Ndamukong Suh Still In Nebraska; Jahvid Best To Sign First?
According to Mike O'Hara, who is now writing for FOXSportsDetroit.com, Ndamukong Suh has not traveled to Allen Park yet. I figured he would be there in anticipation of signing his contract, but perhaps this shows that he and the Lions are not even close to that right now.
Suh, who lives in Portland, had not come to Detroit as of Friday afternooon.
"He's in Nebraska, working out to stay in shape," Rosey Barnes, an agent for Suh, said Friday afternoon. Barnes is an associate of agent Eugene Parker.
Based on what Jim Schwartz had to say about this situation earlier, it appears the main issue is that the Rams have not signed Sam Bradford. Without that "domino," the Lions and Suh are at standstill.
"Suh’s a little bit different," Schwartz said. "I think Trent Williams fell in at four. Like I said a little bit before, when one domino falls, all of a sudden you start getting a lot more and I think the biggest domino in this draft is obviously Sam Bradford at (No.) 1.
"And then once that domino falls, then all of a sudden the other ones will fall pretty quickly in place behind because you’ll establish a little bit of a structure. That’s the business of agents. That’s the business of front-office people.
At this point it certainly sounds like Jahvid Best will sign before Suh does. Whether or not that happens before practice tomorrow remains to be seen, but Schwartz made sure to point out that he doesn't anticipate the Best situation being a "long-term thing."

It's too bad they can't do some kind of temporary contract just for training camp so that that rookies don't fall behind learning stuff
Seriously, it’s kind of bad for everyone involved except for the agents when these negotiations go on into training camp.

Correct me if I'm wrong...
..there is no “cap” on how much money you can sign rookies (at least, that’s what I think is the case for the top 10 picks) and I believe if the league made changes to that top tier rookies would be on their team a lot quicker and getting familiar with the organization, teammates, game plans/schemes, etc.
I think not signing and waiting till others in front you sign is partly to do with greed but it is smart that you do not get severely underpaid compared to the person that was only drafted one spot in front of you…but this is a little “cat and mouse” game that really needs to be addressed by the league.

Wow, that was a mangled mess. lol
The point is the league should change how teams sign early first round draft picks.

Yeah they are talking about implementing a rookie cap soon
That would help the signing process a lot. And it would also make it so that bad teams like the Lions don’t get hamstrung by half a dozen huge top 10 rookie contracts.

LOL
Ya, he invaded our Pistons’ basketball blog about a month ago and was spewing a bunch of non-sense and that quote was one of the gems he left us with.

the league needs a rookie wage scale
This is just another fine example of why I believe that the league needs a rookie wage scale. No more hold outs and no more first round picks making more than proven veterans who have played for years. Pro bowl caliber players are making less than some of the rookies choosen. That is absolute crap from a business stand point. You don’t hire a guy in that has no experience in the real world and pay him more money than some of your top executives. That just doesn’t happen unless you get drafted high in the NFL. A change needs to happen and this is the year to put it in place for next year.
I hate saying this but...
It looks as though Suh may miss a couple of days. As long as it ain’t too many though.

I'm confused
Didn’t he tweet that he was coming to ‘the D’ a couple days ago? Did his agents convince him that he should stay away as a bargaining chip?

Good question
I guess he said he was packing for Detroit. Still, you’d think he would be here waiting to sign. Best checked in right after getting his deal taken care of.

Do they have workout facilities for Non-Signees in Detroit?
He’s probably just working out in familiar surrounding until the deal is done? It’s the least UNL can do for their Alumni who donated 2.6 million he doesn’t have yet. That said, “Get the deal done, already!”
Yeah that's pretty much what it is
Until he gets signed, there’s no point to leave where you’re working out I guess. It was the same with Brandon Graham. He was in Ann Arbor working out with U-M until signing.
