Draft , Free Agent or Trade

With Detroit needing DL, OL,RB, LB, CB, and S and not in that order what is the next move for the Lions.

Star-divide

Jared Gaither, Alex Brown, Ken Hamlin, Marshawn Lynch, Lito Sheppard, and Antonio Pierce all either UFA or RFA does Detroit make a move for any of them before or after the draft. With Lynch not being a UFA or RFA but just not wanted and not wanting to be does Detroit try to get him for a future draft pick based on his performance or leave him alone. With talk of signing already troubled Adam Jones does Detroit gamble on a guy like Lynch or Jones to better there team. Jared Gaither doesn't want to be traded and stated he wants to remain in the area he lives and attended school, yet another gamble with trying to sign him long term. Brown, Sheppard, and Pierce are all over 30 but still productive do we bring one of them in for a short term fix, it will allow us to develope younger talent and gives us more time to be better in those areas. Now i know most of the fans want to draft Suh and i was one of them, but after reading different postings in POD and out i've come to realize that he would be the second highest paid player on our roster and only playing 2 out of 4 downs. Also with 42 million invested in Stafford and a questionable line is it the right pick. With thin talent in the secondary do we go after Berry? I'm curious to what you think and if anyone has a clue of whats going on in Mayhews head.

I'm all in

On taking Suh. I think he completes an area in the field. If we take him we have our defensive line, and depth behind it to the point where I think we could cross that off our list. We could then focus on other areas. I’m also under the belief that Suh will also be beneficial to our secondary. With him being double teamed, it gives our other lineman to put pressure on the qb forcing the ball out earlier.I think a huge problem with our corners last year was no pressure so they had to run around too much, and that’s almost always advantage offense.
Now in terms of free agents, it all depends on the 2nd round pick for me. I am hoping for Wilson Or McCourtney to fall, I just doubt it will happen. So I expect us to take Jahvid Best or Ryan Matthews if he falls. If one of the corners are available we take them. If we do take the rb, I’m not opposed to Lito Sheppard. I always liked him, and Think he would be am upgrade.
Also, I kinda like the idea of bringing in Hamlin. I think he is descent, and the Safety position is one where if you have one dominant one, the other can be just okay. That’s the only reason I like Suh over Berry. I think Delmas can make his other safety look better than he really is.
That’s the only signings I would like to see, but that’s just me.

good points

I love Suh on the line it just doesn’t seem right to sign him to a Stafford size contract for 2 downs, Hamlin is a good fit i do agree, Delmas will make him look better just like R. Williams made him better. I total agree w/ taking Mathews if he falls not sold on Best but i have to say i would try and get Lynch some good points made on him as far as skill and value and what we could get him for thus upgrading a need now for a next year draft pick. I’d be all in for Suh if they got Lynch it would allow us to skip on a RB in the second and beable to address the CB in the 3rd or 4th so we could take OL w/ the second.

Good catch...

I like all 3 of these players and think all of them come in and make us better now. Gaither and Lynch are still young and have lots of football left in them.

Lynch

Would be probably most likely at this point I think we already had Lito in town a few months ago if I remember right. Gaither would be good but with Sims in town now it seems less likely.

Louis Delmas is gonna lay the MAC down on your candyass.

I could live with Lynch in our back field...

Gaither talk was some bs to motivate him to come into offseason workout. If Lynch comes to town do we address the OL depth or CB depth in the 2nd.

CB

we need starters in the secondary still. Sims will really help sure up that O-line we can get more big guys in the later rounds we need another playmaker in the D back field.

Would love Lynch

he is a stud and is still young. Would not have to worry about Kevin Smith rushing back either.

I'm not real sure about Lynch

But I like the idea of Hamlin. Out two weakest spots appear to be CB and RB, those are the ones we need to address after 2.

Hamlin

Pro Bowler. Him and Ware were the heart of the Cowboys defense, he’d be a great pick up.

on further review

he’s been in decline the past couple years. In conclusion, Lynch if he can act right. If we sign Pacman and Lynch… yikes.

Alot of Hamlin's declining issues is due to the departure of Roy...

he’s only 28 so still has some years left but pair him up w/ Delmas and watch the incline. As for Lynch and Jones it could be yikes, but don’t really see them persueing Jones that strongly anymore could be waiting to see what we pull from draft. Lynch needs a change i believe he’s going to mature hopefully in Detroit.

I say we draft for those needs, we've made enough trades

Would be nice ...

but some needs could be taking care before the draft that way were getting bpa and not finding ourselfs drafting for need.

I would not trade for any of these guys except Gaither, Sheppard might be worth it but your going to get another guy that dont like to run support.

Gaither is only worth it IMO if you get him for a 3rd rounder. I guarantee someone of real value will slide to round two and I do not want to give up on that prospect for Gaither.

Sheppard is going to be similar to Buchanon so its not a long term solution.

Offer the 7th rd picks

Maybe we get lucky and teams really want to unload these guys. Keep all of our top-100 picks
