a trainer for two-a-day workouts believing he was gonna get signed.
I’m absolutely not against signing him, as I’ve said on numerous other posts. I definitely think he would be an upgrade over most of our DB’s. However, I’m being realistic, and realistically by this point the fact that we haven’t offered any kind of a contract leads me to believe that we probably never will.
Leading on a potential free agent is unprofessional, and a bad idea for Detroit.
Players take notice of things like this- Detroit would be wise to either sign the guy or tell him flat out “No thanks”. Despite the appearance that our stock is rising in the league, Detroit is still a tough sell to lots of the league’s talent.
"Take it off the rack, if it's wack, put it back. I like the Whopper, fuck the Big Mac." - Rob Base, It Takes Two, 1988
Not too sure I agree with that.
I don’t think we can/should look at Jones as a “regular” free agent, because he really is far from it. I think he’s lucky just to get a work out, and if we didn’t like what we saw then so be it, I’m not on the inside, so all I can do is speculate, but I’m sure we didn’t invite him or check out his workout without any interest at all. He was lucky to get the chance, IMO.
I’m sure veterans (free agents) would all like to go to classy organizations. But in the end, most of the time (again, IMO), veterans will either follow the $$$ or be looking for that SB, that’s just an observation that I’ve made, I’ve seen teams toy with players, and have no negative effect for their future business decisions.
I agree Skylar, and Mowtown it is definately up for debate what exactly Schwartz meant, none of us really know
I was just pointing out what my thoughts on it were. It seems like Jones and Schwartz are close and if he did not have a shot he would have been shut down by now too. As much evidence that he is not going to be signed points to him being signed, its how it goes with the current, hold your cards close to the vest, Lions management. There is a a point and counter point for each stance and it is all opinion and at an impasse. For every Dallas fan that says he cant play there is one that said they wanted him to stay. For every speculation that Jerry Jones wanted him gone there is interviews with Jones that say otherwise.
The real point is this, like you said, stop jerking the guy around, either sign him or let him move on. Anyone can agree that Schwartz was encouraging him and offering moral support. Since all desires and talks and articles have been in regards to him coming to Detroit I took the comment into context that “keep the faith” meant that if he believes in himself and keeps at it that in fact will happen. I didn’t take it as an apology at all I took it as encouragement.
And all the hoops may very well be to test his resolve and maturity.
Actually
He was rated and a 3rd or 4th round pick but he played for Army so it basicly scared everyone off. I think we took more of a flyer on him hoping he would be able to play.

sorry, but i say we stay as far away as possible from adam jones
he may have reformed and all that, but you stick with good-character football players. this guy does not deserve to be on the inside of our brand new foundation. if he implodes, we’re far away from the burning wreckage. if not, whatever. there will be plenty more DBs. let’s not sacrifice our integrity. i have a positive feeling with the new FO.
If we followed a zero tolerance policy then they should not have drafted Spievey who had a bad spot in his college history.
It is not a big deal to take someone who made mistakes, as another poster pointed out, Adam was not involved in near the idiocy of many of the current NFL players. The key is making sure that the incident is a thing of the past and not still an issue.
lol
the point of taking him is he will take league minium and we can cut him anytime theres no reason not to take him unless we dont think he can produce

Mayhew ....Gym Shorts..... SIGN HIM ....
mark this as my approval of PAC MAN…….please lets win some effing games this yr……go lions..
I have never seen campbell play
so I can’t provide any insight into his impact. Adam would be a good nickel back and PR, and I would like to have him on the team.
