Oshiomogho Atogwe

Looks like he may be released on June 2. I think picking him up would solidify our Safety position for years to come, pairing him with Delmas. What are everyone else's thoughts on this?

This team is shoing that it is building a winner...

….I think this team will be good this year and in contention for playoffs next year…Why would he want to play here?

by BennieBladesFan on Jun 1, 2010 12:27 PM EDT up reply actions

I think everyone here has restated over and over

what a welcome addition Atogwe would be. There’s no denying he’s a good safety. But he’s going to get paid like he’s an elite safety, which he’s not. Detroit will not be his destination.

Welcome to Detroit or should we say welcome home…

by SmittyJ on Jun 1, 2010 12:01 PM EDT reply actions

He would ask for a fat contract

Besides, dont any of you want to see what Phillips brings to the table? I hope he shines in the preseason.

by BtotheLT on Jun 1, 2010 1:12 PM EDT reply actions

Well....

He’s a local product (Windsor), so we have that in our favor. We have a gaping hole at the other safety position and a coach and GM that recognize that fact, so that’s in our favor. We can spend pretty much whatever the hell we want, so contract amount and duration is not really a problem.

Players can say all they want about going to a winner, but at the end of the day it comes down to money. If the Lions think he’s worth it and really want him, they’ll get him. We have just as good a shot as any team in the league. Maybe even more if O.J. feels being close to home is a big perk.

by DrewsLions on Jun 1, 2010 2:00 PM EDT reply actions

people underestimate the value of playing close to home.

and i also wouldnt be so quick to assume the lions wont put forth a very competitive offer. we are one of the teams that can make money of ticket sales by signing a guy like this. Most NFL teams are already selling out every game, a strong signing like this will increase the ticket sales which is a factor thats not going into every gm’s equation….

I dunno if we can get him

Mayhew seems like a smart enough guy to seek all avenues that can improve are team. I imagine he will be on the phone this afternoon to atleast gauge intrest and what it would take to get him.

Why the hell wouldn't he want to play in Detroit!

Detroit is one of the up and coming teams of the NFL, you got the likes of Suh, Levy, Spievey, Hill and Delmas on defense not to mention vets like Peterson, KVB, Will, Avril, Hunter and even Houston and OJ’s old friend Wade. On the offense you got a guy who can be one of the best wideouts in the league, a young skilled qb w over flowing talent ready to be released, you got Grew, Scheff, Nate, Smith and a rb who experts are saying was the best back in the draft and will have the better year and career in Best. All this from a team only in its second year of rebuilding, now he will have to ask himself what can i do and how much better will this team be w the addition of me. Don’t be so fast to write this team off we actually have guys who are pumped to play for the Detroit Lions and that shit is contagious.

Im w/ you on this too, players coming in will be like a contagion spreading through the air, players will get word of whats really going on and realize that though there are still some flaws in the owners box of thinking, that the Front Office right now has enough control to get the players needed to make this a competitive team and are doing it, that the mind state of Win Now and build for future is also going on.

I'd love to see him over here

I’m hoping Schwartz and Mayhew can get it down. Not betting on it though.
