What's the biggest holdup in signing Suh?
Okay, it's Thursday morning. Camp is imminent. Suh still isn't signed. What do you think is the biggest item, right now, keeping him from being signed?

It's a combination of things...
….a few you listed in the polls. I emphasize…Suh will be on the field tomorrow. Even if he signs early tomorrow before it starts. Best should be too.

I think a lot of it has to do with his value
He was the 2nd pick, but then again he is a DT, so its hard to figure out the right price for him. I think this might take a while
The beginning of the end of the misery
Its all about Bradford
Last season Jason Smith was signed on time. Mainly because Stafford had a contract on the eve of the draft. The Rams FO was able to get it done last and the season before with Chris Long. So, I believe the hold-up is on the Bradford side.

I think it hinges on McCoy
And that a problem b/c their probably waiting on us. But the #1, #3, and #4 picks have the same agents. So hopefully when one domino falls Suh will fall into place.

I smell a holdout..
and it pisses me off. Fucking agents are screwing the whole damn game out.
OOPS!!!
up not out..lol. See told ya I was mad.
Yep..
I think it all boils down to scumbag agents and any given high profile player’s inability (or unwillingness) to just conduct their business without following completely optional douche-ridden protocols.
Suh has stated several times since the draft that he didn’t want to let money or contract issues prevent him from being in camp on time. Now when it really comes down to it, it looks like it may be a possibility.
It doesn’t matter how much I like a player before-hand, I lose a significant amount of respect and also a huge amount of fan spirit towards a rookie who holds out.
If you want to be in camp on time, you’ll make it happen and do it. If you want to let your douche-wrangling agents haggle over a fraction of the tens upon tens of millions of dollars that you are now going to be paid to play a freakin’ game for a living, then that’s what will happen as well.
Come on Suh.. the clock is ticking.
He CAN'T report to camp without a contract....
due to League rules. The holdup is Bradford because he was #1. Suh will be signed within a few hours of Bradford signing.

This isn't true necessarily....
Suh can sign before Bradford, and it wouldn’t be a surprise actually. IF Bradford is going to holdout, Suh can sign a good deal. JaMarcus Russell, ironically, held out for a long time and the other picks signed at reasonable times.

I'm not saying
That he should report to camp without a contract. What I’m saying is that if he truly wanted to get to camp on time, he absolutely could figure out an acceptable contract between his agents and the team regardless of what is going on with the contract status of other rookie players on other teams in the league.
While I believe it is the warped system in general that is ultimately to blame, Suh is still the one that specifically said he wouldn’t let it happen with him.
I expect it's Bradford's deal thats the holdup
But McCoy’s is an intriguing side to it. I say just get ‘er done and don’t worry about it.
RIP Robyn Bailey 1961 - 2010. I love you mum.
Other---> GREED.
Plain and simple. Whatever offer the Lions have on the table has to have at least $20-$25 million guaranteed. You can try to blame Bradford, since he’s technically the reason there hasn’t been a deal, but the reason Suh is waiting on Bradford is so that he can squeeze every penny out of us possible, therefore his greed is the actual reason for a holdup.
I know we might not like to think that Suh isn’t a picture perfect human being, but he’s obviously not. Dez Bryant demonstrated a hell of a lot more character by signing a deal worth less then what he could have gotten solely so he could make it to camp on time. I get a feeling Suh won’t be so generous.
If you were the #2 pick....
….you’d be getting the money that precedent set for you as well. Don’t take it personal, man.

I'm trying not to man
I’m just frustrated with the system and the way it’s currently set up for rookie contracts. The fact that Matthew Stafford signed a contract that made him a higher paid QB then Tom Brady before he even was officially drafted is irritating, to say the least.
I understand that it’s not the player’s fault that the system is the way that it is, it just really bothers me to see these guys holding out of training camp; at that point it’s not just about them, it’s about the team. One of the keys to building a winning franchise is team cohesiveness, something that’s hard to build when guys in the locker room are wondering why the hell a rookie that’s about to be the highest paid defensive player on the roster isn’t in camp because he wants another couple million tacked onto his guaranteed money.
Basically what I’m saying is this is an issue that MUST be fixed in the upcoming NFL Labor agreement. I’m just saying it with frustration attached.
I agree, but I think I blame the agent a little more than Suh, and I blame the system a lot more than anybody
If Suh gets $34 mil instead of $38 mil, for example, he can maybe live with that.
But if his agent lets him sign a contract for less guaranteed money than one or two or three guys taken after him, his agent comes away with egg on his face in the view of a lot of talented young recruits that he’s going to hope to sign in future years.
If Suh comes away with less guaranteed money than he should get relative to Bradford (taking into account the quarterback “premium”, and the difference between the #1 slot and the #2 slot), or, worse, Suh comes away with less guaranteed money than Gerald McCoy, I think his agent is going to have a tough time convincing future rookies that he can get them a “fair” deal when they go into the league.
It’s easy to look for one face to blame for a problem, the “greedy” players or “greedy” agents, but I guess I think the problem is the system itself.
Players have no incentive to step in and force a signing to take place—they let agents handle the busine$$ side, which is usually the best thing to do because players aren’t experts in contract negotiating. They just play ball. Plus a several-day holdout that results in a several-million pay increase is hard to argue against.
Agents have all the incentive in the world to squeeze every last penny they can from teams, not necessarily because they’re greedy or bad people, but because their future livelihood depends on it. If you have a guy who is the #2 overall pick, and you don’t demonstrate that you can get a very good deal for that player, then why should future players, who aren’t going to get quite as much money as the #2 overall, sign with your agency firm?
We just need a pre-negotiated rookie salary scale.
Hey that's a timeout, I can play right? yeah, get me--get the F-- Help me up...I can throw the ball if you need me to throw the ball...

But here's the thing.
There can only be one “last” player to sign. It doesn’t go in order, it goes by who sets the bar individually at the position they were drafted in. So in spite of the broken system, set the bar.
Dez Bryant signed a contract for X amount of dollars. Players drafted before him will make generally more money, and teams will be able to negotiate for less money with those who were drafted after.
Trent Williams signs a contract for X dollars. Players drafted between he and Bryant will obviously fit into the structure accordingly, for the most part.
I guess what I’m saying is that if Suh signs for X amount of dollars before waiting to see what Bradford gets, then Bradford signs for slightly more, McCoy signs for between Suh and Williams amounts, and all is well in the world.
Will he make slightly less? Very possibly, we’ll never know. I agree completely that the system is seriously flawed and that there should be a set rookie scale. But from a much more personal, fan standpoint, the broken system and the agents aren’t the ones that said that something like this wouldn’t happen. Suh said that. And ultimately, the agents and the system work for him.
that well said was for motown313
My issue is be a man of your word. You said you wanted to be on time for camp. You have the power to do that. If you do not make it, that is 100% your call. A man does not let another man determine his destiny for him. Thats chumpery at its best IMO.
So, what if Bradford doesn’t sign? The Rams have been screaming ownership problems all offseason. Not a lot of stability there. Pretty sure the unknown factor is standing in the way of that deal. So if Suh is waiting on that…he could be waiting a while. And so could we,
