Monday Notes: Pride of Detroit Selects Jahvid Best in SB Nation Mock Draft
- With the 34th pick of the 2010 SB Nation Mock Draft, I selected Jahvid Best for the Lions. You can check out my full explanation for the pick over at Mocking The Draft.
- NFL Network's Gil Brandt thinks the Lions want to trade down from the second overall pick, and Peter King believes that is "the best draft rumor at this point."
- Deji Karim, a running back from Southern Illinois, is going to visit the Lions or work out for the team, according to National Football Post.
- Also according to National Football Post, Danny Batten, an outside linebacker from South Dakota State, is going to privately work out for the Lions.
- Take it for what it's worth, but PFT's Mike Florio reports that Rob Sims could be traded to the Lions or Bears this week.
- During the Panthers' last game of the 2008 season, Landon Johnson forced a fumble on a kickoff and Dante Wesley returned it for a touchdown. Both players are now on the Lions.
- Just an FYI: Look for the NFL's 2010 schedule to be announced at 7:00 p.m. on April 13. Currently there is an "NFL Schedule Release Special" set to be aired on ESPN2 at that time on April 13, according to the TV listings. I bet the NFL is extremely happy that the Donovan McNabb trade went down when it did, because you can bet networks will now want to air the Redskins-Eagles matchups this year.
- Cliff Avril sees 2010 as his "make-or-break year."
- Shaun Rogers was arrested last week after forgetting that he had a gun in one of the bags that he tried to take through airport security.
- NFL Network pranked Shawne Merriman on April Fools' Day last week. Most of the jokes on April Fools' Day were either completely lame or completely unrealistic, but this was a pretty good one.
- Today is baseball's official opening day. For all of the latest on the Tigers, check out Bless You Boys.

Great pick
This seems like a no-brainer to me, if McCourty and Wilson are both off the board, we have to take Best. With or without durability issues he’s simply too much of a talent to let pass, and along with K-Smith will give the Lions a respectable ground attack. I love it.
Matthews is just as good....
….I also like Dwyer.

schefter reporting:
Seahawks trade sims to the Lions
@Adam_Schefter
Another trade filed to ESPN: Seattle traded guard Rob Sims to Detroit. So the Lions improve their offensive line.
didn’t say what the compensation will be
It was a pretty good April Fool's joke
Shoulda seen Merriman’s face…lol
