Jon Kitna
Sitting here thinking of the horrible QB's we have had over the past ten years (Once again a thank you to Matthew Stafford for changing that......hopefully) Culpepper, Harrington, Jeff Garcia (broke his leg unfortunately) and dont even get me started about Orlovsky "I like to run into the stands whenever someone chases me". Batch was way below par. Then there is Jon Kitna, who was, I believe, the best quarterback we had during these dark ages. Besides 2000 when we went 9-7 under Batch, Kitna took us to our best record of 7-9 in 2007. He gave us a glimmer of hope with a 6-2 start, but hey were the Detroit Lions, and finished the season going 1-7. Kitna was only our starter for 2 years. Records 3-13 and 7-9. Both those seasons he posted over four thousand yards passing. 4208 and 4068 respectively. TD to INT ratio was below .500 both years, 21 to 22 and 18 to 21. Yet this was under the worst offensive line many have ever seen. In 06 he was sacked 63 times! In 07, 51 times! He could not stay in the pocket for more than 3 seconds without being hit or sacked. Watch highlights of his two years in Detroit, he scrambled for his life more than half the time. Im not saying he was an elite quarterback or even a good quaterback, but he was the best we had, he gave a us a glimmer of hope for one year, maybe to just keep our spirits and faith alive in our team. So i am going to say thank you Jon Kitna.

Batch gets my vote...
because Kitna seemed to be alot of talk, and when things didn’t go his way, he pouted. Batch was a great leader and total team player. Didn’t talk much, just went out and gave his all, even if Kitna posted better stats, KItna’s career record with the Lions was 10-26 (.277) whereas Batch was 19-27 (.413), showing that Batch just led the team to a better winning record. Also, and this may not have to do with who the QB was with the time, but when Batch was at the helm, we at least had an honest show at the playoffs, unlike Kitna’s all talk and no walk.
Really?
Go look at the rosters for both of those quarterbacks’ tenures. See what each guy had to work with.
im going to agree
batch was the best lions QB in my lifetime (hopefully that changes this season). he was a leader, a professional, didnt always throw a pretty ball, but got it where it needed to go. its too bad the Oline was as bad as it was during that time. he got hit more than any other QB ive ever seen. we broke him.
So Haywood, you were not alive during the Scott Mitchell years??????
Who unfortunately was the best QB in my lifetime, yes better than Chuck Long, Gary Danielson,Rodney Peete,David Craig,Joey “I hear footsteps” Andre Ware,Greg O, Kitna,Charlie, The list goes on and on. Mitchell at least knew how to throw the jump ball to Moore and get us point in the RED ZONE and not get us down field to the red zone and then watch us punt from our own 30. Or throw a ball that should have been eatin and let Hanson get us something. Yeah Kitna had alot of yards but he would get us down there and then throw the INT or fumble he was not that good.Actually the best QB in my lifetime I can’t even remember his name cause he played for us in the strike year.
How many lumps you want Doc?
I was never, ever, ever, ever, ever
a fan of Mitchell. I just couldn’t. He had all the talent around him that anybody could ask for. To say that he led us, is just false (IMO). I never saw him as wining any games for us, only losing.
Really????
How did Rodney Peete do with all that talent? the only guy that Mitchell had the Peete didn’t have was Brett Perriman, And how did that work out for us? I’m not saying Mitchell was the second coming of god or anything like that (cause he sure wasn’t) I’m just saying he or Kramer was the best QB of my time and I’m in my late 30’s. And he was WAYYYYYY better than any QB we have had since then. Yeah I am putting Staffinfection in that boat as well (for now) cause until he actually goes out there and get’s it done on the field he is nothing more than another Joey Harrington. Say what you will but even Joey had at least 1 good win for us!

you are giving kitna waaaaaay to much credit
he was trowing to cj and roy in martz’s system. he could rack up the yards but couldn’t score the td’s and he always threw the late in the game int. his only positive, to me, was the man he was….but even being a man of God doesn’t amount to much in the NFL sorry, I agree with the guy that thought of the nickname shitna
Not a fan of his
he was tough though. He took an absolute beating behind that O-line.
He wasn’t the worst QB
In life, a man is either the hammer or the anvil. Ndamukong Suh is both
If we hadn't put him on IR prematurely in 2008 I think we would have won a game in the last 8 weeks
Maybe. I would like to hope. Couldawouldashouldadidn’ta.

I liked Kitna
I knew we were never really gonna go anywhere with him, but he was a tough dude and competitive as they come. You could never say he wasn’t playing hard… and that means something to me. Problem is, he wasn’t all that talented.
The highlight of Kitna's career in Detroit....
Was when he and his wife dressed up as Joe Cullen and the Drive through Wendy’s worker…. (I bet they had fun with that later!!!!… I know I would’ve… his wife is hot!)
I loved Kitna
I wish he could have retired here. That guy was a fucking competitor… People tout Jeff Garcia as being tough as nails and a great leader, Kitna was just as good. The guy took the team on his shoulders in it’s darkest hour, and took the brunt of the blame for its woes. I never heard Kitna say anything about another teammate in press conferences. He said it was his fault and HE had to play better. He was the only one getting fired up at his teammates when it looked (read: was) hopeless, and I’ll never forget him storming off the field to flip out in that one game.
Good luck to you Jon, you’ll probably never start again, but you still have a fan in the D.
I agree Kitna was the best of those QBs
Thats not saying much but he’s a solid player but he was never going to get us any better than we already were. Kitna is the definition of adiquate.

When I think back on Kitna...
the defining moment was the last game of the 3-13 season against the cowboys. With absolutely nothing to gain he came out firing and hit practically everyone for a touchdown, even Mike Williams (who actually looked like a professional in that game). I remember the Mike Furrey knocking-down-the-star scene, that was classic. The reason I say its the defining moment is because its like his stint here: with absolutely nothing, no hope, and no talent, he still gave it all and managed to eek out the win. Did that happen often? No, and all the 10-wins or bust hype setup a huge letdown for us fans. But in terms of who we’ve had here in recent years, seriously, who was better? Joey Blue-skies? Jeff Garcia, who hasn’t been the same without TO? Orlovsky? Culpepper?
Kitna any day over those guys
I kinda did...
didn’t I?
And even that was a miracle considering his offensive line consisted of Foster, Fonoti, Ramirez, etc
A QB can throw for 4000 yards with no time to throw?
Hmmmmm. Maybe the quality of defensive backs does matter. Once that ball is in the air, it’s up to them.
"We lost!" Delmas yelled at reporters. "What you want? What you got to ask me?"
Delmas stared at reporters defiantly.
"That’s what I thought,"
"It's a hard division," Delmas said. "It's very big, but football is football. You've got to strap it up and go out there and play and that's what we plan on doing."

Well in my humble opinion
Kitna was ok, not great. Batch was ok, not great. I would actually have to go back to the Mitchell, Kramer days to find a QB I liked.
It's funny that you guys talk highly about Kitna
For throwing for over 4000 yrds but Mitchell who got us to the NFC championship game (and let Rodney Peete beat us) you condemn. I’m with Rick on this one the best 2 QB’s we’ve had in my time are Mitchell (Great immitation of Wayno there) and Kramer. Other than them 2 we’ve had horrible play out of the QB position. And before I drop the subject how are some of you guys all on Staff’s nutz so hard? He hasn’t done shit yet either. I like his moxi, but hell I liked Joeys’ moxi after his first year as well. Let’s let Matt actually do something before we all get out the Lions flags and start waving them in his praise..

kitna didn't have number 20

And if Mitchell
wouldn’t have been able to get the ball to them when they needed the ball they wouldn’t have been 84, 87, 80, 86. I am glad you and me left 20 off of that list cause it didn’t matter who was handing the ball off to him. My point is this Mitchell set a Lions record for most passing yards that year and without looking it up that stat still stands today, he went out there and got the damn job done for us for 2 years and yes I saw the Browns game MattyZ but that was 1 game against a team we should have blown out of the water and to have to come back in the last play of the game does not really say that much does it. I’m sure all the browns fans were saying the same thing about that stinking ND QB (why did we trade him didn’t you see the Lions game) I also saw the Seahawk game that we had a huge lead in and we lost, The Rams game at home. I’m just saying Matt has moxi and a gun and a half for an arm, I think he will be our first pro-bowler QB in over (was it 80 years bishop) but until he actually get’s us to above 500. he is just another QB in a long line of QB’s that came out of collage over heralded.

OH my bad,
It wasn’t laced with enough sarcasm for me to catch. My bad bro.

I didn't mind Kitna
He put up nice numbers and was a tough dude. He was never the long term solution though.

i remember
my favorite play was when kitna would be in the huddle and down the field i saw Josh McCown as a wide receiver. mike martz had so many good plays.
