Should This or Will This Happen???

This past week, we learned a few things.........Albert Haynesworth is on the block, Donovan McNabb is going to be a Redskin, Anthony Hargrove is staying a New Orlean Saint, the Lions filled their need at LG, and the Browns still have no franchise QB. So what does this all mean for the Lions? Well, read on........

I think that when draft day rolls around, the Lions will be the most active team when it comes to trades. They have been very active this off-season, but the draft will really be crazy. First off, at this point, I don't know if the Lions choose either Russell Okung or Ndamukong Suh, I think they are going to be trading down with Cleveland and drafting one of four guys: Joe Haden, Eric Berry, Earl Thomas, or CJ Spiller. Cleveland is in dire need of a franchise QB after missing out on the Donovan McNabb sweepstakes and trading Brady Quinn. However, rumor has it that they love Jimmy Clausen. I think Clausen would be great for their "West Coast Offense". The Lions will also acquire another second round and fourth round pick from the Browns as well. From there, the Lions will trade this year's third and a later pick for this year or next year for Albert Haynesworth. It is somewhat ironic that the Lions just let Anthony Hargrove sign with the Saints without even giving him an offer when they had so much interest, but then after finding out Haynesworth was on the block, everything became clear. Some may be concerned about Haynesworth's lack of effort and poor work ethic, but no way will Haynesworth go half speed for former coach Jim Schwartz. After all, Schwartz is the reason Haynesworth is the highest paid DT in this league. The Lions then have their d-line solidified at DT, with a very solid rotation of Sammie Hill, Corey Williams, and Albert Haynesworth.

Without a need at LG, we don't have to draft an OT or try and trade up for a guy like Iupati; our offensive line is solidified. With drafting a DB or RB in the first round, it fills one of our two biggest needs. If this is really what Mayhew and Co. are planning on, we could even see a playoff run this season and a possibly an NFC North title. Only 3 weeks away until the draft. Could this be glory? Tell me what you guys think........

It's all about....

…whether the Browns feel that Clausen is their guy and they CAN’T pass on him. They could technically pass on the whole QB thing this year with Delhomme there. OR they could draft McCoy later if he drops…or one of the other QBs even to have them train under Delhomme. I just don’t see them being THAT eager to move to the #2. I could be wrong.

It’d be nice if we picked up Haynesworth, but I think it’s unlikely.

I can't see the Browns making that trade.

Who are they bypassing by coming up to number 2 to take Clausen? If they want him he will be there when they come up to pick at number 7.

I am unsure about Haynesworth but since the skins will be eating the 21mil this year and we would only be on the hook for i think something like 9mil and have the option to cut him after the next two seasons if he doesn’t produce i wouldn’t mind seeing us pick him up for a 3rd if we some how managed to make that Browns trade and had an extra 2nd and 4th to play with in this draft.

They will have to bypass the Seahawks......

And for some odd reason there is a rumor the Chiefs want Clausen even though they invested all that money into Matt Cassell last year. I think they also have to be aware of teams such as the Bills who are trying to trade up. That is the reason the Jets traded up so high last year; they needed to be careful of teams trying to trade up before them.

This is according to ESPN...

However, the Washington Post and the Grand Rapids Press says that they are still actively shopping Haynesworth.

Two ways that Cleveland trades up

one would be to get ahead of Seattle, but they could swap with someone else at 3,4 or 5. The other way I could see them trading up is if Buffalo or Oakland loves Clausen and moves up around the 3,4 or 5 spot. So then the Browns trade with the Lions to get ahead of the team that trades up.

We should just take a cheaper deal, like swap firsts and get their 2nd and 5th rounder.
I think the draft could look like this:

1.St. Louis-Sam Bradford,QB
2.Cleveland – Jimmy Clausen,QB
3.Tampa Bay – Ndamukong Suh,DT
4.Washington – Russell Okung,OT
5.Buffalo – Gerald McCoy,DT
6.Seattle – Trent Williams,OT
7.Detroit – Eric Berry,S
34.Detroit – Kareem Jackson,CB
38. Detroit – Jahvid Best,RB
66.Detroit – Brandon Spikes,LB
100. Detroit – Donovan Warren,CB
134. Detroit – George Selvie,DE

I really would like to see us grab the players you just listed

I’m not sure on Spikes, even though he did well in Florida.

Colt would be better in the west coast the claussen

I think you also have to remember this isn’t scwartz defense like it was in tennesee its Gunthers defense so Albert may not fit as well as ya think.

Louis Delmas is gonna lay the MAC down on your candyass.

I have no doubt that we'll be active on draft day

Should be fun.
