Lions Claim Linebacker Lee Campbell

Middle linebacker Lee Campbell was waived by the Giants earlier this week but has already been claimed by the Lions. Campbell was signed by the Giants in early May as an undrafted free agent out of Minnesota.

The Gophers' official site has this to say about Campbell:

Rugged, hard-nosed defender • came to Minnesota as a linebacker, played primarily as a defensive end early in his Gopher career, moved back to linebacker in 2008 preseason camp • has started 23 games on the Gophers defense over the past two seasons – the most of any current Minnesota player on the defensive side of the ball – including 12 during the 2007 campaign at defensive end and 12 in 2008 at middle linebacker • has collected 131 total tackles during his career, 11.5 for losses, including six sacks.

Like all undrafted free agents, Campbell is a depth player who will look to make the team by way of playing well on special teams.

OMG

I meet Lee Campbell once. Went to a high school very close to mine in Naples, FL. He is a very nice and down-to-earth guy. This guy was great at the U of Minnesota. Really hope he makes the final roster.

Lived In Minnesota (born) for 7 years. Lived in Detroit for 6 years. I hate the Vikings. Nuff said.

WHAT???

I can’t believe we got this guy! He’s going to make an impact on this team. He was awesome at Minnesota. He can rush the passer, make big hits, and is solid in coverage. The guy’s the deal. With a little work, we have a future starter. I hope the Lions keep him on the final roster.

May even be a little better then Folett.

Cant wait to see this guy a little more. Saw him play at Miny a couple times. Great instincts.

I remember watching him play at Minnesota..

He is solid. And he is a big LB. 6’2 247lb. I like the pick up.

this is a good pick, I saw him play plenty of times. Hard nosed kid that can knock your socks off.

Sounds good

We need some LB depth and if this guy can show some skills then he may find himself on the roster.
