Roger Goodell Comments On Tom Lewand
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was asked about Tom Lewand's arrest during an interview at the rookie symposium, and this is what he had to say:
"Our policies apply to everyone: Yours truly. Presidents, players, coaches, everyone involved with the NFL. And I think Tom recognizes that and of course I will speak to him sometime in the future. And we'll be gathering the facts. But everybody is accountable and everybody is responsible."

It's good that everyone is on an equal playing field as far as the rules and standards of behavior are concerned
but it seems pretty hypothetical. The only punishment he can really give Lewand is to fine him and maybe order him into some kind of AA group or something, which Lewand would probably already do on his own anyway. There won’t be any kind of suspension like there would be if he was one of the players.

It'll probably be a fine
Theoretically he could be suspended, but when you’re not a player or coach a suspension is pretty meaningless. My guess is Goodell will hit him with a fine, and that will be the end of it.
ok...
so fine him a large amount of money and make do community service in the form of alcoholism awareness or something similar. Football players get busted for DUI’s and don’t lose their jobs or even get suspended for games for that matter. Sure, it’s a big deal and he needs to realize that and be punished, but he is more than competent and his job and is only human, so calling for his job is a bit much.
I'm a little bit torn
It’s the old debate about how high of a standard you have for people in leadership positions who set the tone for the organization. With the Lions at such a pivotal point it really is unacceptable to have these kinds of distractions, especially knowing that if we don’t get it done in the next 2 or 3 years, we’ll have to start all over with a new coaching regime and new players like we have been the last 15 years.

agree...
that we are in a pivotal stage…that is why solidarity is so important…honestly this won’t hurt us when it comes to the win/loss column. What could hurt us is firing Lewand and then getting someone who hasn’t had contact with any of our draft picks or other players who will have to re-sign next year and a new person comes in and has to to become familiar with ever single player and contract, etc. It would almost guarantee that our rookies are not ready to contribute until weeks 3-4.
