SHAWN SPRINGS dropped from the Pats!?

Shawn Springs (wanted him over Joey Harrington) was dropped from the Patriots... Is he worth persuing?  He has experience but it sounds like he did not do well in New England last year?    Your thoughts?   Could he be better than any of the CB's we have?   Mayhew was right with some of the roster drops.  Their loss could be our gain?  If they fit those pieces in the backfield with our improved frontline our defense could be better than predicted!

No idea if he's still got it or not

I looked him up on pro football focus, and they had him ranked the #34 CB (out of 107 rated), which was above everyone the Lions had last year except Phillip Buchanon (rated 30th).

I'll leave it to schwartz and co..

But I think he’d give us a DB thats a real vet and can help out in atleast the fact that he has experince as a #1 corner in the NFL

Louis Delmas is gonna lay the MAC down on your candyass

This is what I was thinking ! He could play some valuable minutes as well as fill in time for a injured player. I think his Vet. leadership would be most valuable for all of the young CBs we have back there.

by Joey-P on May 20, 2010 5:14 AM EDT up reply actions

he goes to waivers right?

What could it hurt? Uncapped year, and an immediate upgrade. Durability issues though.

They don't call him rusty springs for nothin

He’s 35 and they’re saying he might retire now. If he doesn’t retire he would be worth a shot, just like 25 other CBs who are in their mid-30s and used to be good. Ty Law, Mike McKenzie, Chris McAlister, etc etc etc.

If this was 2000 not 2010

I’d be all for it, but how can some of you guys that talk all that trash about not wanting “over the hill” guys even contemplate going after a corner who’s best days were back when Barry still played. No I think we should pass this one bye as well. Just like LT,T Jones,Westbrooke, and on and on and on.

big difference

Between 30 something CB compared to 30 something running backs.

But I would have loved to get Thomas Jones for what the chiefs paid for him.

dont think we need him

we have guys we can develop and need playing time. he would just cut into those players playing times, and provide us with about the same talent level at this stage of his career

Im sick of the lions picking up the old vets to play for 1 or 2 years. It’s time we develop some young talent so we don’t have a revolving door every year.

I have to do a second take here

If he is still fast, and plays hard, and practices hard then I am good with it. You know in Madden 2004 I always signed Todd Lyght and Deon Sanders to my team and sometimes Terry Fair too just to get by for a year or two. I think that is what Detroit has been doing already anyways so what can it hurt? Granted though I do not want any Anthony Henry’s or Will James who have lost a step. I only want aging vets that still have it.

by Evilsmurf on May 19, 2010 12:48 AM EDT reply actions

If he's still got wheels, I'm all for it

having a former pro bowl CB who can probably step in and be our no. 1 guy from day one seems like a good idea. When you factor in how much he could teach these young guys we’ve got, trying to get him seems like a no-brainer.

by motown313 on May 19, 2010 1:34 AM EDT up reply actions

he barely got on the field in NE

when he was competing with 3 rookie CB’s for playing time.

This is a Texas deal….el paso.

PS> What can it hurt? Taking a roster spot and developmental time for a CB that might be able to contribute for 10+ years. I would much rather let Berry develop.

Speaking of having wheels, there is a guy out there who has lost a step I would be interested in.

Marlin Jackson. Nto because I am a homer go blue guy, I am but I legitimately think he is talented enough to still play, and possibly convert to safety. He reminds me of a younger, more physical Anthony Henrey.

by Evilsmurf on May 19, 2010 3:37 AM EDT up reply actions

Marlin,,have always been a fan

I say pass. I am happy with our current CB's we have on our roster now.

Yes, I know they are not great. But they are young. And I would rather have young players that could develop into something. I dont really like the idea of bring in a aging Vet for one season.

Yep...so far nothing has been done

They came and cleaned up the tree and bricks from the chimney, and they nailed a tarp over the hole in the roof, but it has been close to two weeks with no action. I guess the contracting company hired by the insurance company is getting the materials, and they are supposed to be talking to my father in law (the owner) tomorrow…but other than that, we are without hot water (gas hot water heater, damaged exhaust vents) and heat (didn’t need it today) but we are still kicking.

Mmm….Banana!

Yeah, sorry to hear that...

You were on A Good One that day though. I was like “Holy Shit”, my KDawg just BIT ME IN THE ASS, kinda funny to see your angry side. (sorry it had to be at that expense)

I find it funny to bring to light, that even though you house had a tree fall on it… You still were checking and posting comments on POD. I Freakin Love That Man!!!
Good thing the tree didn’t fall on the line (cable, phone, ect) that brings your Internet connection. I’d be scared of you if you couldn’t get you fix. You would have to go to the Library or something. hahaha best wishes bro.

Sorry about that

I lit into a couple of people that day, nothing personal. If I could not access the internet on my computer, I would access POD on my Blackberry…lol.

Nothing can keep me from my team…:o)

I just hope it all works out for ya. At least it’s not January

No offense,

But that’s my biggest beef with captive insurance companies.

THEY have a list of contractors that THEY choose to use… its a THEY know what’s best for YOU attitude.

I suggest to your FIL that he takes a look at an independent agency brand Insurance company….. one that allows the insured to choose who works on their house. (after the claim of course.)

by CLF on May 20, 2010 9:50 AM EDT up reply actions

LOL

I agree CLF…however, if you knew my FIL you would immediately understand exactly why he would never do that. He is a name brand kind of guy, if you know the type. He will not return bottles to the store because he thinks it makes him look poor (he gives them to his son, or else gives them to whoever will take them). I think he believes that his insurance company (State Farm), is a status symbol as much as it is an insurance company.

Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!

I'm happy to hear that no one got hurt.

Cause with act’s of god like that, well brother you just never know what could happen. It is funny that with that damage to your house you were still on here getting your fix of the POD. 1 word comes to my mind.DIEHARD;with a vengence towards J16941. lmao

Who does our corners have to learn under?

Dump Eric King, let Barry and Spievey learn under Springs. Houston, Wade, and Springs could split snaps. Springs was a great corner who has a ton of knowledge. In that aspect, it could be beneficial.

BUT, If we didnt take a shot at Pacman, I doubt we sign him. I’m not particularly satisfied with our corners, but am banking on the theory that our upgraded D-line will improve the secondary play.

I'm all for a vet cb to be signed

rather its Springs or someone else, i was hoping for Nate would be released from SF but not so sure that will happen.

+100

There is going to be some quality names getting cut soon, count on it with a draft that was as deep as this one was. We just got to hope they will come to detroit and not go to contenders like Indi/N.E./N.O./GB/Minn/Dal/SD. I’d put the Jets on that list but hell they drafted and traded for like 20 CB’s this offseason as it was.
