Poison Pill???

I just wanted to share an article that i found on PFT about the Lions. They are talking about how if the Lions really, really wanted Anthony Hargrove from the Saints they could insert a "poison pill" in the contract that would make the saints not want to even touch the guy anymore.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/04/03/lions-might-get-creative-in-offer-to-hargrove/

I wouldn't like to see them do something like that. Its kind of like opening a can of worms, and although we dont really have any worthwhile RFA that they could steal, I think the Saints really like Hargrove and wouldn't forget about it in the future if the Lions did that.

Right on

I think the whole Hargrove deal is a smoke screen any ways. Mayhew is probally trying to get hargrove a raise.

I think you could be right. The fact that he there buddies, and that he hasn’t move on this maybe he’s doing the same thing for Pacman creating some interest for them

Accourding too Who Dat nation

Yes, yes he is. Since I’ve been over there the last few days/nights doing my mock draft homework, they are pretty high on him.

There are a few over there

That feel he is the best guy on the D-line in general, so I really don’t know why we have not pulled the trigger on Hargrove just yet. If we could add Suh and Hargrove to KVB and Williams/SLH not only would we have a dominant set of starters on the line but even our rotation guys would be pretty damn good.

it's so weird.

some of the people on there have been saying he has already signed his tender, while that is obviously not true.
rumors are afloat.

Poison pill

with Hargrove? no, we’d still have to give up compensation which is what NO is really after
with a RFA with a ROFR tag (OJ Atogwe!)? YES

I'm not crazy about hargrove this "poision pill"

sounds like dirty pool to me. while I think mayhew has done a awsome job so far you don’t want to make enemies out of other GMs in the leauge because come trade time wether it be the draft or next off-season it could leave some sore feelings while I could care less what the saints think of us I don’t wanna start eliminating potential trade partners in the future.

What you describe is common practice.

Very often teams will put language in the contract that makes a ‘matching offer’ virtually impossible.

I think Hargrove will sign his tender. He won't be a Lion
