Jarrad Page

I read on Arrowhead pride this morning that the Lions are intrested in trading for Saftey Jarrad Page of the KC chiefs. He was drafted while cunningham was there so there is a familiarity with him. He is also a starting saftey who is looking for a trade. One would assume the Eric Berry pick may have something to do with it. I don't know a whole lot about Page but we can use all the help in the secondary we can get. He could pan out as a longterm starter next to delmas. It wouldn't bother me much if we got him for a 4th rounder or maybe a late rounder and a player. So what do you guys think of this possible trade if we can get the Chiefs to bite?

I like the guy alot...

He is a big hitter. Very good size at 6’0 225lb. He is young and coachable. 4th rounder or later sounds good to me. Maybe a 5th and throw in one of our many safeties(of course not Delmas) into the mix.

I can see him traded for a WR

KCs not too deep there, and they could take someone like BJ for Page

I'd give them northcutt and a 5th

or northcutt and KO

I think a 5th is too much

We gave up a 5th for Rob Sims, whos suposedly the 6th best LG is the league, 6th for Houston, 5th for Williams, 7th for Hill….all of whom are better players than Page. At max I would give them one of the two receivers and a 7th

Maybe someone knows...

Wasn’t Page injured last season? Every year in the league, his tackles, INT’s and passes defended have gone up. But he only played in a few game last season.

I think it is funny

That their other starting safety is former lion Jon McGraw

by blizzrd on Jul 5, 2010 1:34 PM EDT reply actions

Why not bring him to Detroit.

If its a WR they want give them Northcutt or Johnson, Bullocks and a 5th rounder for Page and Derrick Johnson.

Have you guys read what the Chiefs think of him

I know they just got Eric Berry but not the best of news coming from there camp for a starting safety, i dont know a whole lot about him but yea its funny there starting safety is McGraw lol

by Liontotheextreme on Jul 5, 2010 5:58 PM EDT reply actions

I think a lot of us like McGraw

Just not as a starter. But special teams and quality depth…I like him. He busts his butt every time out there. He’s a good locker room guy. Maybe not as a starter, but I think McGraw is an asset to a team.

by Joel Thorman on Jul 5, 2010 8:34 PM EDT up reply actions

So on your special teams he's the Zack Follett of sorts

Obviously he dosen’t compare in many ways but he is the Stand Out tackler and hitter who goes full boar down field determined to make the play.

I think Mayhew still has a move or two in him before training camp begins.

He and Schwartz will be studying the tapes of the OTA’s and mini camp and put a bullseye on a couple of asses and send them packing.

I think before camp

we will end up with atleast one more DB. I think they went to OTA and decided they needed to try and get Bly to help them out.

I don't know

I gotta be honest and say that I know next to nothing about this guy, but if Gunny is familiar with him and thinks he’ll be an upgrade, I’m all about it. It’s funny, I can’t remember a time when I had this much confidence in the Lions coaching staff…

by motown313 on Jul 5, 2010 9:34 PM EDT reply actions

Why trade.....

It says on the chiefs pride page that it’s “remote at best he’ll make the team,” so why trade a 4th rounder or something so high to get him? I’ve never seen him play but he did have 107 tackles with 4 pics back in 07 I think it was, so im not double guessing his skill level but if he is going to get cut anyways, we might as well just wait for him …..Besides with the lions showing interest in him, it gives him reassurance that we need him and the Lions are pretty much the only place he’s gonna start…So I say we sit and wait…Alot of people are throwing bullocks out the window though and I really think he should have one more chance, if he is healthy, he’s a top 8 safety in the league…Yes I know, if he’s healthy…I will say that the Bly signing was huge and for the people saying that its sad that he’s the best corner that we have now is rediculous, Chris Houston is going to pan out a Badass, mark my words!!

At this point though houston has not proven himself a number one. That’s why Atl traded him and got Daunta Robinson.

At this point

I would take a group of #2s because after last season I don’t know if I could consider any of our CB’s from last year #2s… Between Bly, Houston, Wade, King and Speivy I just hope we can find 3 suitable CBs to at least give us DECENT coverage.

I don't know much about him

We definitely need some help back there so maybe taking a chance on him could be of benefit.

Our backfield is as good as our QB pressure!!!!

Our CB’s got scorched last year because of our D-line and Linebacker corps, I don’t care what anybody says but foote sucked last year, peterson didn’t get the blitz schemes he has been successful with throughout his whole career and Sims couldn’t stay healthy if he was slapped in the face with a first aid kit…..Now our corners were bad last year but they weren’t that bad, if you can’t get pressure on the QB, I don’t care who you have back there, they’re gonna get scorched…Look at DeAngelo Hall, he was a pro bowl corner and a legit shutdown force in ATL when he had a badass linebacker corp and a pretty descent D-Line, he goes to Oakland and sucks, why cuz they’re front seven blew till they got seymour, (but he was already cut by the time they got Rich)…. This year is gonna be a complete turnaround, I bet any money if we had the same backfield as last year with the new FA’s and Suh, we would at least triple the pics that we had last year….Not saying that would even remotely fly, but all Im saying is our backfield is only as good our front seven no matter who we have back there…Now we have made some upgrades and I understand that Houston played with that same D that Hall had so he should have produced but I think he knows that he’s got a fire lit under his hiney and this is pretty much his last chance to prove that he can play…He has the speed and he is an above average tackler, so we’ll see what he gives us……GO LIONS!!!

by LionsAreMySpouse on Jul 6, 2010 11:37 AM EDT reply actions

Unless they sack the QB every play, our QB pressure is only as effective as the defensive backfield behind it

You still need talent in the defensive backfield. That’s why the Lions haven’t called me yet trying to sign me, lol. Ever since everybody let their emotions carry them away about Suh, there’s been this mindset among many that it doesn’t matter who our DB’s are. However, common sense says you need both…..good pass rushers AND good players in pass coverage.

So, I’ll ask again……who are our starting safeties?

Right Safety-Louis Delmas, no question, no doubt.
Left Safety-who???

If you don’t know, if you throw out a few maybes, if you’re waiting on a player who’s been out over a year to rehab, if you’re hanging your hopes on a guy who WAS a starter (how good?) in the past for some other team but showed nothing HERE last year, if there’s any question, any doubt, if you can’t unequivocally name ONE name and stand by it………..then there’s nobody.
Wishes and fishes, coulda/woulda/shouldas……these are not the building blocks of a safety corps.

One name……..who?

wow if this move

happens… the team would be solid in every spot in depth… a true sleeper team.. Bears watch out I got the Lions 3rd in the division, with unlimited potential, if the D line is better than advertised. If Stafford and the D line performs it is possible for above 7 wins…. right now I got 6-10 to 7-9

GO LIONS in 2010! the transformation starts now.. they have much to do.

Nice post

I think we could use a player like this. With all the news surrounding Mayhew it is obvious that he is shopping for upgrades but trying to get them at discount prices. I like the plan and based on the comments above I would welcome him to the team.

Patients my brothers

There is going to be better than Page out there after camps open up this year. With such a deep draft of talent on the D side of the ball this year, teams are going to be cutting people that you would never think would get cut just so that they can clear up cap space for the future, since the Cap WILL be back in a year or 2. And if Page can stay healthy he could be our 3rd S and a very good ST player for us, I think Ko Simpson is going to end up being our #2 next to Delmas if we don’t pick up anyone else before the season starts.

How many lumps you want Doc?

Thanks for picking one name and staying with it

Ko Simpson.
2009-Simpson had 34 tackles, 1 INT in 8 games. Only 3 career INT’s. Tackles by year 2006-2008 in Buffalo…….102, 1, 81. IMO, needs to show more, has gotten worse since rookie year. Has the size that Schwartz likes. Also has injury history.

I’ll be watching the waiver wire too for camp cuts. It may be our best hope.

Safety is a HUGE concern

I’m definitely with you on that, GRLion. I don’t have very much confidence in either Simpson or Bullocks. They are both injury prone, and are not that impressive when they are healthy. Our D will see a lot of passes this year, and I’m afraid that the weak safety will be exploited big time. I too will be watching the waiver wire closely for a starter. Hell, safety is a bigger concern than LB for me right now. I think I could live with the CB’s we have, but I’ll be watching the wire for help there as well.
