Revoting for Defensive Rookie of the Year
Sports Illustrated and the Associated Press are reporting that Brian Cushing will be stripped of the DROTY honors due to testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs at the beginning of the season.
Cushing had won the award with over 75% of the vote; the second-place vote getter Jairus Byrd (a boon to my IDP fantasy team last year) received only 12%.
Instead of simply handing the award to Byrd, they've announced they will be re-voting for the award and omitting Cushing's name from the ballot.
Who, like me, thinks that Louis Delmas is going to have a shot at garnering a fair amount of credit for his contributions to our defense last year? After all, he won ROTM honors at one point (October? I don't remember) and is the only rookie defender ever to score a Safety, an INT TD and a Fumble Recovery TD in the same season.
He probably doesn't stand a chance at winning... statistically Jairus Byrd was a much bigger impact player at the DB position (probably second only to Darren Sharper or Woodson in the NFL last year, honestly) but you've got to imagine someone might take a flyer on Delmas. He deserves it.

Here's me looking into the future at the Lions going to the Play-offs by 2011 and going to the Super Bowl in 2012!!!
I drink a lot of "spiked" blue kool-aid... Having no problem sharing cuz it sure is good!!!!
I hope Delmas wins it, but there is some hefty competition
Orakpo had a steller season.

2010 Wests Tigers : Current record - 4-2 : Current Position - 7th : Last game - Defeated by Canterbury Bulldogs 24 - 4

Its pointless
i still think Cushing will win, he dropped clean at the end of the year and the substance was not a steroid not mention the kid only got better as the year went on.
Screw that...
Bottom line is… had the NFL acted faster, Cushing would’ve missed 4 games last year, therefore squashing any hopes for a DROY award.
your being a whine ass, never tested positive for steroids in the NFL and tested negative for Steroids at the end of the season. If he was guilty then he should have never been in the same conversation of DROY, he earned it and i don’t see where he cheated to get there.
He tested positive
for a substance that people use to get their testosterone levels back up after a steroid cycle. It’s not like he took something that can be found a Rite Aid or CVS. He tested positive for a substance that is used in concert with steroids.
That’s testing positive for steroids in my book.
hCG
Human chorionic gonadotropin, and it’s produced by pregnant women.
“In the world of performance enhancing drugs, hCG is increasingly used in combination with various anabolic androgenic steroid (AAS) cycles. As a result, hCG is included in some sports’ illegal drug lists.” – Wiki
It is also taken by men during and after steroid cycles to restore and maintain their testicle size. The ONLY reason for a man to have this hormone in their bodies in excessive levels is to help counteract the negative side effects of Anabolic steroids.
That is testing positive for steroids IMO. If he’s taking that stuff, then he’s taking Anabolic steroids. Which is why it’s banned.
actually i could care less if he is or isn't
why sit up here and argue about something so stupid not to mention has nothing to do w the Lions….
exactly clf
This is an epic fail on the nfl’s part. If he tested positive for a banned substance early last season then why not take action that season? I don’t understand waiting till the next year to penalize him. Not to mention that the voters would then have known before voting thus eliminating the need for a revote. I can’t stand how the nfl has handled this. Maybe there hands were tied like with the williams guys in minnesota but something stinks here.
I get my ass kicked for money, all you gotta do is talk motherfucker.... Rampage Pride GP03

+1
I would accept a 3 strikes kind of rule, but if you have to try this hard for the first strike then I say 1 strike.
I would say the same thing if CJ was caught roiding it up. I think it is a failing of the player first and the team second. there is no way the coaches and players who have been working out with top athletes essentially all their lives are not aware that a guy in their locker room is shooting. I am guessing that there is not one Texan that is surprised by this news.
Byrd was better than Delmas but he had a much better supporting cast
Orakpo was a stud but also in a great D. If they are going to award it strictly based on individual achievement not factoring in team contributions at all then I don’t think Delmas has a shot. But if they look at how crappy the Lions D was and factor that in maybe he will be in the running.
